He'll appear at the 'near post' of the pearly gates and St Peter will wonder where the f*** he came from. One of my earlist heroes in a Spurs shirt. RIP Gilly.

my sons asked me what type of player Gilzean was my reply was think of Berbatov and you get the idea but I must say Gilly was far better with his head he and greaves had this understanding that when the ball was played in the air up to Gilzean Greaves would run past him to receive a deft flick on ;this move meant Jimmy scored a lot more goals than other players
A player of sheer class and ability and always played fairly

He did exactly the same with Chivers and Martin Peters. King of the near post flick.

Absolutely gutted by the news. Such a fantastic character and a lovely human being.
You will be sorely missed Gilly.

Fond memories of Gilly playing alongside Greaves. Never seemed flustered and had rapier like precision with his head. Funny enough one of my biggest memories of him was one night against Arsenal at WHL. The ball went back to Bob Wilson who was unaware Gilly was behind him....all of a sudden Gilzean had nodded the ball from the keepers hands and went in to score. There was pandemonium...the referee didn't see what happened and Wilson was really going off.....eventually the linesman told the referee what had happened. Brilliant:) RIP Gilly
