It seems quite often the worst thing a coach can do is be successful, as expectation rises beyond what is possible. If Derby hadn't had won the play offs, they'd probably be in the top 3 in the Championship right now and Davies would be very safe in his job.

Although Derby finished ahead of them in the league and beat them in the play-off final, WBA were probably better-equipped for Premier League survival.

Both would be comfortably mid-table in Ligue 1, though.

That seems a bit of a random comment, or am I missing something discussed in another thread?

No, I'd just caught up with the Ligue 1 highlights on Setanta.

Oh I see. It just seemed strange that we were talking about Derby and out of nowhere you mention how they'd do in ligue 1:). Setanta is great for European football. Do you have it on the internet aswell, as if you do they have an archive which has quite alot of European games and highlight shows on it.

I just can't see how they hope to get anyone qualified to do better?

Was he sacked because of the performances? I can't help thinking that he's the kind of guy who is likely to stick it up em when the board ask about results.
I have an idea that he would have handed over a list of players he wanted in January and if he didn't get the right result he'd have exploded.
Maybe a bit of both, I guess the new guy may have ideas above his station.

Yep , he made a big point about speculating about foreign investment during his MOTD interview .

Maybe the board didn't like him speaking out .

It's getting to the stage that the only incentive for a manager to get his side promoted is if he's using it as a stepping stone to a bigger one .

No, I've got my Virgin Magic Box which means I can record games and watch them at my leisure. With Football Italia on 5 I've got more than I have time to watch.

Probably going to work out best for him, seems he's on his way to the Scotland job.

Good luck to Jewell, he's gonna need it.
