Still can't wrap my head round that Lloris 1st goal blunder.. Normally he does that when the defence gets taken out by a straight ball over the top and he's the last line of defence.. Tonight, Alba still had a lot to do after Messi fed him.. For a top class keeper, his brain farts occur far too often.

Lamela head and shoulders our best player

Great goal from Harry. A lot of glimpses of the real Harry Kane tonight

Really good last 30 mins from Winks

So disappointed with Son and Moura although the latter did threaten very late on

Tripps struggles all evening with their pace and movement

Davies pretty much the same as KT but plays 30/40 yards further back for the most part at is left with oceans of space by the opposition because he poses zero threat

Fucking monstrous shit **** ground. We need to get back home ASAP

Even the tannoy system is so rubbish the only people you can hear properly at half time are Gazza & Ozzie

Can get quite noisy occasionally due to the fact that there are over 80k people there but zero atmosphere

In a moment of weakness I purchased Man City tickets too but I’ll sell them on

Point blank refuse to go back to that football cemetery

To be fair we wernt bad at all but Kane is arguably the best centre forward in the world but also our best midfielder at the moment and that needs to stop.

All in all i thought we done well but fuck me do Barca play football....

Lamela my MOTM.

Hugo 0 (was more of a hindrance than a help tonight, hard to even justify giving him a point)

Trippier 4 (way too much space particularly 1st half)
Sanchez 3 (cost us the 2nd goal and pretty shit throughout, not fit to lace Verts boots at moment)
Alderweireld 7 (saved our asses a couple of times but he's not superman so with the other 4 shit shows we had at the back fortunate to only concede 4)
Davies 5 (defensively done better than the other 3 muppets but pathetic as usual going forward)

Winks 5 (2 for a crap 1st half, 8 for turning up 2nd half at least)
Wanyama 4 (constantly late in the tackle, would have seen red tonight with that shit show ref had he stayed on)

Son 3 (little came off for him tonight, easily worst of our attacking players)
Lamela 9 (love not only this guys ability but also his effort, drags others with him, wouldn't have looked out of place in the other team tonight)
Lucas 7 (great effort tonight but things never quite came off for him)

Kane 8 [thought he done much better than in recent performances so signs are good he's coming good again

How some of you are condemning our performance astounds me. Far more good than bad from us, but Barcelona played brilliantly and Messi was at peak performance. We didn’t allow Messi space, he took it. No side would have lived with them tonight, but we fought, we scored twice with the first bring an incredible move, and at 2-3 we had them very rattled. I’m proud of most of our players tonight and I applaud the manager for taking the game to Barca rather than playing negative defensive football. The outcome would’ve been the same but with far less enjoyment, this was one of the best games of football I’ve attended in a very long time.

The difference between us and them was the greatest player of all time,

Lloris guilty of another huge error in w big game. I sit in line with the edge of that area and I was astounded by his stupidity.

Trippier took a few dangerous set pieces and overall linked well with Lucas but he was exposed defensively,

Sanchez was atrocious, error prone, naive. Very disappointing.

Alderweireld made some great blocks and tackles. otherwise steady.

Davies actually gave us decent width and wasn’t overly exposed defensively. Some nice cutting passes too.

Wanyama looks a player who’s card is up. So many poor choices and delayed reactions.

Winks was awful for the most part but grew into it and with Dier next to him actually began using space well and playing some lovely passes.

Lucas was busy, worked hard, gave us unpredictability and showed lovely skill on a few occasions. Final execution lacking though.

Lamela was wonderful, made Harry’s goal, scored one, great fight and pressing and mainly positive, aggressive passing. Hope he’s not injured.

Son was dreadful, looked sluggish, unimaginative and clumsy.

Kane held the ball up well, played some outrageous passes, scored a beautiful goal and his never say die attitude was key in the build up to our second. Happy with him.

Today I witnessed a wonderful football match. There are worse ways to lose.

