Judging Liverpool against West Ham who they've scored four against in each of their last four meetings is like solely judging us by our form against Stoke.

Gutted stoke got relegated last season. I’ve really enjoyed our matches vs them in the last few years

Mustafi/ sokratis is really poor I mean really poor. At a guess I’d say maybe 4 or5 teams in the entire league would swap their CB pairing for them. And once they’ve been exposed which I believe they will be in first 10 games where will Emery turn holding or mavropanos.

They do have koscielny to come back in who is slightly better

although watching the goons suffer is highly amusing, lets not get too carried away. First new manager after 20+ years, and 2 hard fixtures, so while i'd be very surprised if they seriously challenged for top 4 let alone made it to the top4, lets not celebrate too wildly too soon......just enjoy the moment :)

and early on had enough chances to be well in front of Chelsea. a very open game at fast pace, until Hazard came on then Arse dropped a little. if Arse had won that 4-3 I don't think Chelsea could of complained

Koscielny has been steadily declining for the last 2-3 years. An injury that serious, and him turning 33 next month... I’d be quite surprised to see him come back as first choice to be honest.

I don't even see the goons as competition anymore, that's how far they have fallen. Still enjoy them losing though :sneaky:

not until we can go to the Emirates and beat them 2-0 we can shut our mouths
I hear you but I really don't think the head to heads are that important when evaluating our relative positions. When we were poor we still did ok against them, particularly at home, didn't change the fact there was a gulf in class between the teams. Anything can happen in 90 minutes but league position over a season doesn't lie. If we can keep hold of Poch and they keep Kroenke then I can see us being ahead of them for a long time. Not counting my chickens and being complacent I'm just looking at the current relative trajectories of the clubs.

Watching the games so far, Arsenal don't look like they can possibly make top 4. Man City will most likely win the title or be 2nd at the absolute worst, so that makes it a 4 horse race for 3 spots. I still see Liverpool and Chelsea making the top 3, what I've seen in the first few games hasn't changed my opinion on that, which leaves us and United fighting for 4th. United look terrible against Brighton today but I'm sure they'll improve somewhat and give us a fight for 4th, but I think we'll edge them out this season.

my point was...until we can go to these places aka old Trafford and win, we can't win the league

Firstly as am_yisraerl_chai said. But secondly that's just not true. The top sides very rarely lose home matches - a point away at Old Trafford for instance is a strong result. Take the 14-15 season where Chelsea won the league with a fairly typical for champions 87 points - their away form against the other "Big 6" teams was 1 win, 3 draws, 1 defeat. 15-16 season Leicester got 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. 16-17 Chelsea - with one of the best league performances ever - tallied 1 win, 1 draw and 3 defeats. The important thing is to try not to lose to your closest rivals, and if you do to make sure you beat them in the home game. But it is entirely possible to not beat any of the big sides away and win the league.

Koscielny is finished to have that serious an Achilles Injury at 33 is impossible to be anywhere near player he was.

We are currently 3rd fav with bookies for top 4. Based on what I suspected before a ball was kicked and what I’ve seen I’d be pretty disappointed if we don’t get top 4. But first real big test next week. A win at OT would already put us at least 6 points clear of united and Arsenal after just 3 games. That would be a nice little head start.
