It’s worrying how people find any reason to rip into Sissoko yet the biggest cock up throughout the game has to be Hugo Lloris. I blame Lloris more for Messi 2nd goal too

Why not blaming Sanchez for the second goal? He gave possession away in our own side of the field, allowing Barca to pressure us against our goal line.

How about we just stop looking for scapegoats, that's all we ever do.

Win as a team, lose as a team.

Well, someone (presumably one of his drinking buddies) voted him man of the match.

Special mentions for:
Winks was incredibly good in the second half --- remember how few games he has started in the last 9 months or so....needs to be managed fitness wise
Lamela - top game and 100% agree with Poch he needs to be managed because he is so valuable.
Kane - looked good both dropping back and playing some super passes and good forward play
Toby - tough game with players around him being struck by nerves/ poor form or lack of match practice

The biggest miss of the night was probably Verts...of course Eriksen and Alli would have been useful but wasn't to be

One moderate silver lining:

  • Our next two matches are psv home and away, we should win both.
  • Inters next two matches are Barca home and away, they should lose both
  • If the above transpires, then our game v them is essentially a cup final for 2nd place. We beat them by any score better than 2-1, I.e. to go ahead on the head to head, and we qualify in 2nd regardless of matchay 6.

I am hopeful.

Let's just take it one game at a time. PSV are actually a good team and they gave a lot of problems to both Barcelona and Inter.

Not just that, but Inter just need 1 point from Barcelona and it's over. I can see that happening at the San Siro. I am usually optimistic, but hard to be at this time.

Looking again at the 4th goal the managers tactics have to be questioned , a couple of minutes left and we are trying to play out from the back with four Barca players on the edge of our box . It might go against principles and philosophy but surely the ball has to launched as far downfield as possible by Lloris we had Llorente there a flick to set up an attack is always the possibility . Just watch Man City how they are not frightened launch a route one attack.

Just feel sorry for those who have pre-booked flights to Barcelona , odds on we will be fighting for 3rd place and Europa League.

I said exactly this earlier in the thread. Launch it up field with players pushing up to challenge for the 2nd ball and we could have caused them problems. Instead we get caught fucking about 10 yards from our own goal and concede. it drives me nuts sometimes.

Apologies for missing your earlier message. In retrospect having Hugo back was a liability from the 2nd minute when he came rushing out and 2 minutes from the end when as captain he should have ignored tactics and got the ball upfield as quickly as possible.
Sissoko is going to get the blame for the last goal , personally I do not blame him he was put in a poor situation , we know his first touch can be poor, the blame is squarely on Lloris.

Really sad thing is about that goal is it's pretty much a carbon copy of the last minute winner we conceded to Chelsea last season. you'd think we might have learned from that.

You can’t blame Pochettino for everything, the players have to take responsibility, the same way players like Messi takes responsibilities. Lloris was awfully pooor he is the captain a World Cup winner I expected better leadership from him

They play PSV as well. Still glass half full until the fat lady sings.

Yes but my point being, if by the time they play psv and we play barca in the final round of fixtures, and we are 3 points ahead with a better head to head (.e. They lose twice to Barca, we beat psv two and then we beat inter better than they beat us), then that final fixture is irrelevant. They could wallop psv 8-0 and we get murdered by Barca, finishing level on points with an inferior goal difference, and still get second.

All this depends on us winning the next two games and Barca beating inter twice, otherwise it’s moot. If that happens, the return fixture v inter is basically a cup final.

Well , this blows all my theories about our lack of intensity ...out of the water .

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45757516

Its about Man Utd's efforts...but scroll down and there are 2 Opta tables where we are top .This season too.

1. How far teams allow opponents to advance with the ball .
2. Average no of passes team allows opponents before ending the move

I hope that we have our key players back for the return game. Playing without Eriksen, Alli and Dembele was like Barca without Busquets, Rakitic and Coutinho. We can manage one or two key players out but all these plus Verts made it so hard when the alterbatives are Wanyama, Sissoko and Llorente none of whom are good enough even for our squad
