King closing in on training return

Tottenham skipper Ledley King has targeted a return to full training in around two weeks following knee surgery in the summer.

he 27-year-old England defender was initially earmarked for a return at the start of the season but has so far been on the sidelines, with Spurs struggling to just one victory in the Premier League in his absence.
Boss Martin Jol has spoken previously about how important King is to his defence and he is hoping to have him back training with the squad in a fortnight.
"He's still making progress and hopefully he will be back with the group in two weeks' time, maybe longer," said the Dutchman.
"I'm used to it because he was out of the team injured last year for seven months, so hopefully when he returns now he will be back for a lot of games."
If all goes smoothly with his return to full training, King could be in action towards the end of November.
"He's training in a smaller group and that is good," Jol added. "Hopefully in two weeks he will join us. He's naturally fit so hopefully it would take another two or three weeks (from then)."
King suffered feet problems last season but Spurs were unbeaten with him in the side for the rest of the season when he returned in April.
A foot problem also kept him out of the 2006 World Cup finals and adding to his injury list has been knee surgery in consecutive summers.
It meant Spurs have relied on Michael Dawson on centre-back, with Younes Kaboul establishing himself in the first team after arriving from Auxerre in the summer.
Young French centre-back Dorian Dervite was back in training this week following a long lay-off with a serious knee injury.
"He has started training again with the group this week so hopefully he'll be fine soon," Jol added.

well, we've heard all this before re Ledley, here's hoping he's fit to play by november and sees out the season, it will be a fantastic boost, but pointless to rely on.

I'll believe it when I see it.

We've seen this many times before. Don't get your hopes up.

Well im just pleased that someone has said something about this whole farce-if you listened to Jol then you would be upset that he wasnt in the starting XI on Monday night, his pencilled in return date-all we had in relation to that was one comment that it might be too soon then-the amount that we have been left in the dark about his situation (and that of most injured players at the club eg Dawson at the start of this season) is nothing short of pathetic.

Getting King back (hopefully) fully fit will be a huge boost for the club. It's about time we had some good news this season.

I'm optimistic and will take the news as truth until it's officially stated otherwise.

he add's leadership to the back line and all over the pitch, something that could end up being helpfull! do agree last time he came abck we ddint really improve  but it is just a moral bosot for the fans and hopefully the club to see him coming back

Since at least 50% of SC appears to disbelieve on principle any statement the club puts out regarding King or anything else, would there have been any point in a weekly bulletin?

Who said anything about a weekly update? We dont even really know what the injury is ffs!

Im more upset with the basic lack of info that is ever given to the fans by the club-im a big follower of barcelona and visit the club website daily and get to read about what has happened in training, who was training on what, what coaches were involved etc, even reading about which players stayed on a bit later after training to work with the sub goalkeeper. I dont know about anyone else, but i would be quite interested in hearing all that stuff about spurs, and especially about injuries, another thing that barca report excellently with frequent updates from the coach and doctors.

The lack of exposure that we get into our club is pathetic as ive mentioned and the king situation really sums it up perfectly.

The club have said whenever there has been a change in his condition and announced he wouldn't be rushed or pushed unless he was ready. And now he's almost ready they've informed us. What do you want? Live Ledley cam? A breath by breath update of his physical condition? A heartbeat monitor? No pleasing some people.

I'm very surprised at Ledley being labeled our new sicknote. Perhaps it's just because his absence is missed so much that people think he is injury prone. His career stats for us are:

Year Played Goals
98-99 1 0
99-00 3 0
00-01 18 2
01-02 32 1
02-03 25 0
03-04 29 2
04-05 38 3
05-06 26 3
06-07 21 0
07-08 0 0

So ok, he has been struggling with his knee recently but I would hope that once he overcomes that problem he can get back to being (relatively) regular

EDIT: And was it the 04-05 season that we were the tightest we have been in years? If so then the number of games he was involved with then speaks volumes and shows his importance to us as a defensive unit
