ToupeConte going down fighting:

"In this situation the fault is the coach - maybe I made a bad decision today with the starting XI. When you start in this way and play in this way you have doubt about the game. During the game it is difficult to change something, afterwards you can understand it and make bad decision."

To be fair, he’s got that right. He made a bad decision and had to live with the results.

I wonder when the next time he’ll name Baby in the team?

A lot for sure, but clubs don't usually pay up the whole contract, as I understand it.
I always assumed there was an agreed upon amount outlined in the contract i.e. something like if the managers is sacked the club must continue to pay 60% of his salary for the remainder of the contract period or something along those lines. Ultimately I suppose it's different from contract to contract.

That's my assumption anyway, I've no idea though to be honest

Depends on the terms. He’d have been paid handsomely and include bonus payments but caveats around poor results and minimum expectations would also be included to protect Chelsea. Typically they’ll pay off his contract or continue to pay a portion of it until he finds employment elsewhere.

Glad someone else noticed this, because it drove me insane at the time:

Speaking in his interview to BBC Sport on Sunday, Roy Hodgson bemoaned the focus on controversy at the expense of football.

“I suppose I hark back to the days when maybe people watched football matches,” Hodgson said. “They talked about what happened over 95 minutes and not what happened within 40 seconds of the 95 minutes because that’s all my interviews ever seem to be.

“Was it a penalty? Was it not a penalty? Should the referee give a free kick? Was it handball? And I would sometimes like to get back to discussing how well we did in the second half, how well Newcastle did in the first half.”

Cue the camera switching back to the Match of the Day 2 studio for a panel of pundits (none of whom were qualified officials) to immediately debate the validity of a refereeing decision. Textbook.

Agree with every word Hodgson says, and the article above. The incessant focus on referees, refereeing decisions and "controversy" is absolutely the #1 thing I most loathe about modern football.

Referees make no more mistakes than players or coaches, and yet these tedious fucking debates about penalties and offsides and handballs go on for weeks. Tedious, damaging and fundamentally wrong-headed.

I have just found out the match tomorrow is not on Sky Sports. Poxy BT have it and I don't have it.

Gonna have to watch it on the radio.

The West Ham v Watford is the live 3pm k.o. In Ireland.
