Like I said before, this is trading, as you are not placing a bet an let it run until the end. You always monitor the game, and have an exit or profit point planned. That is why this is trading.

So your exit plan on Arsenal v Villa was -91%, interesting?

See from the outside looking in it looks like a very basic we get the first goal get the hell out of it and if its going against us just hang in there and pray for the best.

Just because you don't let a game run to the final whistle it's trading!?

And a trading plan with no recognition of value or BR management, also very interesting.

No wonder bookies love punters.

Yes, in this case where it was -91% they decided to take the loss, instead of letting it run and lose 100%. That game went wrong, and it is fine, as you are only using 5% of your total bankroll. No problem at all.
It is all covered with bankroll management., and they stick to the system. That is all you need. They aøways place trades based on value, of course. You can have it in punter mode as well, but that is of course a lot more risky.

Oh dear, I don't mean to be rude SK as you seem like a good guy but you really have no idea what you're doing.

Do you have any understanding of value and how its just plain ridiculous to make all bets the same size regardless of value or odds! This system of a straight 5% has zero bankroll protection or management!

If they always trade based on value why do they always place the same bet size regardless of the value they find? I can tell you why quite easily, because they haven't got a clue what they are doing!

The arsenal one went wrong because they didn't win and you didn't sell your bet when they scored first. What you have to understand is you will have weeks where all of the picks go wrong, thats when the shit will hit he fan with this so called system.

As long as they make long term profits, I don't really care how they are doing it, to be honest. I stick to simple rules, and that will cover your bankroll.

Guaranteed to go bust at some point as they are just gamblers.

This is the result of the month until today:
Trading August 2013

119 TIPS

71 GREENS

48 REDS

1 VOIDS

+ 495 % Profit

As long as they have profits like this, you have much higher than the bank interest rate.

Just reviving this to have a slight gloat and ask some advice. I played a couple of Snap Poker (same as Rush and Zoom) tournaments on 888 last night and this morning and finished 5th out of 391 and 18th out of 303. They were only $1 buy ins and my winnings were $41 but that's a good ROI so I'm not complaining.

As you have the option to fold and play another hand straight away, do you think the best strategy is to see as many hands as possible while the blinds are low and then slow down as you get near the bubble? Or would it be best to keep trying to get a premium hand even though you risk blinding out faster? I guess the answer will depend on stack size so lets assume we have about 15bb.

15bb is a shove stack so you need to being looking for spots to get your stack in depending on position and oppos stack size.

Or you can 2x it with qq, kk, aa, ak to induce action.

I don't normally start shoving untill I get down to 10bb unless I have those hands you mentioned. I don't know if that's a weakness in my game but I've had plenty of comebacks from that kind of stack size so I tend to wait for a better spot rather than shoving things like A5-AT etc out of position. I see a lot of these shoves from players in this kind of tournament and they can lose so easily to hands like KT or low pairs.

I wrote that post in February and since then have had some decent results and I'm in profit but I'm not any closer to getting a win unfortunately. I've started trying to pick on certain players who seem hyper aggresive and get them to overcommit to the pot, only problem is you sometimes get put at a new table what seems like every other hand in these kinds of tourneys so reads can go out the window.

10bb under

Push fold game.

10-15bb

Again push fold and re-steal stack.

15-25bb

Open with hands you want to get it in with.

25-30bb

You have more room for opening with this stack. Tighten up your range a little as villians will be looking to re-steal on you.

30bb +

Open wider range.

This not set in stone as every hand and situation is different but this is a pretty decide guide for stack sizes.

Cheers for that, I think I'm generally playing that way but maybe I need to take more risks. I'm always torn between making a small profit with a low cash finish or risking that finish by going for a higher place. It's not that I'm playing scared but it's hard to find the right balance on a regular basis.

Pretty much what I play online and it's served me well. In home games and tourneys it's different as you get to know how people play and therefore I often flat with AA KK QQ AK AQ against a certain friend if he's in a blind/ the dealer as I know he's going to pop it and I can then either flat for a flop or repop it

Oh man do I ever need to vent! I've had the most unbelievable evening.

This all happened on William Hill speed poker over the course of about 2 hours.

Had QQ, flop comes AQQ. Got it all in against AK. Turn and river both Aces.
Had 6,8 diamonds. Flop comes 7,9,10 diamonds. Again, all in on flop against KK- one a diamond. Along comes J and Q diamonds.
Had KK v 88.K and 8 on flop, 8 on turn.
Had Qs over Js on flop, beaten by straight flush.
Had 9s over 10s beaten by 10s over 8s on the river.
Must have had 2 dozen hands beaten by runner runner suited for a flush.
Also must have had at least as many pairs beaten by rivered trips.
Aces cracked each time they were called.
And the final insult, all in pre flop kings v kings, 2 spades on the flop, 2 more turn and river. I didn't have the K of spades.

Roll's taken an absolute hammering, and I'm trying to explain to the wife that I actually played well, but all she can see is that if I dropped (a fucking load of) money then obviously I didn't. Grrrrrrr.

Feeling your pain pffft.

I gave up online poker a while ago as I was convinced it was fixed. The reason I thought this was because I'd built my roll up to over $7000 over the course of a year. Admittedly I'd put in close to a thousand, but I had sussed it and was making money whether I played cash, S&G or tournament.
I then took 5 grand out for a holiday. After that I went on a 6 month run of bad beats where the amount of runner runner beats was enormous. The 2 grand I had left was eaten up.

What eventually made me give up though, was a bad beat in a final tourney for a seat at the WSOP. I started in a 20+4 tourney, won it, placed 2nd in the next and won the third. The final tourney had top 2 winning seats in Vegas. I made the final table and was 2nd in chips with 7 remaining. I woke up with KK on the button with the chip leader at BB. The blinds were quite high and I didn't want to tangle with him, so I put half my stack in, about 7 times BB, to push him out.

He went all in so I was obliged to call. He had A6 off!

He also hit his 3 outer on the turn.

Not the worst bad beat in the World, but it felt like it, particularly as he had about 3x my stack and didn't need to gamble like that.

I only play live now, but I've been bent over often enough there too, AA beaten by 88, Aces full beaten by quads, but the worst was a 3 way hand where I had AK of clubs. I raised under the gum, got reraised at the cut off and I called along with the BB. I flopped Broadway with 10 J of clubs and Q of hearts. BB checked, I checked, cut off bets and BB raises. I reraised, cut off folds and BB goes all in which I call. He has 8 9 of hearts, so he can only win with runner runner heart, as I'm sitting on the nuts with a nut flush draw and a Royal flush gut draw.

Guess what he got.

I had an $850 stack at the time, he had me covered. An $1800+ pot up in smoke when I'm better than a 95% favourite.

Monster bad beat.
