2022 World Cup: Fans could be housed in Bedouin-style camps

Supporters at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar could be housed in traditional Bedouin-style desert camps.

Some of the 500,000 fans expected in the Gulf nation might be accommodated under canvas near stadiums.

"At the heart of this World Cup is a commitment to showcase hospitality and friendship of the Middle East," said a spokesman.

"As a result, we are actively researching the concept of supporters sleeping under the stars."

Bedouin campsites are inspired by the homes of tribes that have historically lived in the Arabian and Syrian deserts.

The tournament has already been moved from its traditional June-July slot to December over concerns about high temperatures.

Why do I think that the hotels aren't going to be ready on time?

Not sure what you mean -- would that be retired international players?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'd watch it if they could set it up and there could be some big names retired by 2022. Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic etc (if they're not still all playing for West Ham).

How this nation is allowed to host the WC is beyond me.

I don't know why any women would want to go to these backwards countries, with their views on (and treatment of) women.

Never been to the Mid East, probably never will since i don't see them changing much in my lifetime. I don't think i'm missing much.

Won't watch a second of any of that WC either. Hope alot of other people won't too.

I wouldn't watch the football (if it comes to that) but have to say I would be pretty intrigued to see if there's any hooligan trouble out there...

That's a lot of lashes. their lash man would end up looking like Rafa Nadal with his one popeye arm.

Put simply....$$$$$$$$$

Need sponsors to pull out of supporting the competition taking place there (and in Russia) for FIFA to have the bollocks to actually do something.

They won't as they're complete scum

When the whole transgender bathrooms madness was kicking off in the US a few months back, the likes of Paypal, Coke, a few banks, etc, threatened to pull out of the states that opposed transgender bathroom laws.

They cited human rights issues, but were still operating in countries (including Gulf State countries) where you're executed for being transgender, homosexual, etc.

These companies do not give a solitary about anyone or anything apart from money.

Are you one of the 90% of Americans who have never travelled outside of the US&A by any chance?
