I remember hearing something about bt not going in for next deal so sky may not have to fork out as much. Is this the top 6 a holes nipping up that they may have players on big long term contracts and looking for a way of getting around what may be on the horizon?
Whatever its pure greed, wrong, and frankly disgusting.

This is for the foreign tv rights though which will be huge again as the current China deal is expected to grow exponentially. Not the domestic rights.

Spurs voting for this...

"These new movements, of course, grew out of the old ones and tended to keep their names and pay lip-service to their ideology. But the purpose of all of them was to arrest progress and freeze history at a chosen moment. The familiar pendulum swing was to happen once more, and then stop. As usual, the High were to be turned out by the Middle, who would then become the High; but this time, by conscious strategy, the High would be able to maintain their position permanently."

Let's face it. This is just the start, but it's clear how things are going. If some form of European Super League ever happens, our owners will be salivating at the front door begging to be let in.

If that happens then in my opinion it's time for us to start up FC Tottenham in the Essex Senior League and go from there. Fuck that shit.

Not for me. Why would they want to copy what is wrong with la liga?
Slowly moving towards a european superleague.

I'm not sure how realistic the super league is now as when last season's revenues are published it is highly likely that all 19 of our clubs will be in the top 30 richest teams.
West Ham will have earned more than Milan, Schalke and Atletico Madrid.
Everton, Leicester, Newcastle, and Southampton will be vying for 15th place with Roma and Milan.

Financially, the Premiership has become the European super league.

I can see their point. We were televised 25 times, hull 10 times but we got the same money. That said i like to believe the sole reason the PL has such valuable TV rights is due to how competitive the league is. This plan would remove that competition and therefore devalue the package so it's ultimately a waste of time.

I do think a European super league will happen at some point though. Especially as the standing of some of the original European superpowers starts to erode.

Think you've got your wires crossed a little.
The deal they are talking about is the tv rights sold abroad which are split equally. Nearly every game is shown in one form or another.
The uk rights (where we were shown 25 times) we did get more money than hull for a) you get a bonus for being televised and b) we finished higher in the league.

I very much agree with the first part but not so sure about the second. The Premier league and it's top clubs push further and further in front of the pack with every new TV deal they sign. Should the big clubs all group together it gives a far more equal footing to the big German and Italian clubs, and that is far from in the best interests of the Premier league clubs. It also instantly devalues all domestic leagues and no countries FA will be willing to sanction that.

I wonder if the big clubs thinking about a possible european league would want the tv money distributed equally or should the bigger clubs get the biggest slice?
All that would happen is that you get the la liga situation of two or three clubs the only one's being able to challenge and everyone else just being filler. End of football.

and if I were advising the "remaining clubs" I'd make clear that it is a one way decision to leave. If you want to come back you start in non-league. Additionally, pretty good chance you could make players ineligible for international duty

Most concerning thing for me is that we as supporters, fans, consumers have no say in the matter.

There is an argument that some clubs spend more on promotion etc in the overseas market therefore should clubs who do nothing benefit from this.

I think the point is that the rights for the super league would be even bigger than the rights for the PL because there's a bigger audience globally for the likes of Juve, Bayern etc. than for West Ham and Southampton.

I may be in the minority here, but I am really disappointed that our club is party to this. Just hope it doesn't go through. I don't want us to be a "pull up the drawbridge and screw you" outfit.

I can understand to a certain extent. They are not asking for a madrid barca type deal. Just that foreign tv rights are split the same as uk tv deal is. Majority equally shared and then you get more the higher you finish in the league. Would mean that midtable clubs still have something to play for come the end of the season.

If they dropped the amount you get for being shown on tv i think it would be fairer or increased the minimum games you can be shown. Utd got shown 28 times last season while hull were only shown 8 i think.
