Not bothering with a MOTM poll, too many players and most only played a half. Thread is more for ratings and player discussion based on the Seattle friendly.

Friedel - 6.5
- Not at fault on the goals and made some important saves in the first half. Poor distribution though.
Naughton - 5 - Not one of his better games.
Dawson - 4 - Mixed thoughts, he actually defended 1v1 very well against Martins, but he gave the ball away cheaply, gave away a pen, and in general the defense was very easily breached with him and Fryers.
Fryers - 4.5 CB, 5.5 LB - Didn't do well with Dawson in defense but improved a bit at LB.
Rose - 6.5 - Maybe our best player today, saved us on more than one occasion and was going up/down the line with regularity.
Carroll - 4.5 - Asked for the ball a lot and showed himself a lot, but didn't really do anything with the ball and the midfield seemed a bit disorganized.
Capoue - 5.5 - Seemed very involved in breaking up play and distributing but touch was all over the place and also gave the ball away a couple times. Roamed a bit too much considering he's supposed to be the deepest midfielder.
Holtby - 5.5 - Ran a lot, pressure, had a nice goal, but like the other 2 CMs, didn't really do much with the ball.
Lennon - 4 - Just didn't do anything. Tracked Yedlin well when he had to I suppose.
Townsend - 4.5 - Nothing was happening for him, but at least he tried a couple things.
Kane - 5 - Did well when he got the ball, but was not very involved in the play. Great ball to Holtby.

Fredericks - 4.5 - Not a particularly good showing, didn't get forward much, wasn't that good in defense.
Kaboul - 6 - Defense seemed much more solid when he came in, however either he or Veljkovic were at fault on the third goal, probably Kaboul for stepping up like that.
Veljkovic - 5.5 - Not bad but didn't seem to be that involved. Like I said though, the defense was much more settled with Kaboul/Milos than Dawson/Fryers.
Lamela - 5.5 - Got on the ball a lot more than the other wingers and the passing was fine but still lacking a bit of flair and cutting edge in my book. Also seemed to be a bit scared when going into challenges (which is maybe fair as its just preseason).
Ceballos - 6.5 - Changed the game a bit, very good on the ball, smart runs, intelligent passing. Good showing, he seems to understand the system Poch wants (which is maybe no surprise considering he came up at Barca and the Poch - Bielsa - Guardiola connection).
Soldado - 6 - Won a pen, scored a pen, good holdup play and nice touches. Want to see him involved a bit more though.
Mason - 4.5 - Not a great showing either, didn't get/do much with the ball and seemed to foul a lot.
Falque - 6 - Pretty good cameo, played a lot like Ceballos - good movement and passing, seems to understand the system. Scored/won a pen as well.

I'm going to do a shortened version.

Lennon.. time to go son, seriously anonymous.

Townsend and Dawson.. Toilet, wouldnt be sad to see them go.

I thought Ceballos did some nice things, Carrol, Holtby and Capoue tried to play football but looked rusty and unsure.

Was good to see Lamela and some of the younger players get a run.

^ I don't see why everyone is so eager to sell Rose. He played well today for starters (a good sign), and I don't see why Lamela, Soldado, Chadli, Paulinho, etc all need and deserve "second chances" under Pochettino. Let's not forget that Rose is the only one who has shown himself capable before in this division (Sunderland loan). I think he is a player that could benefit massively from proper coaching, because the physical attributes are there and he's not that bad technically either. I'm a massive fan of Soldado but I don't think it's fair to Rose in the slightest to say Soldado deserves another season and that Rose has to be sold.

Let's also not forget that he is one of the few club trained players we have that can actually play at the top level, we have to hit a quota of those too. Furthermore he adds to our HG ranks, and we don't exactly have much cover for him. Fryers hasn't shown too much yet, I don't know what is up with Benny, and we don't have Davies yet. Even if we do get Davies I'd much rather we had two young talented homegrown LBs fighting for the starting spot. That motivation could push Rose further as well and keep both honest.

I'm going to avoid the negatives (Dawson, Fryers (at CB), Naughton, Lennon and Townsend) and focus on some positives:

- Holtby: Did he give the ball away more than I would like? Yeah, he did. But he did a great job of breaking up multiple possessions, he found players in good spaces and he did a nice job of mixing showing for the ball deep in our own half to maintain some possession and also get forward. The goal was nice and all, but the all-action, yet controlled game was what impressed me most. He didn't look like a try-hard player with no purpose other than to hassle the shit out of opponents. More of this and he definitely is a valuable player for us this season.

- Kane: I thought he did some really nice things on the ball, including holding it up when the pressure from the Sounders was suffocating our midfield into deeper positions. It's really hard to say how good he might have been today had there not been two useless players supporting him in attack (Lennon/Townsend). Felt the ball to Holtby was top class. If Kane can put together a nice preseason by building off this performance, perhaps striker really isn't that big of a need.

- Rose: He gets his shit around here (and rightfully so), but on the whole he was pretty decent today. He was the only starting defender that came out of the first half without looking like he should be sold for whatever we can get. Made some quality challenges, but did have a couple occasions where he was caught out of position. It wouldn't be such a big deal had he not been on the same side of the pitch as a still relatively inexperienced Fryers, but he was, and it continues to plague him.

- Falque/Ceballos: I personally felt that these two were awesome in the 2nd half. Brought some nice moments in attack, showed for the ball consistently, looked composed on the ball and if it weren't for a couple of poor first touches by Ceballos I might have thought he was the best player on the day. Perhaps these two are ready for a bigger role for us this season. Both showed some nice ability to play through the middle and out wide, so if they can provide versatility and some creativity to positions that we could use it at, maybe we should think longer about holding on to them to see what they can bring to the table.

- Soldado: I loved the passion today. I think we could be starting to see the Valencia striker we all wanted, with the creative movement, solid quick-touch passing to spark attacks and if we can get him confident in his finishing, it could be a special year not only for Soldado but for our club. In my opinion, we desperately need him and Lamela to click and for Eriksen to carry over his great debut year for us to have a campaign that will leave us incredibly satisfied.

While I don't doubt the inefficiency of the usual suspects, one cannot jump on the bandwagon yet as it is just the first pre season. Players come into their own through the games. That being said, I think Dawson is a bit slow for MoPo, and the game play improved in general in the second half.

Ceballos looked like Poch has found his Lallana. Hope he continues in this manner.

Eriksen + Ceballos + Lamela + Holtby + Carroll + Falque + Siggurdson

If Poch can make 2 or 3 of those click, we could actually end up with an exquisitely creative side this season. They all have potential to turn into world class (Eriksen and Lamela may already be), will be tough to get rid of any of them this season.

1st preseason friendly all the players looked a little rusty and a crap pitch.
Some good movement and link up play.
Glad all the players got a run out, looking forward to the next match.
One bug bear only, I wanted to see Eriksen, Lamela and Holtby on the pitch together.
