Love him but you should never go backwards.

Dembele really drove that team. We need to wake up and see that it’s the players, not the Managers, which are the problem.

Think we've (finally) started that process with Conte being allowed to let Ndombele & GLC go.

I really do believe he (Conte) is the "winner" that this club has needed for far too long, and I even include the Poch years in that. Not detracting from what Poch did, memories that will stay with us until our last breath.

But Conte makes EVERYONE at the club change, including those above him. You don't back him, he's gone. You don't listen to him, he's gone. But he wins. So you do back him, you do listen to him. You win!

It's funny because, when we lose, SC is full of posts slamming Conte. Saying he should shut up & it's his job to get results from the squad at his disposal.

But Pochettino manages arguably the most talented group of players on the planet & when he loses, SC is full of "it's too many egos to play Pochs high intensity football".

Funny how it's not his job to alter his ways to get the best out of the squad at his disposal.

Poch's biggest downfall was his stubborn nature. He persisted relentlessly with formations and players that weren't working and a reluctance to use subs or change tactics in matches. He wouldn't accept a DoF and wanted complete control but then refused any alternatives when DeJong and DeLigt went to Barca and Juve. He then (by all accounts) distanced himself from the players and training and sulked for an extended period. The wheels came off quite spectacularly and maybe he accepts his part in that, but as I said, he's a stubborn fucker. He's not exactly pulled up trees at PSG either which should really be a gimme. I loved what he achieved here when he was hungry, but things changed.

I'm so confused about Poch. As much as I loved him, his style of football and what he achieved with us, his shortcomings as a manager have really been shown up during his last couple of years with us and his whole tenure at PSG. You can blame a lack of signings, big egos, wrong club etc for that but ultimately he has to accept his failure to adapt/find a suitable system to work with what he has for that. It's really hard to work out what he's trying to do when you watch PSG. He has enough big names to bail him out most of the time, but recently they haven't and it's been frequently awful. After Conte he'd probably be the best manager we could get but for me it wouldn't be the romantic return others feel it would be. I'd have a fair bit of trepidation.
I totally agree. It was a great ride for a while we had with him and like most Spurs fans I love the guy. However I think it would be a step in the wrong direction for him to come back to us and he hasn't exactly proved himself at PSG. I believe the last couple of seasons with us and at PSG have seen his limitations. He's great with young players but has a problem with the more senior ones.
I also think a move to United could end up being a short one and I would hate to see that happen to him.

I like what you're saying and I hope you're right.

What you have to remember about when Poch was with us is he had, by complete luck, arguably the best striker in Europe come through with him. Also we spent 5m on a prospect in Dele who was just amazing. That helped a lot. We did buy well with Lloris, the whole back 4 was amazing and obviously Eriksen with the Bale money but we did have a lot of luck along the way.
Be interesting to see what direction we go in now with the stadium up and running and Conte at the helm.
Time to put up or shut up.
I don't want to see Poch back. He had his time and it was great. Move on.
Lloris, Vertonghen, Dembele, Eriksen & Lamela (a very key player for Poch at times) were AVB signings. Rose, Walker, Kane & several useful squad players were also inherited.

Despite all the criticism Poch gets for his recruitment, he deserves credit for Son, Dele, Alderweireld, Wanyama & Dier. Off the top of my head, I think they cost about £55-60m combined, which was ridiculously good value. Dier (particularly given his recent form and importance under Conte) is probably the most underrated signing of Poch's era and cost pennies in the grand scheme of things.

I love Poch but we would be mad to want Conte out for him.

He got the sack because he got backed heavily and the team got worst. N'Dombele and Lo Celso spring to mind who were massive flops.

Every player in our team is better than before and Conte can really pick a player that can cope in the prem as we are now seeing with Bentancour and Deki.

People talk about Poch’s shortcomings before we’ve even got close to performances like the ones under him.

I’m not blind to his flaws but people seem to have lost a bit of perspective.
I know what you mean, however, When the new man at the helm has the same, or near same quality that pochettino had, that will be more to the point Imo. Signs are, that conte isn't too far off in a quicker time than poch with a far weaker team. (Just my take). When, or should I say, IF conte is given the quality poch had, I think he'll be more successful.

Loved MP and what he brought but I think Conte is a different gravy.
