Pochettino: pre-season is going to be 'tricky'

It’s more that no one is selling before the World Cup than teams not buying. A player at a World Cup will only ever increase in value than decrease (even if he has a stinker). That coupled with most national teams not allowing agents in training camps means very little transfer activity anywhere.

I don't get it.
A whole season can be written off for a player as they did not get the benefit of preseason training.
But surely most of the technical/tactical/team building exercises would be repeated throughout the season?
If a player is relatively unfit, then why can't this be addressed during the season?
Why was Rose and Jansen allowed to get so porky?

If the players are working flat out during the season, and they haven't the energy to do any more exercise, then that is pretty much their limit. Maybe it can be built up a little over a few years, but a 3 week boot camp session is not going to make a great deal of difference - it will just burn up the summer's excesses.

Sonny will definitely be back in a couple of weeks after a break, now that South Korea are out.
I am not so sure. He also has the Asian games in August, so between the time off after the WC and prep for the Asian Games, not sure how much time he will spend here.

We also haven't bought a single player yet, my guess is that we will do the usual late business. That will result in the new guys not having a preseason, which won't please Poch.
It's particularly annoying this summer as it's going to compound the problem we're going to have moving about from Wembley to the new ground and adapting to it along with players coming back late from the WC. I think we could well have an iffy start that will ultimately cost us later on in the season when it comes to a potential title challenge.

A few signings in the next couple of weeks would help us to put a competitive squad together for the opening month or so but I can't see it. At least we won't play a league game before deadline day but it will take time for these players to bed in. No Spurs pre-season won't help that.

other than acclimatising in a new stadium didn't Man C have more players at the WC than us?

fatigued possibly as they won't of had the 6 week rest that some have had, un-match fit they have just done their preseason in a much more competitive way by playing in the WC, with a most probably a 2 week break that will be followed up with a weeks training before KO.

after next season they are going to have a 2 week winter break, does that mean our players won't be match fit?

Ok maybe un match fit is not right.

Oh God, yes, I’d forgotten about that! Are we likely to see Sonny anytime before October...?

A chance for academy players to stand up and be counted
Personally, this is the most exciting reason to tune in to the preseason matches. Would love to see Kaz Sterling get a decent amount of minutes up front. Additionally, it will be interesting to see how well CCV, Foyth, and Onomah perform. It has the potential to be a very important preseason/year for CCV and Onomah as far as their futures at Spurs are concerned.

Poch would know all this already before he talked to Levy at the end of the season. I don't think people can ignore what he said, he said it for a reason and he is right too. I wouldn't like to see him pushed to a point where he might quit.
We should be working to give Poch what he wants. Trust in him and he he will deliver. Wasn't long ago I was worried about Madrid. They could fire the new guy by Christmas so let's keep our man happy.
