I work in risk management and there are a lot of misconceptions that can be spun anyway you want

It wouldn't surprise me that something like this would appear on the Qatar risk register; in fact it would be neglient if it didn't

What would be really interesting to find out is (i) how they've rated this risk (ii) if the risk is a thread or an opportunity and (iii) what mitigations (current and proposed) are in place

I think that's easy to answer, throw more money at it

Haha, yeah usually it would be

But in this case the risk might be connected to regional powers, with the support of the world's most powerful nation, looking to nobble Qatar through intelligence and militarily means; not exactly something you can just throw money at

So they've opened a case against the head of BeIN sports, who happens to be the PSG chairman, about bribing Valcke over TV rights.

There is "an increasing political risk that Qatar may not host the World Cup in 2022", according to a confidential report examining the risks surrounding the project.

What would be even more interesting would be to know who commissioned/paid for the report.

My biggest concern is that the report was from Cornerstone Global.

I'm fairly certain they're the chaps that send me my shaving kit every month, so they've got no business advising on this.

About time. Khelaifi, before becoming Qatar's bagman at PSG, was head of Al Jazeera Sport, renamed BeIN to distance themselves from being associated with Qatar's bribed World Cup bid.
You must all understand the Qatari mindset. Everyone has his price... and if he doesn't, then he's not worth buying. I can tell you... there will be people back in Doha absolutely bricking themselves about this news.

The Football Association has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Qatar Football Association ahead of the Gulf State hosting the 2022 World Cup.

Three years after Greg Dyke, FA chairman at the time, described Qatar being awarded the World Cup as “the worst moment in Fifa’s history”, his successor Greg Clarke was in Doha to forge links with the country.

As part of the cooperation deal, the two countries have committed to exploring the possibility of arranging friendlies across age groups.

“The FA is pleased to commit to this knowledge-sharing partnership with the Qatar Football Association,” Clarke said.

“We have a long history of collaboration with various national associations to share knowledge and experience to support the development of football.

“For Qatar, developing the game across the country is a key objective as they approach the hosting of the Fifa World Cup in 2022.”

A knowledge sharing partnership? I wonder what knowledge the Qatar Football Association can offer the FA, how to win a world cup bid perhaps?

How to offer and how to accept a bribe, which is what this is. The UK and Qatar have an important business relationship and Qatar uses football to expand its reach.

Starting to look like deja vu. The US/Canada/Mexico bid for the 48 team World Cup in 2026 was looking like a lock. Now all of a sudden Morocco is gaining steam. How they will host a 48 team World Cup is beyond me, but FIFA will do anything to screw the US right now. I guess they're still bitter over the whole corruption thing from the FBI.

Still going to be very hot but good chance the players won’t be burnt out like many have appeared to have been this World Cup.

Does this mean we will have a break for the wc and then a winter break? Will almost make it back to back season with little time in between.

My concern would be more of a worry as the set dates are 21/11 to 18/12/2022 (for a team who would go all
the way) but I assume there would also be a couple of weeks when players would be with their national teams prior to the tournament so that is a possible six weeks lost to the domestic team.

This wouldn't affect a team like Arsenal much obviously.

Ah well.

I thought the idea was they would change the dates of the league seasons a year prior to and after the World cup to not coincide.

No way the European leagues would be able to run concurrently with the WC, their not on a central contract to England like cricketers.