We were not as crap as most were making out in the Match Thread melt down. We have played worse this season and have won (Manu for example). I think conceding the early goal threw a spanner in our game plan

The ref was consistently bad IMO so it evened it self out

Lamela my MOTM

Sissoko :(

I agree that ref was bad and Lamela MOM but that's about it . It felt like a piss take. sloppy passes by us and shown the way to play by Barca.

Lamela though was a man possessed..

Messi gave an extraordinary performance like a player moving chess pieces around the board he was in total control. Little effort but maximum effect.so unlike our football which is all effort and little effect.

First half we just did not turn up, no player did themselves justice. In the second half we tried to play, were brave and had a proper go. For. Neutral that made it a great game of football and for us at least left me feeling as though we showed something of what we are capable of even with several of our very best players missing.

Kane and Lamela were superb in the second half and Winks ran the show for most of the last half an hour. Lamela edges the MOTM for me.

Wanyama is just a big unit too slow in though and movement. Barca ran rings around him which made me sorry for Winks left hung out to dry. Wanyama might be OK in the Carabao or whatever the cup is called but is not any where near the level needed for this quality of football. And don't get me started on Sissoko or Llorente. had Lamela been able to stay on we might just have nicked something out of the game. A good second half but all too late as once again we started like a team who are just waiting to react to the opposition rather than trying to make them adjust for us.

A disappointing night yet in the second half we played some of our best football this season and Harry looks back to his best ... oh and the other Harry perhaps is beginning to rediscover his game

I have to give it to Lamela 8. He played without fear and ran himself into the ground. Nice to see Kane 7.5 back into it and Lucas 7 still putting his heart into it. A mixed bunch 4's, 5's and 6's for the rest.

We met Messi and Co under a difficult set of circumstances. An out of whack side playing well below par, the post WC hangover and injuries to key players. On another day it would have been closer.

A poor first half with some awful decision making by some players but a much improved second half where we played well chasing the game. Disappointed with Lloris, This was not a game for his reintroduction to the team. He was not ready. Gazza would have been better and the lad did not deserve benching.

Well, 4 games to salvage a place in the next round. Its not impossible. COYS!

Wanyama was dog. The cause of the third goal as well if you watch it back. It was just after he was running around headlessly trying to make tackles and making fouls when already on a yellow. He would have been sent off for one more foul. He wasn't able to make any more challenges and was ambling around like a muppet and let's Messi have a free run into our box. Dier was much better when he came on. Gave us some actual calmness in midfield and moved the ball far quicker.

Lamela was great. Really happy to see him prove me wrong about him. Lit the touchpaper for us and dragged us back into it.

Kane is looking more and more like his old self. Heavily involved in almost everything good we did in the second half. Hope he misses the international break but I can't see it.

Sanchez was one of the worst I thought. He doesn't look confident playing the ball out from the back at all. He looks nervous and lacks composure. I'm sure with time it will come but he almost cost us a couple of times with lazy crap back passes to Lloris when it was 2-3.

Winks second half was more like the Winks we saw before his injury. Even better was his battling for the ball and winning it back.

Glad the international break is coming. Hopefully our injured players are left out of their squad and we start pulling more players out as we can't afford any more injuries.

Firstly Barca are on a different planet., and unfortunately for us the big teams take us seriously and most turn up against us and sadly we are nowhere near the top top sides level. Our best chance is when the likes of Barca.City etc don't rate us and turn up half hearted, this doesn't happen and unfortunately we rarely keep up to our billing against the cream.

Could have been a real bad scoreline, luckily for us we rode our luck ,hang in there and in the end showed alot of character and guts and kept the scoreline respectable and could have even nicked an unlikely draw.

Messi omg

Winks is going to be a star, alot of harsh comments about Vic, he is not match fit and was up against the very best with Barca bang on it.
Kane is almost back to his best .

He merely did what I’ve seem him do several hundred times before. We could have stuck a man marker on him, hell we could have stuck three on him, and he’d have had just as much freedom. It’s Messi, it’s what he does, it’s why he is the best of all time. I’ve been waiting his whole career to watch him live and he did not disappoint. If you actually watch him when he doesn’t have the ball, everything he does to find space is so calculated, so clinical. In the mood he was in last night we’d have needed a nuke to stop him.

