So little?? Care to elaborate? The way i read your post is like Vinny was a 50m striker.

I've written this in a post before:

What other new strikers in this league this season are blowing it away? Seriously name them..... Michy and Slimani who were a lot more, Musa, Zaza, Lucas Perez, Baston, even Bony / Benteke who have years of experience have been woeful. But yes, after just coming to this league, after just meeting all these new players, after getting used to a new manager, lets say he's clearly not up for it.

This guy has stepped up and banged in penalties when not really on form, that takes balls. Every time he plays he works hard, he has ridiculous strength and really great at bringing others into play and people question his positioning but you watch him, go back watch the games he has played and look how many decent runs he makes off the ball without our players playing him in, this guy is far better than he gets credit for and people need to give him some bloody time to settle.

We now have a different option finally, he has added to a squad depth, can come in for Kane at the end of games, can play up top with him, can play in cup games and i have confident in him. He's a second striker not Suarez, so lets calm down our expectations.

So over to you Ossie85....

Calm down Vinny, we are not going to sell you yet

I expect more from a 17m signing. He hasn't scored a single goal from open play FFS. Not one!!
You mention Michy, Slimani, all of them scored. Even Lucas Perez who barely played as he's the 3rd striker. He has 6 goals in 15 games. If Lucas Perez that has scored 6 goals already (no penalties) has been woeful according to you, how is it that Janssen with 3 penalties in 23 games exceeded expectations??

FFS, I only ask a goal and you talk like I'm referring to a 50m striker. So, according to you, a 17m striker signing is not expected to score a goal (even against a league 2 side). Only if he cost 50m.

What's on discussion here is not whether he's up for it, or if we should sell him. I merely gave my opinion on you ridiculous statement that he surpassed expectations. Even Pochettino acknowledges he's not doing well, but asks for patience.

Whether we should stick with him or not is debatable (I want us to keep him), but what's out of discussion is that he's been below expectations.
Has hasn't brought shit so far. All those things you claim he's brought are wishful thinking. They are what you want him to bring, but so far hasn't. What squad depth has he added, if he's not even second choice?? I'm not saying he won't bring something in the future. But so far he's been awful. It's ridiculous to say he's exceeded expectations. RIDICULOUS. Not even his mother thinks so

This. The very fact he gets hooked every time he starts and Poch didn't even select him to play against a League 2 team tells you everything you need to know about his time here so far.

There's also the issue of his generally not playing with the more creative players in our team. That wasn't the case earlier in the season, but of course that was when he was thrown into the deep end, so he needs to be given some leeway.

Can he make better runs and get himself into better position? Possibly. But I think it's a lot to do with the attacking support he has with him when he's playing right now.

Earlier on in the season I felt he was making better runs but players weren't playing him in. He got dispondent and started making those runs less.

That just escalated and started draining his confidence to a point where it was effecting his overall play, which at the start of the season was pretty good.

It's only recently where technically he has been left wanting. After the positive performance on Saturday he may get some welcomed minutes in Premier League games.

Something I keep thinking about but forgetting to say, should Janssen have taken/been given the number 18 shirt like Defoe and Kane, apologies if this has been mentioned before, I haven't read every page and I don't post much.

You're right that he's not lived up to expectations given the way he's been spoken about, his performances in Holland and the brief glimpses for the national team.

Saying that, your expectations for a £17m striker are based upon your personal valuation of what £17m should bring and I don't you get much for £17m for a striker in today's money. Batshuayi, Benteke, Slimani, Sane, Musa is where the market is at.

Why is he still so fat!???
FFS when he took his top off and that skin tight top was hugging his belly he looked like he had massive muffin tops! WTF!???? Isnt he getting any fitter in all Poch's training sessions? What does he do? Go home and secretly gorge on chocolates and sweets every night!?

He's just got one of those 'block' frames. Just the way he's built.

Constantly gives away stupidly needless free kicks, last night being the prime example. He's just not good enough and I don't think he ever will be.

In saying that, when the Manager point blank refuses to bring you on until the 85th minute in a game that we are desperate for a goal tells you all you need to know.

I'll argue the point with anybody, if we couldn't bring in a top drawer player including transfer fee and wages for the money that we spunked on Janssen and Sissoko then something is seriously wrong with our scouting network.

'Top draw' players cost top wages that we can't afford. And 'Top draw' players won't come in to sit on our bench to be back up to Kane.

You can piss and moan all you like about giving him time and it's only his 1st season. Vincent Janssen is not good enough it's that simple. Can't believe how fat he looked aswell coming off that bench last night. What a total waste of money we have spent on him and Sissoko

Yes yes yes. But think about it though, take the joint fee and salaries of Sissoko, Janssen and N'Koudou. If we look at playing time, those three could easily have been replaced by one other attacker. N'Koudou - we already had N'Jie in the squad, didn't we. He was as capable of not playing as N'Koudou has been. Of course your next argument will be "but we couldn't have spent it all on one player because of salary and other players wanting parity with the best paid player in the squad". That is partially true. However, looking at the joint amount of fees and wages spent on three players we didn't need, and looking at how close, yet how far we are from 1st place in PL and how disgraceful we fared in CL. It must leave even you wondering, if only a tiny bit?

This was all being said about Kane a couple of years ago too.

Poch obviously decided he needed the option of all 3 'triers' rather than one 'top draw' player on high wages + transfer fee. Even so, I don't actually believe our transfer budget is decided in a way that it's a straight choice between a player on 150k pw vs 3 players on 50k/60k pw. That's just not the way finances are distributed.

That's exactly the essence of what's wrong, isn't it.

Anyone got a screen grab of this overweight image of janssen? I thought he actually looked bulky muscular rather than fat

He'll never be a lean wire type , always a heskey build , but I don't think The get at all
