was just watching premier league years so fucking annoying. 4 points off chelsea with a +6 better goal difference and 4 games to go and for the first time we were playing before chelsea. Still feel if we beat west ham we would have gone on to win the league. Heartbreaking

Was just watching that as well, we were fucking awesome that year though. I still think we had become a better team than Chelsea by the end of that season but we were too far behind by January..

That season brings back so many memories.

Remember being at Burnley away and news filtered in that Chelsea had lost to Palace at home.

The chants of 'we're going to win the league' felt like the start of something special. We just dropped too many points at the start of the season, playing catch up is always difficult, and the broadcasting schedule was fixed in Chelsea's favour. We ended up playing every Monday night.

Can understand why most arnt filled with confidence as our performances havnt been great, by our standards, despite a very good points return.

I think our fixtures have been favourable but all games in this league are tough to a certain extent. Whether it's facing very good attacking sides or stubborn defensive outfits who set out to frustrate.

We need players back but we really need to get that intensity back into our game... The Poch DNA etc That's what will determine where we finish this season.

If things stay the same pretty much I could see us struggling to finish fourth.

If we get back to the standards of last season the sky is the limit imo - at least 2nd is possible.

So it really does hinge on getting that level back again.

We normally go really well in the winter months, so hopefully we kick into gear and it will be an exciting season but we need to get it going now.

To be honest I don't think we'll see the high intensity, high pressing play that we used to see so much. I think our best chances are to get the best out of Eriksen in particular, but Dele, Kane and Son/Lucas also. Funnily enough if there's anyone I trust right now to perform consistently and at a good level it's Lamela, can't say with confidence that any of the other attacking players will perform well enough on a consistent basis.

Getting into the new stadium may be a great mental boost for the players though with the timing of moving in being close to the January window too you would like to think we'd bring in reinforcements too but I won't hold my breath on that one.

that was the season Leicester won the title

edit: after our 1st 7 games we had 17pts 5 wins 2 draws, not exactly a slow start, we had too many draws after beating Man C in October, lost our 1st game of the season in November away to title winners Chelsea

4 draws in a row in Oct/Nov and not drawing with Chelsea away...and not drawing (at least) to West Ham away, cost us.

The 0-0 draw against a poor Sunderland wasn't great either.

Our 'transfers in' that season were also sub-standard. Victor was very good, but we signed 2 attacking players and an 'all rounder' in Sissoko and they were all pretty ineffectual. Imagine if we could have got the likes of Lucas in, then we may have had enough in those tightly contested games to pick up the 5 to 7 points needed.

The margins for error are so small at the top!!

Just found this chart on Twitter. Looks like us and City might be struggling come the end of the season. They can go out and buy a whole new team though.

Vvd seems to be lot of conflicting reports. Dutch say he broke 2 ribs and been having injections for a month.

How long had Klopp been at Dortmund before all the players started breaking?

Add in our 7 games in 22 days and we're bound to see more muscular based injuries affect our players. I remember Poch affirming, right after the transfer window closed, that he was more than happy to select players in the academy to step in and contribute to the team. Well, he might be forced to do so :(

That will be a roooooough week. I can't see us getting anything from the City game and you just know West Ham will play their strongest team on Wednesday. Chase all that with a tough test against Wolves and guaranteed SC will be full of :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Hopefully Poch will give the odd academy prospect some game time over that period of games... Its high time he did so anyway. We never going to know their level if not given the opportunity of some minutes in the 1st team.

See, people ask me why I hate West Ham so much and I often find it hard to explain it properly, but there it is, right there. I will never be able to express the unhealthy feelings I feel towards them when they beat us, which thankfully isn't very often. It's as if they'd just become European Champions and World Cup winners in one match. It wouldn't surprise me one little bit if they organise street parties on these occasions, and dance around with their thumbs under their armpits like the demented cretins they are, and I haven't even started on the scenes many of us can remember with them infesting a corner of our sacred White Hart Lane making Nazi salutes and making hissing sounds to imitate the gas chambers of the death camps. As a Jewish man, that is something I will never forget, but that's a subject for another thread perhaps (Chelsea and Leeds are no better and I have similar feelings towards both of them too...).

And then there's the last game of the 2005/6 season which even now I find hard to talk about. Lasagne Gate. Scenes of demented celebration and mockery which unfortunately will stay with me until the day I die.

And then there's their board of Directors with Miss Piggy...

I wonder if any clubs really hate us and everything we stand for, as much as West Ham and Chelsea but I doubt it and sadly, my hatred for them has evolved steadily over the years as a defence mechanism.

So getting beaten by a team like West Ham, for whom I have no respect always feels like I've had my guts ripped out through my mouth.

Sorry, I went off on one there.
