Pochettino: The Real Madrid clause doesn't exist, he won't replace Zidane

The reporting by newspapers such as The Guardian and The Independent illustrates the problem with using secondary sources. They quote Spanish newspapers, which have their own agendas. Poch himself was emphatic when asked directly at his book launch.

I’d put a grand on him not leaving if I could but I bet the bookies won’t allow that bet.

Just for clarification, there is no release clause in my professional contract, I'd obviously listen if Real ever contacted me, and I cannot rule out a move to Madrid in the future (probably just a city break).

"I am so happy in Tottenham and I'm so proud that Tottenham showed the commitment and trust in the way that Daniel Levy (Spurs chairman) showed me 10 days ago, and of course, we have a lot of dreams, we have a lot of objectives."

Asked if it would be too difficult to turn down 13-times European champions Real Madrid, Pochettino said: "For you, it's impossible? You think yeah - but you are not me."

The kind of response we had our ears peeled for.

:)

No, it’s same kind of non-answer that in demand football people give when they don’t want to answer a journo-question. It’s just a juiced up version of “I’m very happy at Spurs”.

Joachim Löw gave us the alternative version: there is no chance I will take this job. Not the same kind of answer at all.

Pochettino would have to be deluded to manage RM at this juncture. Everything about his approach is pro-team and anti-ego. The opposite of the main players at RM. And he’d be following an unprecedentedly successful manager there. It would a no-win situation that could derail his career for years.

But the appeal of the money and the trophies remains. He hasn’t ruled it out. Not at all.

He wants to manage there someday so isn't ruling it out. Just don't think now is the time.

May be wrong we'll see.

Very clever our manager. Different slant to the message he gave Spanish media vs English press. Basically making it clear to the Spanish that he won't force anything but if RM want him bad enough they'll have to deal with DL. Good luck to them with that one!!

Please God he's not going. But let's face facts Madrid have the cash and rich clubs screw over poorer clubs constantly. I remember hoping Bale and Modric wouldn't leave us. I hope this time it's different but I've said that before. I'll be happier when they appoint someone else. Of course that guy might be out by Christmas and this can all start again. I'm told it sells papers...
