They're only a point ahead. I remember the days when they'd be 25/30 points in front already at this stage of the season.

Times have changed

Needed to win yesterday - never underestimate what the application of pressure can achieve
If we needed to win away at Manchester City we were never really in it anyway. A draw is worth the train fare and I really think Chelsea will and were always going to beat Hull. That said I really really really hope I am wrong.

Arsenal actually make me sick how ridiculously lucky they get

Yeah we got lucky yesterday, but that was an exception to the rule for us. They routinely get 'uge slices of fortune and it makes my piss boil

I hope our players don't think like me, but it weekends like this that make me think it's not going to happen for us this year.

The chavs have not dropped points against any team outside the top 6 since the beginning of September last year, they would only have to get 2 points per game (or just slightly over I believe) over the next 16 to reach 90 points or more which basically means that either us, Arsenal or Liverpool would have to win the majority (I would say 14 to be safe) of the last 16 games to avoid Chelsea winning the PL (and that's even IF Chelsea drop points to teams around them.)

I would say at this point it is highly unlikely, unless Chelsea hit a hugely shit patch of form or have a devastating injury crisis, that anyone is catching them.

The turning point, if there was going to be one, in my opinion, would have been last weekend, after we had beaten them and they were having issues with Costa, if Leicester would have beaten them then who know's what impact that may have had on their confidence.

As it stands now they look like they are going to win it, you obviously never know in football but my money would certainly be on them, the gap is just too big, they hit the ground running and haven't looked back unfortunately.

It's up to us now to retain champions league football more importantly and focus our efforts on maybe winning the FA Cup or EL and just hope that Chelsea slip up.

A trophy should be the priority above all else imo, we can't beat ourselves up about it if we miss out on the PL, it is never going to be an easy task catching them, so far nobody but Chelsea have really been in the race.

Prob no chance but never give up. Things can change v quickly, but it is all on the next 2 games for them. Simply have to drop points

They are getting the luck surely eh.. The more I looked, the more Hull was robbed of the penalty.. Alonso got away with it.. May be so much different if it was given and equalised.. Doubt the kick by Alonso will be discussed much..

Nothing right now suggests that any of the other top 6 will make up the ground on Chelsea. They don't drop points against the bottom 14 atm and they need to drop several for any of the others to have a chance.

If Chelsea maintain their points average so far over the rest of the season, it's mathematically impossible for us to catch them even if we won all 16 of our remaining matches (we'd finish on 94 points, they'd be on 95). Consider that it's hugely unlikely we'll manage that: 2.5 points per game would be an absolutely incredible beyond belief return for us, and would see us end on 86 points, we do need them to have a poor spell perhaps involving major injury issues where they drop points against teams outside the top 6 to have any hope. I honestly think it's beyond us this season and we should focus on finally breaking the Arsenal hoodoo and seeking glory in the cups: if Chelsea decide to collapse then it's a happy bonus, but we can't expect that they will and it isn't in our hands.

This is why I think our focus should be the FA Cup and EL mainly, not being defeatist by saying that, I am simply saying that we are far more likely to win 6 or 4 games as opposed to 14 on the spin just to level on points with Chelsea.

It's simply playing the odds, calculated risk. Our priority should also be staying in the top four however, we cannot afford to drop out and let someone like Liverpool sneak in, that would be catastrophic financially and also in terms of the players, who ultimately want to know we are progressing rather than regressing.

A trophy has to be the priority as well because these players and our fans need to know what it feels like to win something, it's been too long and until we win one it will always be hard to goto the "next level."

So basically, in my opinion, stay in the top four and win a trophy, that should be our aim, if the opportunity arises go for the PL title but it seems very unlikely at this point Chelsea will drop enough points to be caught.
