When people say had we played like that we'd have lost against etc etc - fair enough we're all entitled to our opinion but for me I'm prepared to give our team the benefit of the doubt and say we are capable of raising our game you know - see Pool away eg - and that was in the 'pre-Ramos' days - and I'm very confident that a Ramos team can raise their game too

I think you're right.
There's no need to get too upset over the performance, its difficult to play well against a team so utterly unadventurous.
Whilst we lost, the Blackburn game showed that we can play a decent passing game against quality opposition (as long as hudd doesn't get on the ball that is).

With King we averaged 1.8pts per game, which over a whole season is 68 pts which is the same as Liverpool and Arsenal. Without King we averaged 1.3 pts per game, which over the season would have been 49 pts and good enough for 12th place. It should also be noted King played in the majority of games against the top 4, so the big difference isn't because he didn't play in tougher games. If you take it a step further and look at the times both are top quality players were on the pitch (ie King and Berbs) we averaged 2pts per game, which was enough for 76pts, which is miles infront of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Its true that when King and Berbs played together we averaged 2 points per game over 16 games. Chimbonda played in all of these apart from the Reading away defeat. If you combine King Berbs and Chimb we achieved equivalent to 81 points a season over 15 games.
imo it is quite valid to extrapolate the results of the season from these 15 matches based on what we considered to be our 3 "best" players as it represents almost 40% of the season's fixtures and should be statistically significant.

The King stat is the most significant as it's based on 47 games out of 76. It isn't anything Spurs fans shouldn't already know form watching our games. It's obvious that Leds has a big effect on us. Even more obvious should be that good players are the most important ingredient to success. I think Frank Rijkard is a pretty average coach yet he's won the CL.

100% correct and there lies the problem with us,we simply don't have enough good players and until we do we cannot expect to have any kind of sustained success.
However I believe we are now in a better position to attract a few more good players simply because Ramos has built up a reputation in the last few years!

With regards to recruiting talent, Ramos has a job on his hands. One disadvantage english clubs have is the very strict work permit regulations. It is far easier for south american (or even african) players to get snapped up in Spain etc. Effectively the only south americans/african players we can sign are ones that are already established - which means they are usually already being looked at or assimilated to the big boys or playing in leagues where it far easier to get passports and work permits.

Although there is a 3 foriegner rule in spain it is a joke. ny players with european ancestry can be granted a passport from the relevant country - usually spain or Italy with the south americans. Or if the stay in spain for 3 years they can get a spanish passport regardless of ancestry. Players from the ACP(african, caribbean, pacific) that are signed up to the coyonou agreement (?) are also exempt from non EU quota.

At Sevilla Ramos had 1 argentinian, 4 Brazilians, 1 uruguayan, 1 Columbian, 2 Malians, 1 Russian, Serbian, 1 Ivorian Costian (?), 1 Portuguese, 2 Italians, 1 German, 1 Belgian, 1 dutch, 1 Danish.

Of Sevilla's current 28 man squad only 6 are natural spaniards.Compared to 17 of our 37 man squad.

I am not happy with the overall performance, but I am happy with the result. The results is the most important when we are in this situation. At times they managed to have some good passing football, but it is still very unconcistent. I liked to see the combination in midfield Zokora - Boateng. I think that is a combination we should try more.

Great call mate. We were awesome when those two were playing together. Eek
