Newly appointed Real Madrid manager Juande Ramos has washed his hands of any blame regarding Tottenham's disastrous start to the season.

Although he led Tottenham to win their first silverware for almost a decade in last year's Carling Cup, Ramos was sacked after winning just six matches out of the 26 that followed.

Ramos made regular headlines when he took over at White Hart Lane – in particular for the changes in player's diets that he introduced – something he still maintains was a big factor in a list of reasons why things went wrong.

"The psychological state of the Tottenham players, sometimes, was not what it should have been," he said.

“Sometimes they appeared to be pushed, positively or negatively, by gusts of wind. It is hard to explain that, since they should be good players on the pitch.

“First of all, the sales of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane did much damage to Tottenham."

And regarding nutrition, he told the Star: "I believe the feeding habits were not the right ones in England. Changing that hit them in the face and some of the players were obsessed by it.”

Having landed his "dream job" Ramos hopes his stay extends beyond the end of the season.

“I hope I don't disappoint anybody. I don't think there is any higher level than arriving at Real Madrid,” he said.

“I like working on a short-term basis. I want the people I work with to be happy with me. That’s why I only signed on for six months. If things work out and the club is happy with my performance, we’ll go on for another season. And then we’ll see.”

Meanwhile, on hearing of Ramos' appointment, his former assistant at Tottenham, Gus Poyet, told the Sun: "It shows what a top manager he is considered around the world.

“If people think he wasn’t able to manage Tottenham, how could he then go on and get a better job so quickly? That means many people still have a very high opinion of him. So it’s also a case of proving people right.

“Juande will be on fire because it’s not nice when you get the sack. To be able to come back so quickly and, as I said, in a better job is fantastic."

Okay Ramos, if it ain't your fault why has Harry got results from the same players?

Ramos is a top coach no questions about that.

From what the press says you could infer that Spurs players were very offended by the change of diet/training routine etc...they couldn't adopt.
If I were nice I would say it is cultural difference. If I were harsh I would say it's unprofessional. Players follow managerial orders. Simple as that. If they don't and sulk then they are not professional.

Oh dear, he's making Tottenham look bad with comments like these, maybe he should just concentrate on his new team and leave the past where it should be, the past.

move on - its just so annoying how our club has been the biggest losers in this whole sage - how much money has been pissed away on compensation to clubs and managers over the last year - and we are no better off for it.

The Madrid job will put paid to his immacualte credentials, prior to his brief stay with Spurs. He is a Cup coach. Madrid want titles.

Just pissed me off how he never got to grips with his English (like Capello has done) . . . don't care what you say but that has to have a negative effect on the players.

You know where Sevilla finished in 06/07?

Move on, as I said, but I am not sure if he will do much better than Schuster in the short term. Madrid have horrendous injuries and a shaky defence.

I like the way Ramos thinks he chose to have a 6 month contract i think its more a case of madrid not risking a huge Compo packet if he doesn't deliever.

That would be third having won the copa del rey and the uefa cup
  11. Coyboy
Yes, and they had a chance of winning the league on the last day.

He needs to accept some blame for the poor start.

I don't see where he is denying all culpability, just that he is saying that it was not all his fault. You'd have to be blind to think it was all his fault, but it seems you guys are easily lead by sensationalist headlines.

Other papers are linking him to our players, none of which I buy into. He's being linked to bentley, which I would absolutely love to happen but I sincerely doubt it as by all accounts Bentley and he really did not get on. He is being linked to Lennon, which I can believe because Lennon (rightly) was first choice even ahead of Bentley, and he is a fantastic player. I would be distraught to see Lennon leave though. He is being linked to Zokora, which stands to reason because he never ever left the guy out and he is now on record as saying in the last 24 hrs that Zokora was his favourite player at Spurs. I would happily see Zokora moved on if he was replaced with a really good defensive midfielder. However, all of this is pie in the sky in my opinion.

Exactly, why didnt we sign him on a much shorter contract? His prem experience was zero, yet we gave him what, five years? Cost us a bundle in the process and he's walked away smiling.

I thought he would be the dogs when he arrived, but now he's like a stale chorizo stuck in my teeth.

    Okay, I'm moving on now.....

It was player power thay got Ramos the sack.
  16. Stoof
No, it was not being able to manage a Premier League team that got him the sack.

We gave him a 3.5 year contract.
It cost us his full wages for the time he was with us.
It has cost us his the majority of his wages up until yesterday.
It will cost us no, or very little, more.
And qualifying for Europe via a cup win probably earned him a nice bonus, deservedly so.

If press reports about how much he earnt are to be believed, I'd estimate that he probably earnt 5m in wages while still our manager, and seeing as he has accepted another job so quickly, about another 1.5m since.

He won't get another penny, firstly because Levy will not have been naive enough with his business nouse to not put the relevant clauses into Ramos original contact, and secondly because Ramos would not have been able to take the Madrid job while we were still paying any of his wages unless we consented to it (highly unlikely) as that would be a gross conflict of interests situation.

I'm sure the language barrier was a major problem with Ramos. Despite him nose diving at Spurs I hope he does well at Real Madrid - in a league he knows well and using a language he can speak.
