Yeah, I think that's too simplistic, and you're always gonna end up disappointed more often than not whatever team you support if that's the gauge. One team can win each competition, at the beginning there four trophies we could win, but were outsiders for all of them. You can't just ignore the games that get you to the semi-final, or the last 16 or whatever.

I get that we want trophies, and success, but there are 4/5 really strong contenders for domestic cups, that in any one off game we could come out on top, or not. And in Europe there's how many?

I'm not saying let's not strive for more, or be disappointed that we haven't got further, but let's not wash away all the good from the history books in the process.

I didn't mention whether you even win or lose the game. More that on these occasions, the very biggest all or nothing games, we just haven't performed at our best, we've froze. Mostly gifted the game to the opposition and been architects of our own downfall rather than the other team having to go out and beat us.

League Cup final '15 (admittedly early in the Poch era) - bit of a limp display, couldnt lay a glove on them. Chelsea 15/16 - Lost our heads. Semi Final last year - Lost concentration, gifted goals. Juve game - Lost our way totally and ruined the effort of getting back in the tie (situation caused by opening minutes meltdown in Turin). Semi Final this year - Froze completely after opening 15 mins, errors lose us the game.

Do we do a lot of good things, and achieved good results along the way - yes. Has the journey/process been a mostly enjoyable and impressive one - yes. Are there still boxes to tick - yes. Is this aspect one of them - to me, also yes.

Such a simple poll but says so much about the way people think and how they view the club/football

If you look at the big spenders not only do they get almost anybody they want who of course have ability and experience so they gain an experienced group quickly but also they improve every year

We used to dream about being a Top 4 ( 4 - 6) club. When we gate crashed that "club" lots thought we had made it but in reality it was only the first step and we were still along way behind but expectation changed immediately. I am very pleasantly surprised how we have consolidated our position especially when things are not on our side eg playing at "away" Wembley and not being the surprise team. teams knew what to expect from Tottenham yet we still overcome the obstacles. We are no longer the uninvited guest but we sit on the top table. We can and do beat clubs in the elite group and they see us as one of them.

The Juve game was the greatest lesson for us. To do so well yet still come up short because we were undid by experience was painful but to my mind we seem to learn from these experiences.

Manure only reminded us we dont have the right to win just because we are as good a side as them possibly better. Again more knowledge for the locker.

An excellent season because there was progress. A 9/10. I didnt ecpect to win the CL and knew the F A Cup was not a stroll

Traditionally playing on the Wembley pitch has been tiring for most teams - to cope with that all season has been impressive.
Just shy of amazing, and yet still progressing.
8/10 for me.
Just imagine if we had a fit and happy Toby all season, a less ref-trolled Dele And a perma-fit Harry...

Didn't expect a top four finish given the stadium so I'm chuffed about that.

The lack of a trophy still grates, and I don't think our performances have been that great or consistent.

However, it's fantastic to finish above the scum and cheatski; whilst seeing the scousers below us again is very sweet.

Tomorrow should, be a good day in the office!

Did we achieve above expectations? That has to be a yes (though I always think we will win the league) as the clear majority knew playing away form our home was giving up a big advantage. Winning a cup would have made it a nine (I gave it 8) but not at the expense of a top three finish. Basically ten minutes against Juventus and failing to score more than one in the first half of the FA Cup semi-final took the gloss off what was still a decent consolidating season.

8 from me. Can't really go higher than that without a trophy in the cabinet. Delighted we finished above Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. Champion's League run was good. It's just such a shame that we had 20 mad minutes against Juventus that knocked us out.

Domestic cups we were very poor and I think that comes down from the Manager not giving a toss about them, which I think is very disappointed.

Highlights of the season:
Top club in London
Sanchez settling in superbly
Beating Real Madrid
Harry hitting 30
Playing Liverpool and Man Utd off the park

Lowlights
Man City made us look like schoolboys....twice
Our tempo being ridiculously slow at times
Poch's in game tactical decisions
Being unable to break down stubborn teams
Switching back to 4-2-3-1, which I think is a massive reason to our slow tempo and inability to break down stubborn teams

I'd say no. Man City have had a great season, which nullified Chelsea's poor season. I think our first XI and squad is better than Man Utd so disappointed to finish below them this year. Poor domestic cup form too. So under the circumstances of Chelsea imploding I think we should have finished 2nd and with City departing the FA Cup, we were favourites to win it. We struggled through an easy run and then capitulated against an inferior team in the semi finals. That's in isolation of just this season.

