I have a feeling we’ll finish 5th this season. Yes we were 3rd last season, but IMO we weren’t that convincing for a huge chunk of it, so improving this summer was key for me. I don’t think we’ve done that, and in football there’s no such thing as standing still, so that means we’re worse. I obviously hope I’m proven wrong, but we’ll see

1. City
2. Liverpool
3. Chelsea
4. Man U
5. Us

Because...

1) New coach with very different playing style.

2) Squad best designed to play back three with wing backs.

3) Massively inconsistent players.

4) Lack of a top quality striker.

No one denies their midfield is strong. But they've played one game, let's not get too ahead of ourselves.
We can’t “get too ahead of ourselves after one game”’ but we can write them off?

So many here are brainwashed by the media. Sickening listening to the media yesterday declaring it a two horse race already.

The minute Kane is re-energised and we start looking really threatening again the optimism will return.

Don't underestimate Pochs ability to motivate this group again.

It sounds like you are brainwashed by your own bias then. We are NOT title contenders, and will finish closer (points-wise) to 6th than we do 1st

I think Liverpool will be more consistent this season - they took a while to get into gear last time round - and should be looking to finish somewhere around 80-85 points. Chelsea and United have a lower ceiling, I think - 75-80. We certainly have it in us to get above 80 back in our home ground but fighting it out with Chelsea and United wouldn't be a surprise either.

We'll be there or thereabouts come May. I've no doubt about that.

And City will be a good ten points ahead of whoever's second whatever happens.

They are right, they just got the wrong teams:)

Funny how so many people are brainwashed by Sky Sports News and the transfer window, too.

Automatically having an unchanged squad means that we are weaker? Based on what evidence I don't know...

But we've been title contenders in recent seasons, how the fuck am I biased...
Last season we finished 23 points short of 1st, and 14 points clear of 6th, so @PeeEyeEmPee's prediction for this season lines up closer to the final standings in 2017/18 than a title challengers prediction...

and Arsenal finished 32 points off the bottom and 37 off the top, so they're surely getting relegated?

I don't follow?

Just using the same logic of "the closer margin must be the most plausible".

We finished 4 points off 2nd last season - one freak Man City season doesn't somehow mean we are going to finish 6th because literally no one got near them last season.

I don't recall the @PeeEyeEmPee post that I quoted saying we were going to finish 6th.

Missing the point he was just saying it's unlikely we will be challenging for the title as it is a huge points gap we'd probably have to make up this season unless city lose form.

It's not missing the point - he (and they) are writing off our chances on the basis of points that have yet to be won, and games that have yet to be played, despite saying that we achieved our total when we "weren’t that convincing for a huge chunk of it"

Congrats, you win the semantic argument. (y)

wtf? there's a difference between semantics and actually saying you did something you didn't do.

It's amazing how people can turn a thread into an argument on the basis of arguing the toss over things they've not read correctly.

edit: and now going on a neg-rep rampage
