What's the point in being in a competition if you don't try to win it?! Just because it's unlikely, it doesn't mean that you can't try. Sometimes I think it's a mental thing. If you don't think you can win something, it's highly unlikely you ever will. You need the belief.

I think he's taken Bill Nicks quote about setting high targets &glory in failure a bit far. To finish top four in the next 3 seasons would be miraculous. It's not being negative. Its being realistic.
Top 4 this season, win CL next season. Easy, easy, easy.

And I want to be an astronaut when I grow up.

I'm not sure what people want him to say?!
Would you rather him say that we are happy with mid-table mediocrity? When Martinez said he would get Everton into the champions league most people scoffed and look at how he almost got them there in his first season. I actually think he has made a very sensible statement - first objective is to get the team playing well. Get the playing style right and the results will follow. And as a supporter I would much rather we played well and was entertained that watch the utter shit I have done for the past two seasons.

One game at a time. It's one of the oldest cliches in football.

But each game you set out to win, so therefore in general, you aim to win.

So, if you aim to win, you aim to win and not put limitations on it.

Therefore, Poch wants us to win and there's nothing wrong with him saying so in my eyes. A winning mentality is a great thing to have.

"Our target at the moment is to provide a team capable of creating our philosophy on the pitch."
"My challenge is to win the Premier League... eventually. This is our goal, to win the title one day."
He has a five year contract so of course he needs to aim to win the title, the initial target is very modest

Belief...... and an oil billionaire helps too.

This is why he's avoided talking directly to the press for so long.

If you watch the interview with him and brad and you'll see the context it was delivered in and how he said it.

It wasn't front and centre nor a proclamation.

Tbh we are just a stepping stone for him, we will help him increase his stock then he will be off and in that time I doubt we will win the league

This is the kind of ambition I want our head-coach to have: a ferocious devotion to succeed, and not only that, but to succeed with a flair and bravery that is indicative of the Spurs-lore my father used to regale me with growing up.

There has to be the desire and belief to want to succeed otherwise what's the point of even trying. If you aren't aiming for the top-spot in every endeavour, then just quit and let someone who has that hunger go and try.

I think its important to be realistic as well, which is why he says 'eventually', but to be the best has to be the ultimate goal of the staff and the fans. As the once great Ric Flair once said: "If you want to be the be the man, you have to beat the man!"

Liverpool came within two games of winning the league, who would have said that at the beginning of last season? Suarez aside, I refuse to believe they had a better squad then us man for man, or even equal to ours to be honest. They were just coached well and gained belief that it was possible as the end of the season drew closer.

Don't get me wrong, I fully expect us to finish outside the top four this season, if we did get in there it'd be a near miracle!! But who knows what's possible with the twists and turns of a Premier League season?

Agree their squad is poor.
World class striker aside plus the fact they weren't in Europa cup and treating it seriously at the detriment to their league position.
You cant put massive things like that aside.
Anyone who thinks Liverpool would still have finished 2nd without Suarez and playing every Thursday and Sunday with that squad is living
in la la land.
They have pace. We take an hour to get up the pitch so the opp have 11 behind the ball by the time we get there. Im hoping that, plus this tapping it about at the back until we fuck it up, and playing such a high line any ball knocked into our half results in a goal are things that go this season.
