from Galahad the Gnome

.... claims to have overheard a conversation between Juande and Gus, the gist of which is:

(1) They are not impressed by the quality of the first team squad, nor the ability of most of the players to play the powerful and pacy attacking style JR would like to institute at Spurs.

(2) After completing their initial analysis, JR told DC and DL that as far as he's concerned only 6 players are 'untouchable'.

(3) The rest will be shipped out during January and the summer transfer window, where possible.

well a lot of us aren't impressed with the quality of our current (fit) squad either

Wonder who the 'special six' are? (only counting fit players)

Keane, Lennon, Berbatov Bent, Defoe, Lee, Chimbonda - 6 from them I reckon

and so begins yet another squad overhaul....

My guess on the 6 :

Berbs
Keane
King
Lennon
Bale
Chimbo

But surely DL wont want to take a massive hit on Bent, Kaboul, Jenas, Zokora. I have doubts that if these are to be shipped out we will get anything close to what we paid for them.

I think

Robbie Keane
Aaron Lennon
Dimitar Berbatov
Gareth Bale
Jermain Jenas
Ledley King

I didn't include unfit players - cos how can he judge properly - but of course I add (provisionally) Bale & King

I'd be surprised if Bent's not in the 6

I was amazed when people were talking about JR's kind of player, fit fast agile and then some ruled out Bent - he surely fits those criteria better than Keane or Berbs for example.

but hang on, he hasn't seen bale yet, so i don't think he'll be included in that list

that also doesn't include ledley either, so your 6 are going to be from the rest of the squad.

i have 4:

keane (definitely),
berbatov (due to ramos saying he's an important player - not that he's shown it!)
lennon (fast - should suit the ramos game)
bent (played fairly well last game)

the other 2 are anyone's guess, but could malbranque be in there? he's a good player, but just might not fit into the plans due to not being a hard-arsed CM or a pacy winger

If this is true then you would expect another name to be departing the club soon, that of Comolli.

Levy went for the DoF set up to avoid mass player changes when we change the first team coach.

If true, and the operative word being if, then it would be an admission that either the DoF set up doesn't work, or that our DoF is shit and is making shit signings.

last season i looked at this squad as the best we have had for a very long time, but after the way this season has gone it is very easy to pick holes in it. My vote is for: Berba, Keano, Defoe, Lennon, King & Bale

So much for all this 'the director of football system causes minimum disruption when there is a change of manager' bollocks!

Strange conversation to over hear. They really should meet somewhere more private :)

good point!

this will be interesting indeed!

however, you could counter that by saying it all changes when a new DOF comes in - that's why he's the lynchpin.
the current team is a mix of the arnesan era and the now comolli one.
it can be a good system, but you really need consistency in the DOF position for it to work.
we haven't had consistency in either that position or manager yet which is why you might see a big change.

From watching alot of Sevilla over the last few years I'd say Keane would probably not be in that list has he doesn't seem to fit in with how JR likes to play. He generally plays direct pacey strikers so if he has plans to play in this way I'd say Defoe and Bent fit into this before Keane and even Berbs.
