Of course he is right that we needed the points, but I cant say we deserved them all, I think Villa earned at least a draw, and the way we defended, we were lucky to get anything from the game.

Agreed. Try Fazio instead of Kaboul against Stoke and Kane in for ade. Also I don't want to see a single starter on Sunday play Thursday night

I think you will find he has already done that with all outfield players to great success.

To a point I agree.
We should not be starting players on Thursday who he expects to start on Sunday but who should he pick for this Thursday?
IMHO Adebayour and Kaboul should both be in the side and I'm not sure whether Capoue and Rose shouldn't join them too.

If Walker is anywhere near fit he could play Naughton, Kaboul, Dier and Rose across the back four on Thursday.

That would leave (if fit) Walker, Fazio, Verts and Davies to start Sunday?

Davies hasn't done nearly enough to take roses place

I think you will find he has already done that with all outfield players to great success.
Team against europa pub-team 23rd oct:
  • 01 Lloris
  • 15 Dier
  • 21 Fazio
  • 05 Vertonghen
  • 33 Davies
  • 29 Capoue
  • 19 Dembélé
  • 17 Townsend (Lennon - 83' )
  • 18 Kane
  • 11 Lamela (Eriksen - 76' )
  • 10 Adebayor (Chadli - 77' )
Newcastle 26th
    • 01 Lloris
    • 15 Dier
    • 04 Kaboul
    • 05 Vertonghen
    • 03 Rose Booked
    • 29 Capoue Booked (Kane - 67' )
    • 38 Mason
    • 11 Lamela (Lennon - 78' )
    • 23 Eriksen
    • 22 Chadli
    • 10 Adebayor (Soldado - 83' )
I see 10 players involved in both games.
OK, 3 only had 15mins, but half of fatigue is mental - they still had to psych them selves up for the europa game.

OK, AVB would have played the same 11, but we still are misusing our resources imo.
And are paying a price.

team against tripollis 6/11:
  • 13 Vorm
  • 15 Dier
  • 21 Fazio Dismissed
  • 05 Vertonghen
  • 33 Davies
  • 25 Stambouli
  • 19 Dembélé
  • 17 Townsend
  • 11 Lamela (Soldado - 45' )
  • 23 Eriksen (Mason - 63' Booked )
  • 18 Kane (Paulinho - 77' )
team against stoke 9/11:

  • 01 Lloris
  • 16 Naughton Dismissed
  • 04 Kaboul Booked
  • 21 Fazio
  • 03 Rose
  • 29 Capoue Booked (Adebayor - 65' )
  • 38 Mason Booked
  • 17 Townsend (Lamela - 45' )
  • 23 Eriksen (Dembélé - 45' )
  • 22 Chadli
  • 18 Kane
Fazio, Dembele, Townsend, Lamela, Eriksen, Mason and Kane played in both. And that is still too many imo.
I agree as long as they avoid injuries that it's not a physical issue, but these players seem barely capable of getting motivated for 1 game a week. They get mentally tired.
And the same goes for MP - he is used to preparing for each game for an entire week.
He has not adapted to a team with more fixtures and higher aspirations and perhaps never will.

He should play a genuine B team for the europa league stage and he should delegate the management/coaching job for these games - perhaps to Ledley and Freund or even get Ramsey back. Then concentrate on the first team. But he may have left this too late...
