That was just an awful, lacklustre preformance, no pressing, poor passing and zero creativity, Kane and Eriksen were poor, but Walker, Davies, Ade and Townsend were atrocious. Erase that game from memory and move on.

Vorm - 6 nothing to do all game.

Walker - 6.5 i dont get why people are quick to say bad things about kyle. i really dont. always managed to track his man even if they had a headstart on him. his forward play was pretty meh. also he saved us with that back header at the end. caught in possession in a danger area once due to overplaying...but he wasnt the last

Dier - 7 Calm and assured as always. didnt have much to do, had our 2 best chances in the game with his headers. I wonder who's taller, him or Fazio?

Verts - 7.5 Nice assist, good play all round. I rate him, he looks happy again. Also glad he had the armband after ade came off

Davies - 6.5 caught in possession a few times, attacking wise he's no rose but i feel assured in him defensively.

Mason - 6 was basically mason, lots of fight but he's just coming back from injury and is a bit sloppy with his passing still but at least he tries his best. Love him.

Stambo - 7 He's like a dembele that passes forward more and doesnt have the balance of his counterpart. I like watching him play, exciting.

Andros - 7 Not 7.5 because he still has poor decicion making. Good peno and whipped in some good crosses. not worth giving up on yet. he's MUCH improved from last season/beginning of this season

Eriksen - 7 was pretty good, kept things ticking over, made some interceptions, blocks, created chances, took some shots but didnt have the magic today. still a good game from him

Kane - 6.5 Huffed, Puffed, worked hard and kept trying for the cause, was hard for him today with the packed midfield/defense so im not blaming him whatsoever.

Adebayor - 6 I could actually see he was trying to close the ball down and tackle. I respect that. good on him for trying but he missed our best chance of the game, other than that didnt really do much.

SUBS:

Dembele - 6.5
I want moussa to try the ambitious pass sometimes. PLEASE moussa, you're great at holding the ball up, make use of the space you get and dont let them recover...PLEASE. so frustrating

Soldado - 7.2 doesnt deserve a 7.5 but he kept trying, closed down, won back the ball and that was a REALLY good first touch to win the peno. My faith is waning but i'll always want him to come good. VIVA SOLDADO!!!!!

Paulinho - 6
not much wrong. did ok. I hope charlie adam gets raped by a pack of mastiffs in heat.

Complete crap performance all round. Verts the only player who could be happy with their nights work.

Rather than just rate and slate players though, how about we rate the manager?

We only have one way of playing. When that works, say one game in four, we get a decent performance.

When it doesn't (which tbh is more often than not) we have absolutely no idea how to do anything to change it or affect the game.

That I'm afraid is purely down to the manager and this strict adherence at all times to "the philosophy".

It's not enough to just raise fitness levels to allow us to build pressure in the last 15 mins (although it's a good quality to have). We need to see some coherent play, converting possession into actually hurting the opposition, without just relying on Kane or Eriksen to hit one from outside the box.

Yes we're still in the cups and amongst the chasing pack for 4th but performances have generally been poor this season.

Dier for me. Really making a good effort to stake his place.

Everyone else was a bit 'meh'. Always confused by the people that say Soldado doesn't do much, or saying he was 'anonymous'. In the 30 mins or less he was on, I saw him chasing the ball down, pressing, getting into the right areas to try and open them up and he had plenty of touches. The team didn't seem to synchronised with their play though, some missed passes and crossed wires.

Leggy performance - third game in 8 days - and looked like it.

We won though - and we didn't look like conceding (really).

Fantastic result. Earlier in the season we were losing to bus parkers -now we are winning. 4 home wins in a row scoring 12 goals-it's all about Andros.
MoPo 10/10 for selections and subs. I agreed with the opening line up and all the subs. All guys subbed not 100% match fit. Big up to Soldado for winning the penalty.
No player played as well as they can but I ain't bovvered. We still were well on top. Thought Stam was great in his role. Verts was superb. Dier looked capable. Walker was more than alright. Davies had a difficult customer to deal with.
I am pleased. They HAVE to score at their gaff. We DEFINITELY will score. They will not score twice.
WE ARE IN THE FINAL !!!!!!!!!!

One of those nights where I don't think anyone came out with any credit really, particularly Poch. From a tactical perspective I was totally unimpressed, bored even.

