I hope Levy has learned a lesson in what to look for from a coach.

If he does leave then a replacement that can seamlessly take over should be identified and not just whoever is available and trending.

Also known as the compensation any club must pay, same as any other manager. Buy out clause makes it sound scary or imminent but should a club approach and the manager accept, this is just a fixed amount to save the negotiating.

I think that employing managers is more difficult than people give credit for.

It has been a perfect storm having good young players coming through and Pochettino proven to be the perfect man for them after a short time at Southampton doing exactly the same.

But sometimes it just doesn't work. Who would have predicted Mourinho failing so spectacularly at Chelsea this year.

I didn't feel Villas-Boas was a bad appointment at the time, it was nice to have someone a bit more discreet than Redknapp. However Redknapp was probably exactly what we needed at that time (2 points from 8 games!).

Ramos was a gamble but Sevilla were a great model for what we wanted to achieve. Jol was probably about as good as we could get for who we were back then.

I don't think we have had a bad lot. Probably Villas-Boas and Ramos the worst. But they both had decent pedigree at the time.

Is that because decent coaches are ten-a-penny and easy to find?

That's not what I was getting at.

Historically he's changed the type of coach he's appointed as regularly as the actual number.

We've managed to build a squad of players that play a certain way.
If we pochettino the easiest way to ensure a smooth transition is to make sure the replacement understands this and doesn't have grand ideas about wholesale changes.

It's worked wonders for Leicester.

Ten million is peanuts to a big club. Irrelevant. However, hopefully what we now have at Spurs will make him stay.

But still that's not easy. All the decent managers want to do things their own way.

Hmmmm?
Manage a trophy winning top consistent champions league club = challenging (egos, expectations, additional pressure, etc.)
Manage a club and make them regular trophy winners and become a consistent champions league club = legendary.
Here, Poch can choose his team whilst the club makes a superb stadium for them to perform in...
Elsewhere, under the shadow of SAF (ManU), plastic fans (Chels), seasonal manager sackers (RealM)...etc
If it were me, I'd rather make something big of what I've got.

phnarr, phnarr ... :joyful:
