stopped watching after the 3rd goal.

I thought Liverpool were indeed better but there was still a chance for a result until Dowd gave that stupid penalty - and it was a stupid call. Thats game over and the ref has decided its game over.

When we were getting ready to bring on Townshend I thought if we are counting on Townshend to save us we need to buy another player. And of course Townshend gives it away for their third with his first touch.

hard to come up with any good ratings - their midfield sort of kicked our ass.

Rose and Capoue did well enough I suspose.

Think that Rose and Chadli were our best players, the rest meh.

I felt Rose was partially to blame for their first goal. He was stranded up the pitch and casually jogging back just like last season. But in all fairness he was decent after that.

Agree with Chadli though.

The failure wasn't Rose, it was our DM who watched a opposition midfielder run past him letting him go allowing said opposition midfielder to put in a cross assisting the goal.

Disgusted with that from an anchorman, neglecting his 1 primary duty.

I did say partially, it was by no means all his fault, but he certainly could have done better.

I think Sherwood must have put a clause in Bentalebs contract that means he can start every game.

Thought Adebayor was the best of a very indifferent bunch today. Eriksen, Capoue and Kaboul all had particular stinkers.

He put in comfortably one of the shittest performances I've seen for a while. Summed up by when he tackled Chadli just to give it straight back to Liverpool. Pathetic performance.

Lloris - Kicking was abysmal. No idea what was doing when came out & gave ball to Ballotelli. Off day. 4

Rose - Went just as thought would, wasn't worst defender in team but back to last year performances. 3

Dier - Penalty was a bit soft but naive to tough Allen. Got sussed out today and shows he isn't yet ready to be starter but young. 4

Kaboul - He's finished. Might be ok against bottom half but we need to avoid at all costs him playing against top half again. Liability and needs to be behind Chiriches and Fazio. 1

Vertonghen - Flat footed terrible performance. No organisation or leadership. Poch has to get him back to 18 months ago form. 2

Bentaleb - looked lost. No doubt talented but he's still way off being able to play against top teams. 3

Capoue - Before game he was arguably first name on sheet for a lot. Thought he had a shocking game. Completely lost the battle in middle. Slow and pedestrian. Didn't pass the ball quickly and biggest thing was his closing down was woeful. 2

Chadli - Had great chance should have scored. Other than that either anonymous or simply tidy. 3

Eriksen - Worst game I've seen him have for us. Think he's started season pretty averagely and as it stands one of main players I see struggling to adapt to style. No doubt talented but his pressing and positioning was all over the place today. Touch was off and even delivery poor. Rightly subbed. 1

Lamela - Probably our best player despite losing the ball a lot. Worked hardest out of everyone and I like fact he at least tried to get things going. Still way off 30m player but was couple of glimpses despite average day. 5

Adebayor - Had our best chance probably. He worked quite hard but link play and decision making was terrible. Due to no creativity behind him he ended trying to do on own too much. 4

Dembele - ok. Looked quite strong but game was gone and in retrospect probably should've started.

Townsend - Appalling. Cost us third goal and offered nothing other than running towards corner flag, which along with trying to shoot is all he does. Was willing to give him chance but last 3 games have shown it's not tactics it's him that's issue. We don't even play wingers, I want him sold but feel we won't.

Others; Why Paulinho wasn't on bench after arguably motm on Thursday ahead of Townsend beyond me. We had no goal threat and at least offers seeing as half time no one in box. Kane not coming on instead of Townsend baffles me. And fact Holtby, who has energy wasn't used at all leads me to think he's a goner.

Sorry it's a bit negative but no point sugar coating today. No positives.
Early days though and I still fully believe in our squad but imo we really, really need to replace Lennon or Townsend with someone who'll either offer creativity or a goal threat. I look at squad and beyond Adebayor, Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli, Paulinho and Kane we don't have that and that really concerns me.

Can anyone confirm if it was Kaboul that played Henderson onside in the build up for Liverpool's first goal and could he have stepped up?

I can certainly confirm that. Kaboul is miles behind the rest of the line and Henderson would've been offside had Kaboul been in line. There was no reason why Kaboul should've been so deep.

You can't possibly play offside in a situation like that. IMO I am disgusted that Capoue never tracked Hendersons run.

