No news here. The PL is still the main focus of all the 20 teams in it, whether it be winning it, top 4 or remaining in it. The value of the domestic cups fell of a cliff when the money started rolling into the PL

No club imho whether they are Man City or Swansea really give any priority to the domestic cups till they reach last 8

We've got to the semi of the league cup and semi of the fa cup in the last couple of years. We will try and win it. Just will also use it as an opportunity to rotate the squad and give a youngster or two some game time.

Fucking transfer priorities are going to need to change with Barkley signing for Chelsea...

I think the stumbling block must have been wages - Barkley has moved to $150k per week at Chelsea... Levy (justifiably) wouldn't have made him our top earner - therefore we missed out.

The decision based on wages is disappointing from Barkley - he is going to have a shit show starting regularly (unless he replaces Moses) at Chelsea - and would have really developed at Spurs and would have provided much needed depth in attacking roles.

I remember Scott Parker moving to Chelsea - at the time I thought it was the wrong move and it took him moving to West Ham to realise his true potential (although his time at Chelsea would have contributed to his improvement no doubt). This decision from Barkley smells very similar.

Andre Gomes perhaps will be our next target for AM?

Domestic Cups may not be the focus for the club but the players want to win something. Toby has cited this as a concern. The club will be around for a very long time and has to be run sustainably, but players have a short career and want something on the mantelpiece to show for it. Fans likewise want something to brag about, It's been way too long since we picked up a trophy. CL is a massive earner but the game is still about glory for the fans and players.

I'm pretty sure that since the conception of the then European Cup, the league & Europe's premier competition has always been the priority for any club. Nevertheless, its always been of great to importance to win, at least one of the domestic cups because it then sets down a marker that we mean business; that we're there to put trophies in the cabinet & winners medals around necks.

I hope we put out a strong side with the aim of winning this competition; the league has gone & the Champions League is going to take a superhuman effort, so the FA cup is the more realistic trophy for us.

Every year as we see the increasing investment from richer clubs dwarf our own in the pursuit of achieving league & European success, the cup competitions take on greater significance because these are very viable for us to win.

Although I agree to an extent winning the FA cup regularly is not going to keep the likes of Toby. The top players want to pit their wits against the top teams.
Finishing in too 4 regularly and genuinely competing in PL and CL would mean more than an FA Cup to players.
If we want to compete at the top table then we need to invest appropriately which is a debate for another thread.
But winning a Domestic Cup woyod do more for the fans than it would ensure that we keep hold of our top talent.