Overall, we are definitely hitting above our weight. Theoretically we should be the 6th best team and us finishing anywhere above 6th is achieving above expectations.

8-ish maybe more like a 7.5 upon reflection, 10's perfection and rare to achieve plus as my old Nan used to say "Always Leave them wanting more lad" we didn't win anything so it wasn't a 9.5 either so 7.5 - 8 all things considered. :)

I thought we'd win a pot and finish 5th or 6th before the season started TBH I thought Wembley would cost us a lot of points over playing at MK but playing on the bigger pitch would be good prep moving into the new house so worth the sacrifice. :wtf:

Irritated we didn't win a pot, even more irritated about the Juventus game and how that competition is panning out as I'd've fancied us to win the thing as mad as that may seem, I only feared two teams if we'd beaten Juve, Man City and Bayern. :bag:

FA cup run was just bizarre and 2nd half against UTD in the semi's really kicked my 'nads under the sofa it sucked along with VAR. :banghead: :sorry:

So some bad points we were defiantly less defensively sound than in recent seasons (although that may be an illusion) and it certainly felt like referees weren't giving us much or decisions we'd have got at WHL. Giving West Ham 4 points annoys me too. :cautious:

Certainly things to ponder for the Summer but all things considered it's been a decent season. (y)

P.S Does any other side get as openly talked about during punditry/commentary in respect to players leaving as Tottenham Hotspur or am I just unnecessarily sensitive? Some of it has been disgusting IMHO. :shifty:

It's an 8 or 9 but went for 9 as really the only thing that could have topped it is a trophy. And it's a lovely day and I've just had a very pleasant stroll along the canal

Like most I have gone for 8. Because:

1., 3rd is higher than probably 90% of fans and pundits predicted at the beginning of the season

2., Likewise most pundits and a good portion of our own fanbase predicted us to miss out on Champions League at the beginning of the season.

3., Despite the disappointing exit, we showed we can really compete with the top clubs in Europe, a marked improvement from last season's performance in Europe.

4., We enjoyed some memorable and impressive victories against Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea (away!), Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Whats-more, we dominated large periods of the tie against Juventus.

5., Sadly, we finish the season trophyless. That's hardly a disaster but it has become something of a monkey on our back.

1/10

I thought that Spurs would finish just outside the relegation zone, lose to Rochdale in the FA Cup, and fail to win a CL game.

Regards.

I find his Sky role fascinating....the only explanations that make any sense are a) Some form of Community Service and b) Someone senior at Sky has as big an addiction of some sort as him. Do they actually pay him for being there?

Before the season kicked off, my main concerns were:
1. CL qualification. It seemed important to open the new stadium with CL football.
2. A CL campaign we could be proud of. We had a tough group and I wanted us to prove we could qualify from it after the disappointment last time.

Honestly, I feared humiliation in the CL, a scrap with Everton and Burnley for a place in the top 6, and being bumped back down to 3rd best team in London.

So, I was pretty happy with the final league position and with how we handled ourselves in the CL group. For that I'd rate the season a decent 7 out of 10.

I'd add an extra point for actually winning the CL group and beating eventual champions (please) Real along the way, finishing 3rd rather than scraping 4th, the win over Chelsea, Kane reaching his 30, Sanchez adapting really well in his first season with us (and softening the blow if the inevitable departure of Toby), the spanking of Liverpool, and for shitting in the mouths of all the pundits who said that Wembley would ruin us.

8/10 seems fair.

I'd have loved a cup final and more CL games, but it was still a strong season. The slow start and talk of battling for 6th seems a long time ago now.

8.5/10 for me.
It was an awesome season.

10points for achieving our goal of champions league and topping our group
-1, spent alot of the season outside of the top 4. We need to learn to handle 2 matches a week
-1, matches which we just didn't turn up for (wh, wba) we could have had a go at man u
-0.5, semi-final heart break + needing all those replays
+1, playing at a rent home

I would rate city a 9.5/10, and Liverpool a 9/10 since they got into the CL finals. I know they were lucky with the draw. But they still deserve credit. United would get 8.5/10 If they win the FA cup.

it was the fact that we were in the driving seat for all 3, and in all 3 we fucked it up. it's so hard to take because I am desperate for us to win something, no one is going to remember us for being the nearly men and I'm worried we won't be able to keep our players if we don't win something soon.

Look at it this way, we have come a damn long way to be in the driving seat against those teams and cock it up ourselves. Not great but that's how much we have progressed.
