Yes, we lost 4-1 today. It was a thrashing if you look at the score line.

We have the knee-jerkers on here proclaiming Soldado is shit, Lamela is shit, Fazio is shit. No surprise there.

But, if you actually watched the match and you have an IQ above 1, you would realise that things could've been a lot different.

We had a go today. We troubled them, we had a penalty and multiple great chances against the title winners. Let's face it, the only reason we lost was because of one of the worst refereeing performances in PL history and because of the best player in the PL.

If Mason had scored, we could've got a much better result.
If Lamela had shot more quickly, we could've got something out of the game.
Soldado had a pen (albeit it probably shouldn't have been given), which he missed, but, again, we might have actually gone on to win the game if he scored.

These were just 3 moments and we had many more. Attacking-wise, we were great. Some of the movement and passing seemed new to me, since we hadn't played that way for a long time before this season, especially against one of the big teams.

If we look at City, they had:

A goal due to a Lamela mistake, but Lampard was in an offside position. However, it was pretty much all down to Aguero in the end.
A scored penalty that wasn't even a penalty.
Another scored penalty.
Aguero again.

If you actually look at the match again, defensively weren't that bad. It could've been a lot worse if it wasn't for good defending. And even if you look at the times they had chances, it was due to a counter-attack, because we were actually having a go.

We had nearly as many good chances as them and after what happened last season, where we did fuck all, I'm happy.

Soldado was great, but the ****s on here will look at the missed penalty. Please don't start Ade in the PL for many games.
Eriksen was brilliant- a big fuck you to the Denmark manager.
Mason was different class. Under the radar for so many years but not anymore.
Lloris was Lloris.
Rose, for the most part, was good again.
Chadli is looking a lot better as well.

So, thank you Tottenham Hotspur. Regardless of the result, I'm still proud.

I can't wait to see us more under Pochettino.

COYS.

It was a good performance but its a similar story to last season

Dawson goal gets disallowed(when he was offside)
They get a Pen when rose won the ball
The ref sends off rose when it wasn't a goal scoring opportunity

Some people think the difficult point of view is to highlight the negatives. Standing up today shows a bit of class. Well played lad.

The fact that we carved out so many chances against an elite level playing squad like this one that City have bought is a major positive. If the ref hadn't been such a **** we could have easily had at least a point today.

That post is pretty much a comprehensive, up and down *win*.

And let's not forget soldado actually won the penalty in the first place; plus he made the assist for our goal.

The terrifying thing is that we've struggled to score goals so far this season, so today we finally played the correct front four.

So we create more chances than we've done all season against the second best team in the country away from home.

Except Bobby misses a penalty. Nevermind he was integral to our successful attacking play. People won't remember that.

The fear now is that Poch sees the result, the missed pen, and puts Ade back into the starting line-up next week, and we go back to square one again.

You're preaching to the choir.

Sadly most people that have those views will not change their opinion beacuse of what you have said.

Really hope not. Hopefully poch saw the much improved fluidity in our attacking play with bobby there.

You are fast becoming one of my favourite posters on this forum mate. Can't disagree with anything, apart from maybe the Defence. This was not the first game I have seen us looking far from convincing at the back. That said i am hopeful that we will improve with games, and we still have Walker, Yedlin and Naughton to come back into the fight for the RB position. I also want to see Davies given more game time with the team, as he must offer Rose serious competition for a place at LB. I think everything else is bang on, and for me it is a matter of time and a few Jan signings to give Poch the tools to take us forward. Bobby to start with the front 3 is a must for me right now.

The thing is though that we were playing a top team, who will attack and allow chances to exploit them on the counter and will back themselves to out football any (lesser) team that takes the invitation. We aren't complete halfwits and are arguably 'best of the rest' outside the best clubs in the league, so will at times use that time and space to counter effectively you would hope and be a team that could cause them problems. We still fell into the trap of trying to outgun them and got our arses handed to us when they got the ball back and sprung forward on the attack.

Because we had a team that wasn't going to sit back, its a pretty unique situation. You say we created a lot of chances, but what happens in the coming weeks when we play teams that probably sit back and clog the centre of the park and give us no room? These are the games where we need to see these chances created and where we struggle.

There were some pleasing things today, and its nice to create chances. I cant shake off the feeling though that we played right in to their hands and they were delighted with the tactics we went out there with.

Only players who had good performances were Lloris, Mason, Eriksen and Soldado. The rest? Absolutely not. Good team performance? In the first half, maybe. That's about it.

Another thing, I guarantee you there are those who complained when we sat back vs Arsenal and are complaining because we lost today even though we had a real go for the first 70-80 minutes.

I think Adebayor has been a big reason why we've struggled recently.

I don't hate him or even not rate him (he was in plenty of my pre-season 'what team do you want to see' line-ups), I think at his best he's almost unplayable. However his form lately has been desperate and actually damaging to the team.

Soldado's movement and touches today in the first half were a world away from Ade's play lately, we looked so much more dangerous.

I wasnt complaining against Arsenal. Loved those tactics. Poch went back to his tactics vs liverpool for this one and he rightfully paid for it. Should have employed the same tactics used against arsenal. Terrible tactics and terrible decision to start fazio when Vertonghen is very clearly our best defender. But he'll get a free pass on here like always.

I agree about staying positive but how you can possibly call anyone criticising Lamela and Soldado as "knee jerkers" I'll never know.

How long do you have to give players or is it only record signings or players you like that get extended grace?

My opinion based on what I have seen is now that Soldado will never make it as a top level PL striker and we should look to move him on when we have an adequate replacement in. Thats not based on today, as I haven't seen the game but I understand he played well, but on his time with the club.

Lamela I'm willing to give more time given his age, but we may have to face facts that sometimes it just doesn't work out. Not always down to ability or the club, but sometimes it's just not the right fit. I fear this may be the case with Lamela.

I agree Soldado had a good first half and individually some of our players found a bit of joy out there today. As a team though I do think its easier when you have a bit of time and space on the counter and can make runs into space. We weren't faced with the brick wall defences today and being forced to use the ball 'in front' of the opposition with 8/9/10 players back behind the game. These are the games we struggle against, no matter who is playing, and if anything the games where we need to be seeing chances created like this, it will almost mean more to cut through with reduced time/space against a packed defence!
