Why bother sacking Sherwood then?

Don't ask me mate, that was Levy's decision but I would hazard a guess that irrespective of his points per game stat, Levy just didn't see him as a long term option and still too raw to take on the job long term.

The fact that he hasn't picked up another job since he was sacked is interesting. He's certainly had chances.

I love the way people treat Bale like he's a bonus player who shouldn't really be counted[/B].

AVB was "dreary" because he was focusing on a stable defence which he got until injuries kicked in. Then was mostly likely pressured to play more attacking which then put pressure on the weakened defence.

But anyway. I've said this a million times and it won't change things. We all have are own opinions on that matter :)

I don't understand the highlighted bit. Could you explain? On the rest of the post, our 'stable' defence was built on relentless possession. When we lost possession to decent teams the defence was anything but stable. My original post was to make the point that AVB had quite a lot of time to implement his ideas but couldn't do it. I hope Poch is given longer to put the brakes on the revolving door.

With respect, Bueller isn't the one making comments about Sherwood and they certainly don't seem to be in passing as comments such as these have been made before by that poster (from memory). If this thread is solely about Poch then maybe you should direct your post to the person who made the original Sherwood/Poch comparison.
Hi 'avonspurs'. I guess I could sift back through the various comments made on this thread and track down the 'culprit' who started the Sherwood comparison post but seeing as 'Bueller' has responded to my comment in a friendly way....(as was mine incidentally); it might be good to drop it now...O.K. mate?

hi. TBH there's nothing to drop really - I wasn't setting up for an argument or something; I was just making the point that Bueller was responding to another poster

Calm down calm down lol.
Christ that headline is like poking a wasps nest with a stick.
Not sure what everyone's arguing about really.
We all agree we've made some bollox decisions to take us from top 4 to here yes??
We all agree we pissed the Bale money yes?
We all agree Poch should be given Summer window and see what happens next season yes?
And we all agree this season, like the last one and the one before that, is a f kin write off yes?
So whats the problem?
We all want us to be playing better than we are. Perhaps we should be but not by much.
This squad just doesnt have enough pace or quality to achieve anything no matter whos at the helm so resign any expectations, be patient, see what happens in the summer window and this time next year we can (Edit- if need be) crucify Poch, set fire to him, stick him in a Wicker man, whatevers your poison. Or indeed poison him.
Finishing 7th or 13th, I mean, who gives a shit?
To quote The Life of Brian, "Let us not be down hearted bruvvas. One total catastrophe like this, is just the beginning."

I suspect he's picking players who are carrying out his instructions or 'bought' into his style of play and leaving those who haven't out which kind of hamstrings him.

As i've said elsewhere, popular opinion here on SC was that we'd finish 6th (ish) yet when our results are those of a team that'll achieve that, it isn't good enough.

Class acts.

Right now i would take sixth but We are more likely to be 10th-12th thats no way good enough.

Let's give the man time - oh, he's already had, what, 4mths! That's more than enough. Why aren't we playing like Barcelona and topping the league? Southampton are higher than us - i knew we should have got Koeman instead of Poch. Actually West Ham are third: we should go for Big Sam. New tactics - pah! Sod that for an reason, blah, blah, blah.

And repeat ad infinitum.

Indeed, but for me its more like bitch, bitch, bitch.

I really believe that the key to our season is for one of our two senior strikers to start scoring regularly (I'm looking at you Mr Soldado) I feel that will have a huge settling effect on the team. Players like Erikssen and Lamela will be able to relax and concentrate on making chances for the strikers rather than feeling they have to be some sort of talismanic genius every game.

I think all of the elements for a strong run and a fairly successful season are there.

But there's no denying that Soldado's form is the elephant in the room

I like Mauricio and obviously wish him and us well.
But this is mostly nonsense especially after Palace.
Chelsea 2-0 up ceded us possession as is the Mourinho way.
'Progressive pressing was entirely absent on Saturday
and the first 20 minutes was straight out of the AVB possession manual.

If the players were tired
then that's down to lack of rotation by the manager.
If he thinks we are transformed then he's either delusional
or I want some of what he's having.
A lot of what you say makes sense but I am not sure about the rotation thing as one of my biggest complaints all season has been that Poch changes the team every game. At least in the last few games he has tried to play a settled defence which I think will be the basis of improvement

I think it's mainly an engine house midfield thing.
A settled defence is a necessary firm foundation, I agree.
A settled front two either when we play 422 or 4311 is useful
but we are not there yet
Fazio and Verts looks promising, but I would like to see Dier given a chance
as does Kane and Soldado
But you have to take into account the frequency of the games and the inexperience of the Academy boys.
Also Pochettino still has to find his best pairings.
I am happy to concede points if we are making progress.
Rotation is not the same as 'tinkering'
