Mauricio Pochettino says he is confident key man Christian Eriksen will sign a new contract. The Danish playmaker has just 18 months left on his current deal – and is yet to commit his long-term future to Spurs.

We need this one sorted.

This guy make us tick, and we need him.

Just pay him and get it sorted I say.

Still the media try and get our players transferred out. I think they must be fuming, in the past their 'reports' have often had the desired effect, a player would end up leaving due to them not wanting to stay. For the past few years, its not happened, they keep trying though.

They do it to every club.

unfortunately the Toby precedent has been set. Eriksen will look at that and think he can play when he wants while he runs it down. It seems he's hoping for a bite from Spain or Bayern, or Juve, or the bucks from PSG, and he's prepared to wait out in hope...

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Agreed, if it's just down to money. If it's trophies that float his boat then there's not much we can do I guess.

Can't blame him. Realistically, he's going to have a way better chance of winning top trophies at those clubs. As a Spurs fan, I would love him to stay but looking at it objectively, I would hope that most players first and foremost want to win stuff.

I personally believe certain players are waiting to see some ambition from the club with purchases before committing to new deals.

I don't blame him either. But how to ensure we get a decent fee? Most believe if we don't generate cash from sales we won't be spending any...

True enough. If it's just the case that he is desperate to win trophies (fair enough) then we should be negotiating with the clubs that he himself is willing to talk to. 8f he wants his cake and eat it, i.e. to wait it out then it becomes more difficult as we're not in the luxurious position of dropping him in order to send out a message (or are we? - would you take a stand if you could call the shots?).

His performance on saturday was outstanding. We need him to commit his future to us.

Who could replace him?

When are people (including us) going to stop getting caught up in all these stories about us, and realise that every time we sort it out the right way and it ends up being great?

If anybody should be on pay parity with Harry Kane, it's Christian Eriksen. When he's on form he can be devastating, and we often look a bit clueless without him. Good news that Poch is confident though.

Like with Toby? I put this on another thread:

I think you have to assume it's 50:50 at best as to whether he signs again. If I were him, I would:
- wait till the summer
- see whether we're back in the CL
- see what investment we're prepared to make in the team
- see what interest there is, from which clubs
- take a view as to whether to sign a contract

At that point, he'd have a proper sense of the direction of the club, whether Poch was likely to stay, whether a move to Barca or Real was on the cards (where he could leave for less than otherwise), and he'd have us over a barrel - we'd have to pay him what he wanted in the knowledge he could leave for free the summer after (and get paid an obscene truck load of cash wherever he went - he's a £150m player they'd be getting for free).

We might not like it, but that's surely the rational thing to do in his situation.

We have to keep him, it would be an absolutely hammer blow to lose him

As far as I know Toby is the only saga that hasn't been resolved yet, the others have so not sure we can use that as an example in comparison to how we normally fare when renewing contracts.
