What encouraged you about that performance ? Genuine question.

First, the result. Arsenal are regular top four finishers, so getting at least a point at their ground in a highly charged atmosphere is always a good thing.

Second, their lack of clear-cut chances. I've seen us bombarded under AVB and Sherwood at Old Trafford, and against Liverpool when we were 2-1 up, and this certainly wasn't on a par with those games. I'm aware that we actually won all those matches, but in all those games we sat back and suffered wave upon wave of opportunities. Generally we kept out shape better and I was hardly biting my nails in the final 10 minutes.

Third, I was pleased at the way we got back on the front foot in the first half.

Fourth, I was pleased with Pochettino's courage in playing Mason, and his application of common sense in dropping Chiriches.

Like I said, it wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. Ultimately it's encouraging because I'm hopeful that the longer Pochettino has to work with these players, the more efficient we'll become. As you may be aware, I was not exactly enthusiastic about Pochettino taking over, but at this stage we're still a work in progress, and as someone who thought we'd get tanked, I was encouraged.

See this is where you are inconsistent IMO. You don't think Liverpool are all that, despite coming to WHL, being very compact, and putting into place an almost perfect game plan. They defended better than we did, and created more than we did and won 3-0.

But you want to say ours was a good performance doing a much less cohesive job, allowing more danger close and in our box and creating much much fewer chances ourselves.

The difference in this two performances was that Liverpool were much much more coordinated, cohesive and disciplined. How an earth that is deemed not all that, but ours a good performance I can't rationalise at all.

For the record, I said at the time I don't think Liverpool were as good as everyone said (very slick at each end and well drilled), but that we were better than most said. But their performance at WHL was better than ours saturday, that's for sure.

I thought 3-0 flattered them. As it looked a hammering to many outsiders, that's what I'm getting at ie like what they did last season to us, which impressed me more.

I wasn't saying they were poor and fluked it, clearly not. They certainly deserved to win the game. I'm just saying that I think we made it easier for them.

There's nothing inconsistent about that, so lets not twist what's being said.

I thought our last ditch defending was good.

Agree with this especially after we scored because we hardly got out of our half. You have to admire the defensive fortitude of our back 5 after we scored but it was horrible viewing and not something I think any manager would want to encourage or have as part of his plan. Arsenal were pretty inept once they got to our box but a better side would've created more and scored more.

Jose sometimes plays the sit and soak it up style away at tough places (Liverpool last season) but he doesn't suffer some of the tardy bollocks we saw from some of our forward players - everyone works hard, knows their roles and does a job of making it difficult. Why the likes of Eriksen think it's ok to be flaky off the ball is beyond me. This shit should be drilled into them at a young age or at least the idea and concept. If more talented players like Silva and Hazard can do it so can Eriksen and co. We'll be better by Xmas but it shouldn't take that long. It's not new to them especially after playing under AVB. For some it's an attitude issue and I can see some being shipped out if they dont shape up. I want to see the manager backed this time, not talented players with a lazy attitude.
