Alfie Devine has joined League One side Port Vale on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

The 19-year-old midfielder has featured regularly for our Under-21s in recent seasons - he scored twice in 17 Premier League 2 appearances last term while also netting three goals in four Under-19 UEFA Youth League games - and has made two senior competitive appearances for us to date, scoring once.

Port Vale are currently 9th in League One with a goal difference of -5

The boy has shown a lot of promise and I would liked to have seen him given a few games in our 1st team. Other clubs are not afraid of giving youth a chance in the first team we very rarely do. I also would like him to have gone to at least a championship side.

I think given his style, it's more important for him to learn to adapt to the physicality of the game rather than a higher league where it would suit his play better. I think this is a good move for him.

Choice was made as it is believed it will toughen him up. And PV perfect club for him
Someone just mentioned in the youth thread (@Wheeler Dealer ) that he's from up that way so it'll help him settle if he's got family near.
The most important thing at this stage is that he gets plenty of playing time against men, so if that's at Port Vale, it'll do for me.

He's originally from Warrington, which is a fair old distance from Stoke.
