Some of the low marks awarded and unfavourable comments towards Walker are over the top imo having watched the game again.

Hoddles assessment of our midfield pairing was baffling I thought a bigger problem was the pairing between Kane and Adebayor we needed Ade to make more curved and forward runs to give our midfield options.

Hoddle called for Dembele and he just went sideways.
I thought the obvious problem was Walker and Townsend taking up the same spaces and getting in each others space. With walker i'd rather have an eriksen or lamela or even lennon that floats inside and gets out of walkers way

I watched the game again last night on TV having been at the game on the night.

Some reflections:

I was wrong bout Mason. He wasn't awful. He was actually OK. Put a lot of effort in. The problem was when he tried anything slightly difficult he invariably got it wrong. Over hit, misplaced etc. This happened probably a dozen times and created the feeling on the night that he was having a bit of a stinker.

I do think he has to improve this part of his game. The effort's there, the intent, he's just not not quite delivering in crucial moments or that killer ball. And he's tearing around a bit willy nilly at times and burning himself out.

Dier looks hugely promising.
