How are you quantifying it then?
I was at work last night and didn't see it live.
When I got in and read the match thread, it sounded like Lamela had lost the ball or given away possession 50% of the time.
so I decided to watch the game and see if it was that bad.
First half he gave it away 3 times and one of them times a fiorentina player touched the ball before it got to Eriksen.
Does that count as giving the ball away?
Second half I fell asleep about 20 minutes in (3 o'clock in the morning)
Later I will watch the second half and update.

It was a comment on an unfortunate trend that Lamela's exhibiting...he gives the ball away an awful lot, it wasn't a comparison with his team-mates; there were plenty of others doing this last night as well, but more as an exception to recent form. He did create a decent chance, but I'm not sure that precludes him from criticism (you could argue that it was more soldado's run, but we'll save that for another thread).
Sorry if you said this 4 months ago I might have agreed.
Just lately his ball retention is a lot better.

So saying "I can confirm he did not give the ball away as much as his teammates" was a lie?

Advice, don't EVER read the match thread. Ever.

Based on what I saw in the first half no it wasn't a lie.
Do you know any different?
And I agree about the match thread.

I thought he lost the ball a fair chunk and to be honest it is a criticism I have of him. It doesn't always need to be turned into a "but so-and-so" gave it away more.

Putting the blame at the feet of soldado and fazio is all well and goid but verts error was every bit as bad and maybe even worse. Maybe in begium there is no phrase of "if in doubt, kick it out"

thats fair enough. the truth is, after Fiorentina went ahead I began fast-forwarding through the game and watched the last 35 minutes in about 5 minutes.

Actually that's incorrect, I can confirm he did not give the ball away as much as his team mates.
Plus he created our only decent chance.

Should we hold the ratings thread after every game until you can get back from work.
Then you can count everytime he actually does something constuctive with the ball or makes another of his stunning tackles.
The rest of us are obviously not worthy enough to make those important decisions.
Try not to fall asleep in the second half as it will kind of hold everything up though.

I will certainly try my best to stay awake.
Posting knee jerk reactions after defeats always makes you look like a jerk.
Emotions can cloud judgment and decieve the eyes.
Cold light of day analysis is best in these situations.
Try it you might like it.
Is there a time limit on threads now days?
Sorry I didn't get that memo.
Never mind old boy I will certainly try to keep up in future.

I think you need to start adjusting to the day when you will have to remove the giant poster of Erik from your bedroom wall.

10.........No qualified applicants.
9...........See above
8...........See above above
7...........Bentaleb, Eriksen,Lloris
6...........Vertonghen despite cock up, Lamela, Stambouli, Chiriches, Davies
5...........Fazio including cock up, Chadli
4...........Soldado. Sorry to say.

Pochettino..
.Not sure he got clear in his mind the dilemma of two important games in 3 days.
Substitutions and new formations were odd. Mind you we can't blame him for the three glaring cock ups which changed and lost the game.Win on Sunday and all is forgiven.

I have just watched the game again without the emotion. and attachments that go with watching the game live.

Our first half performance was actually pretty good, but we missed a massive opportunity considering how high their defensive line was. Soldado actually made quite a few forward runs but wasn't picked out, and on the two occasions he was he didn't have the pace to tae full advantage - although the Eriksen penalty appeal came from such a run (eventually).

Eriksen was running the game first half, and I liked the fact that Jan fired the ball into him a few times which got us into some good attacking positions - that needs to happen more often.

Lamela was busy and threatened to have a really good game (but ultimately didn't), whilst Bentaleb seemed in complete control alongside Stambouli. You would have to say the rest were OK at best. Chiriches got in a lot of great and advanced positions but unfortunately only managed one worthwhile (actually outstanding) cross and looked his usual worrying self defensively.

I am not sure anybody can defend Soldado, but Chadli could and should have made the situation a lot easier for him. Indeed, Soldado offered more than Chadli. His form since his sabbatical (or Fathers death) is a huge concern, because prior to that he was one of our better players - we are now considering starting Townsend ahead of him...

The defensive mistakes were punished second half, but we were equally careless first half too. Only Gomez's lack of pace and Salah's technical ineptness prevented them scoring earlier.

At half time, I was thinking the team talk for Poch would have been really straightforward - similar to last week actually - continue in the same way, but they will improve. They have to.

And they did. The second half was a calamity from start to finish, a performance only matched by the officials who were horrific throughout.

There were no positives second half whatsoever. Our two central defenders provided what have to be considered now as characteristic errors, and yet again Poch's substitutions and change of tactics have contributed nothing to the team.

Kane can't play in this number 10 role, I am not sure where the idea even came from that he can - does anybody else? Him playing there also comes at the expense of our best number 10 and then there is the obvious fact that Kane is our best centre forward!

Overall, my frustration comes in the fact that we have departed another cup competition to a bang average team. We have lost to far too many poor teams this season.
