Mauricio Pochettino has made some revealing statements about Toby Alderweireld, making it clear that the Belgian isn’t playing because he isn’t doing that well in training.

Not mentioned as unfit in team news. So flat out dropped!

Sad end imo. Great player but £€$¥ signs have turned his head clearly.

Have we really missed him?

Undefeated this year in the PL?

Too much being read into this situation, at forty two million, Sanchez was never going to be a bench warmer.

While i agree its a sad end to his career at spurs and i do hate seeing good honest players leaving the club, it is a choice that he's entitled to. Turning my feelings to bitterness and hatred would seem very childish and wrong in my opinion.

I suspect Toby's been honest from the start which is why we already replaced him a year ago with Sanchez. We havent missed a beat without him because he prepared us early and is leaving with dignity and maturity. He hasn't gone moaning to the press once.

Let's not forget he's from Belgium. How much can we claim to own here? I'll look out for him fondly if he moves abroad. Moving to a rival would irk me though.

I sorta agree with you @jenko and yes, he's gone (and hopefully DL won't deal with a rival), however the feelings of bitterness, hatred (?) etc. would be marginally less if he just gave 100% to the club until he leaves.

Good point but for me, when its a player i like and respect, i try to give the benefit of the doubt. He knows that if he gets injured he wont move so i can see that holding him back a bit. That's if its even true.

We also have to acknowledge that we probably only know half the story. Poch might just be biased against him now cos he wants to show favour to the other lads who dont deserve to lose their place in the team. Its very like Walker last year in that regard. Probably sensible from Poch as well.

What about the whole rumored changing of the goal posts by him?

It shows that the fans have definitely come a long way. When a player clearly is refusing to agree terms on a new contract and seems to be angling away for better terms (us fans) haven't got on Alders back. I supposes thats been helped by the player keeping a dignified profile ie not going a strike or talking crap to the media also I feel the progress of the club without Alders has smoothed things over.

Personally it would be great if we could come to terms with him though, but if not he should leave as soon as possible.

Yep. It's not personal. It's just business.

It aint gonna happen. I mean, it can't - the squad (of which Alders is one of) can't only be changed till the summer. Them's the rules.
