Jamie O'Hara has revealed he is ready to quit Tottenham in a bid to further his career.

O'Hara is currently on loan at Portsmouth and has been in top from for Avram Grant's side after returning to Fratton Park in January.

The 23-year-old says Spurs will always attract big-name signings and believes he has little chance of being able of breaking into Harry Redknapp's first team.

O'Hara has made just 51 appearances in four-and-a-half seasons for Spurs - scoring three goals - with loan spells at Chesterfield, Millwall and Portsmouth (twice) during that time.

'I went back to Tottenham in January and I was not really involved so I may have to move on,' he said.

'Tottenham are a massive club and are always going to be involved in big signings.

'Sometimes as a younger English player you have to move on to further your career. We will see what happens at the end of the season.'

Well how many games was he actually back with us for? I remember him being on the bench. I know he isnt happy but depending on length of his contract I would like him to stay a bit longer.

O'Hara is the kind of player that we really need to keep at the club, unfortunately though he hit the nail on the head when he said about young English players struggling to break through.

Sad state of affairs for all young English talent really as most clubs want/prefer to look overseas at cheaper/more skillful talent.

Chances are he will move on, but if he manages to progress at Pompey, and come out more confident, he could be very useful to us as a versitile and very reliable squad player. He certainly has the right attitude, and I think Arry rates him quite highly.

    That's Bullshizzlemanizzle!
Sometimes as a young english player blah blah blah...as a young english player you get more game time at Spurs.

Let him go, he doesn't wanna stay and fight for his place and he'll only ever be a squad player at Spurs, at best he might play in Europa league for a season with a mid table club.

    better than hudd and jj.

'Younger English players' like Robinson, King, Dawson, Huddlestone, Lennon, Defoe, Jenas, Carrick all did ok.
  7. Michey
Keep him and send Jenas to where ever he's wanted. It's going to be tough but it's worth a try!
  8. Legacy
What, like Dawson, King, Huddlestone and Lennon?

If they're good enough, they'll be given their chance. Be honest, would O'Hara get into our first team? No. At the very most, he could be considered a sub in place of Jenas, who is also English.

It's nothing to do with being young and English, it's about them being not good enough to get into the first team.
  9. Krafty
It would be difficult for him to establish himself as first choice in the midfield. He would be far more useful than Jenas. He's the type of player that Utd, Chelsea and the scum have, good back up players that come in and do a job. Your John O'Sheas of the world

Different players improve in different ways. Players like Huddlestone, Carrick, Lennon and others all had special qualities that are hard to attract to Spurs (Huddlestone passinf, Carrick reading the game and Lennons pace and ability to take on his man all game). This meant we could accomodate them into our team and in time their all round game improved enough to become first team players.

JOH is a good player but nothing really stands out about him and he'll find it difficult to get into our side. He's going to have to dig deep and go to a team and find the right level for where he is right now, in the future he might improve enough for a top half Premiership club.

As opposed to ... us .. who are ??
  12. mawspurs
Yes it is irritating that they seem to be able to hold on to this 'good backup' type of player yet ours all want to move on for first team footie.

How is sitting on the bench at one club different from sitting on the bench of another?

Ideally if Jenas goes I'd like him to stay in our squad but if not then I see no reason why he can't continue with loan deals until he has matured a bit and proved he is worth a place in our starting eleven.
  13. Blockbuster
ha ha true! But I meant as in Career Highlights his new club might one day play Europa football for a season.
  14. northampton_yid
He is bar far the best player at Pompey and that was evident v southampton at the weekend. I think we will make a mistake by selling him. He is far more positive and gritty than Jenas and should be ahead in the pecking order for me. I've actually been surprised how good a pass and shot he has.
  15. Raxscallion
I've said it enough times before, but it's still true: I'd like JO'H to be Sarge's understudy.
  16. CliffJones
I agree and possibly play alongside each other in away games versus the likes of Stoke, Bolton, Blackburn and Wolves. He'll never play for England but his attitude and approach to the game are rare commodities in the current Spurs team. He should get as many games as JJ for us. He is not without a little guile around the box either.
  17. Pinto
The problem is O'hara doesn't want to sit on the bench and play 3-5 times a year when Wilson is suspended.

I have said before I would love O'hara to stay and be our great midfield sub to fill in at 3 spots, central midfield and left winger if need be but if he wants to play every week, Spurs is not the team for him.

This is where our wage structure hurts us the most as compared to the big 4. They can afford to pay good money to have those good bench players while we have to rely on kids if we have a star player hurt. (granted we do have stars on the bench like Bentley and Jenas and Pav but all of those guys at one point thought I need to leave to get matches and more than likely 2-3 of those guys will not be with Spurs next season)
  18. dontcallme
But when somebody has made it as blatantly clear as JOH has that he isn't interested in being an understudy it doesn't really matter does it?
  19. 18Klinsmann
I suppose picking up a few winner's medals every season might make United's bench the more attractive one:wink:
