Be interesting to see how much pressure Pool fans put on their team, second half of their season...and whether their team can handle it

Expectations will reach insane levels

I think BBC indirectly touch on this here:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46668311
Two of my mates are Liverpool fans and they seem fairly convinced they will win the league and get to the CL final and probably win it. I just don’t get why pool fans are so deluded. Yes they are probably favourites for the league but to them it’s a forgone conclusion. Apparently they are are the biggest club in the world, deserve to be champions and are run impeccably. They still think it’s PSG and City’s fault the market is so inflated and refuse to believe them braking the record for a GK and CD has had any effect. Im fanatical about Spurs, but I’m not dense enough to think that we are the biggest club in world football.

Mate , they are single minded one eyed monsters, always the victims never they're fault should be their motto, I despise them more than arse and Chelsea combined. There's no other team on the planet that comes close ,it would be impossible to listen to if they won the league....

Win our next three fixtures and we're bang in the race.

I think City could struggle at Leicester and Southampton, while Liverpool probably won't win at the Etihad.

Hard to get too excited about a title challenge while Liverpool are winning games and not conceding goals. Have a horrible feeling that we're going to have another great season only for a different team to break records and pip us again.

Do think Liverpool have been quite fortunate though in quite a few of their results. Think it could be a case of them quickly losing momentum after they pick up their first loss and they do tend to dip in form in the second half of the season.

Reckon we are going to have to sign at least one player if we're serious about competing though. Bring in a good quality central midfielder and our squad looks far more capable of pushing on for the rest of the season.

I might be in the minority but I really don't want Pool to win the league if we can't and would rather City do, even with their oil money. Whilst there is a lot to admire about how Klopp has them playing and the club has backed him transfers wise, their fans don't deserve it. They are the most deluded bunch I've ever come across. They think they've a divine right to win and are the biggest club in the world. Utd fans are showing similar traits in stating how Poch can't turn them down. Also, Klopp can sometimes act like a buffoon: see celebrations against us at Anfield last year when they went 2-1 up or against Everton.

To that end, I hope Brighton beat Arse who then snatch a draw at Pool who lose to City who in turn lose to Leicester!! We then win our next few to bunch up the top 3 all whilst having a healthy gap to 4th. Simples!!

The impossible par: update after round 18

The (expected) ‘top 6’ are judged against the following ridiculously high expectation: they will win ALL home games; they will win all away games – except those against ‘top 6’ rivals, which they will lose. That would give a total of 105 points.
As the season progresses a running total is kept of points dropped or gained against that standard (examples: City draw at Wolves = minus 2; City win at Arsenal = plus 3).

After 18 games
(deviations from expectation shown)

Liverpool still stumble free. City perhaps human. The gap from those two to us perhaps wider than the "real" table indicates. Grrr. Chelsea´s point leakage looking more and more like a pattern than a series of unexpected one-offs.

The only issue I have is whilst we are still underdogs and going under the radar, that’s when this Spurs side excels. The issue I have is, if we get to a stage where we are literally neck and neck with the leaders, could you trust us to take advantage and win a game to go top? Maybe we have finally learnt this season I don’t know.

The difference between us & liverpool as it stands is the Wembley 6 pointer loss. And City beat us too...
If we have any thoughts on winning the PL this season, Liverpool away & City home - we got to beat them. If we dont, I dont give any chnace regardless of how well we do against other teams.

Even if they were to beat us in the return legs, we could still win if they fuck up against other sides that we beat. Unlikely but possible.

Big couple of weeks coming up with our fixtures versus City and Liverpool’s games. We have to win all three of our games and if we do we could go into the new year very close to them both, if not ahead.

Who’s going to be balls out enough to change the thread title?

To have any hope of the title, we would have to avoid defeat against both of them, at the very least.

But beating one of them and not losing against the other would put us right in contention.

I think we'd deal with the pressure better than Liverpool - on them it will be enormous. However not City, think they have enough about them both mentally and physically to pip us.