His positioning for the Moreno goal was particularly hilarious. Need rid now, fuck it.

Capoue should absolutely have tracked Henderson yes, but Kaboul is far deeper than he needed to be. Both to blame.

Lloris 5 - Poor distribution and had one of his rare occurrences (they always seem to happen against Liverpool) where he needlessly came charging out which should have resulted in a goal.

Dier 6 - I didn't think it was a penalty. Overall was ok playing alongside a shocking Kaboul and little protection ahead.
Kaboul 4 - Injuries have sadly taken their toll on him.
Vertonghen 5 - Looked nervous and never really got tight to anyone all game.
Rose 7 - Pretty solid. Can't remember him doing much wrong.

Capoue 4 - Just terrible. Didn't bother tracking Henderson and was easily turned by Allen. His lack of mobility was exposed all game and he was too slow on the ball, both in terms of speed of thought and weight of pass.
Bentaleb 6 - I didn't think he deserved to be taken off. Other than the mess up of yo clearance from one of our corners he didn't do anything terrible. Provided one of the few bits of quality ( pretty sure it was him) with the ball over the top for Adebayor.

Eriksen 4 - One of his worst games. Hasn't been good yet so far after a poor pre-season. Don't think he's suited coming in from the right, butt that doesn't excuse his poor passing today and his inability to win any sort of physical battle.
Lamela 5 - He tried. I'll give him that. He just gave the ball away a shit load.
Chadli 5 - Missed the big chance that could have changed the game. Tried to support Ade, but just wasn't involved enough.

Adebayor 5 - Again, can't fault the effort. He worked hard, but he gave away a lot, his decision making was poor and he missed a great chance. In fairness to him, the service and support was poor and he should have won us a penalty.

Townsend 3 - Just sell him already. I don't think he's ever going to be good enough to start regularly and his value is never going to be higher.
Dembele 5 - Not really the player you want to bring on when you're trailing. Didn't do anything positive, but it didn't help that Capoue decided to slow everything down to his slow pace and Lamela kept coming too deep when he came on.
Davies n/r - Only on for a short time.

Everybody was poor today!

Vertonghen is an international for Belgium and it seems that it was easy to go pass him! He was very disappointing! 4

Rose a few times was exposed again! He likes to run forward...sometimes I think he will do better as LW or LM! 4

Kaboul was very poor! Grave the ball away and defended like a headless chicken! 3

DIER in an excellent young lad but it was not a good decision to bring a player down in the box! He will learn and will still improve! 4

Lamela played extremely well last week against QPR when given time on the ball but when he is closed down, and nothing worked, he didn't really create but will learn from this about the quickness of the PL! 4

Eriksen to his standard was very poor! 4

Capoue also was just very poor and should have done better with the first goal! 4

Bentaleb is an excellent young player and is still learning and will improve but was poor today! 4

Chadli was poor...should have done better with the finish but not easy on the run! 4

Ade should sometime just shoot instead of trying to take on players. Yes he was disappointing but I felt he did try at times. 4

Lloris - nothing much he could have done for the goals but his clearance is heart in mouth and is frightening at times! The first save was outstanding! 5

Townsend is poor! If he is an England future, then the future of English football is poor! 1

DEMBELE...did try, probably my only positive and IMO should have started! 5

Davies...nothing to comment!

Well Rose was stranded up the pitch ,Vertonghen was forced out wide and Capoue didnt drop quickly enough to fill in at CB, It was inept all round really, but to place all the blame on Capoue is a little stupid.

This is controversial, but I am still not convinced with Lamela, a lot of times I have seen him up against a defender face on, and seems to run out of ideas sharpish and his way of play makes it easy for opponents to dispossess him.

In a game of many poor performances and very little end product my MotM goes to Lamela. He lost the ball and wasn't great, but he gave a shit and tried, and wanted the ball and worked his bollocks off chasing.

Slim pickings really, but he tried to take responsibility even if it didnt come off.

Too many poor performances today and too many passengers to effectively press them.

Eriksen, Kaboul and Ade were particularly horrific today. Thought Lamela tried but still had a poor game. As mentioned previously only Rose and Chadli had better than poor games.

We need to be much more dynamic in the middle of the park to dominate/ control games. Our movement was back to the dark days of last season as well.