The starting line-up I had concerns about... I mentioned in the match thread before game how I hoped that we lined up in a 4-4-2 and had two targets up front playing up against their centre backs and give them something to think about. Make the pitch big, work overlaps and get the ball in the box. I also would have picked Rose, in order to provide some width and impetus on the left, to take the game to them.

Instead, we got as I feared. 4-2-3-1, a load of players in the middle third, a lot of possession in front of their defensive structure, no runners, one isolated target to hit... All equals zero threat. We made things far too easy for them and played right as they wanted us to.

What was then annoying was that we continued to play the same slow, unimaginative football throughout, in the same shape, and with the same results. Nothing. No tempo, no width, no one making runs, we just passed and passed and passed and went nowhere. We had Kane stuck out left and/or very deep, and Eriksen playing alongside the central midfielders. We didn't get near their goal half the time.

It would have been nice for once to see us adapt and try to take the game to them. We were crying out for width, or at least to try it out - if we couldn't go through them we may as well have tried to go around them, but it didn't come, we were crying out to get men in the box to compliment this and actually make them do some defending, it didn't happen.

At half time, I would have changed to a 4-4-2:

Vorm
Defence
Lennon Stambo Eriksen Andros
Kane Adebayor
As the game went on and we still didn't look like doing anything, and they left one up and couldn't get the ball off us I would have been even braver with a 3-3-4:

Dier Vertonghen Davies
Stambouli Dembele
Eriksen
Lennon Adebayor Kane Townsend
Many will disagree, but for me I want to see more urgency and adaptability and take some risks if we are up against a stubborn opposition. Try something different rather than continuously playing the same way with the handbrake on. We aren't good enough to try and play through teams, but we keep banging our heads against the brick wall. We need to make more use of width, if that's where the space is, and we really do need to get more men in the box and willing to make runs ahead of the ball.

Or we could just stick rigidly to the 4-2-3-1 for every minute of every game...

**********************************************

As for ratings, cant be bothered - I'll just say that I thought the vast majority were below average. The two most encouraging performances probably being our centre backs, especially Dier once again.

Starting line-up hardly filled me with excitement. Ade and Kane both starting was an error IMO. It's now going to have to be a strong team for the 2ng leg.

I thought Stambouli was good and Andros was probably our most dangerous attacking outlet again (which is scary!).

Bring on another two cup games.

Between Stambouli, Dier and Townsend. Give it to Stambouli - worked hard and got stuck in against a fairly physical side. Knows how to be a DM which we need.

What I will say for andros, though, is he was progressive and occupied 2/3 players at times when he pushed forward.

Deserves a bit of credit as eriksen took a wee dump tonight and kane wasn't on song and Andros took up a lot of the slack for us and sought to drive our game. He's still a pea-brain in footballing terms as he proudly displayed at times, but he did turn up.

And decent sized balls for taking/scoring the pen in the context tbf.

I'll give Townsend credit for taking and scoring the pen but stepover, cruyff turn, sprint, lose ball, rinse and repeat is wearing thin now.

Vorm - 6

Walker - 4
Dier - 7
Vertonghen - 6.5
Davies - 3.5

Stambouli - 6
Mason - 3.5

Eriksen - 4
Kane - 4
Townsend - 5.5

Adebayor - 3.5

Subs:

Soldado - 5.5
Dembele - 5.5
Paulinho - 6

Thought Pochettino got things wrong today. I've no idea why after Kane was flying at number 9 he's decided to change it and put two blunt strikers into starting 11. Also means Eriksen (our most talented player) is back to left side where he drifts in leaving gaps. It's lop sided and praying he goes back to Kane 9, Eriksen 10. Both though had poor games in terms of touch, passing and involvement ignoring that.
I'd say Mason was rusty but seen him play like that a number of times. I'm yet to be sold on him.
Our full backs had an absolute nightmare, Davies in particular. Rose is by a distance first choice currently.

Absolutely. I was done with him a long time ago and we should sell, no doubt. But I appreciated his drive tonight.

I was confused by your post. I tried to express my feelings thorough a GIF. If you're offended by that, I have no idea what you're not offended by.
I am not offended. If you are confused-I am not surprised. I can answer any of your questions.

Edit: My apologies to other posters.

Sorry you've taken it too far now. The words "I am not suprised" are full of hate and I feel strongly urged to neg you due to that disgusting and vile comment.

If this the thought process you go through whenever you read one of my posts? If it isn't, explain what is the thought process.