As I've said many times before a fit Lamela plays every time in my starting 11.

Kane needs a rest hahaha he was sharpe and quick.

Lloris always finds a way to make a fool of himself in big games he was poor imo and contributed to the score line.

Winks showed for 20mins his potential and we really need to see more.

In all we lost the a better team .

Lloris - 5 - Stupid mistake pretty much cost us the match in the 2nd minute as we then had to play into Barca's hands. Nearly dropped another clanger near the end. On this form Gazzinga should start at the weekend.
Trippier - 6 - Some good balls to feed the forwards.
Alderreiweld - 6 - Solid'ish game - must be confused how we let in 4.
Sanchez - 5 - A few loose balls.
Davies - 5 - Offers little going forwards. Rose must be our first choice now.
Wanyama - 6 - Signs he is getting back to full fitness, now needs games as his touch and confidence in possession is not there right now.
Winks - 6 - Disappointing first half. Grew a little in confidence 2nd.
Lamela - 8 - Covered a lot of ground, pressed, created. MOM for me.
Moura - 6 - Always seems to have a heavy 2nd touch which loses possession. Never really got at them. BUt did work tirelessly.
Son - 6 - See Moura.
Kane - 7.5 - Another incremental improvement. At this rate we should have the old Kane back by November. Very nice goal. When he dropped deep he showed how badly we need a CM who can pick a forward pass!

Dier - 6
Llorente - 6
Sissoko - 5 - Comedy shot. Don't know what he was doing for their 4th.

Poch - 6 - Picked a team that was way too open. Not sure if he was let down by the players (particularly Lloris) or whether he got his aggressive tactics wrong. But I expect us to me much more 'street smart' in Europe after last years lesson from Juve at Wembley. We still seem open and naive which is disappointing.

Overall - 6 - We played one of the best teams in the world and one of the best players of all time, with 4 key players missing (Verts, Dembele, Eriksen, Dele). It's clear we are not within 10% of the top table at the moment. We got lucky with the scoreline (could heave been 6 or 7-1). Disappointing thing is we were too open in set up whilst not aggressive enough in possession. Hopefully a learning curve for all involved.

That’s it for me, it was fun. That may have been because I came straight from a flight back from Africa and was happy to discover that they now do beer at CL games but I really enjoyed it after the second goal and it could have been a great night had Moura scored.

I’m going to Barca Sevilla in a few weeks to hopefully see him again but to see Messi play like that was amazing.

The result flattered us let's be fair.

It could (and perhaps should) have been embarrassing. I love Poch but he seems to have a mental block when it comes to playing the very best sides (Barca, Liverpool, Man City) who theoretically employ the same high pressing tactics he does. It is even worse 'at home' when the emphasis is on us to attack.

We seem to press at times but with little conviction and then follow that up by standing off them. He doesn't want to be seen as a negative manager and I love him for that, but bearing in mind the side we were able to put out, a more conservative approach may have been the only real solution in a game like that. It could easily have been 6 or 7 if we are honest.

Individually:

Lloris 4 - Absolute brain fart killed us in less than two minutes and while he had no chance with the next two goals, the decision to pass out from the back with 4 minutes of injury time to go and Barcelona pressing the defence seemed naïve at best, idiotic at worst. Whether you are being advised to play that way or not you need to be able to manage the game and know when not to play that way. It starts looking a bit silly.

Trippier 6 - did ok I thought. Lack of pace is a major issue against the top sides but provided some decent crosses when he did manage to get forward.

Davies 5 - just do not understand how he gets in in front of Rose on current form. Rose is better at getting up and down which is needed against opponents like these. Far too conservative.

Sanchez 5 - every time I watch him against the top sides he looks like an accident waiting to happen. Appalling back pass that Lloris managed to dig him out of trouble with. Looks nervous.

Toby 6 - would have benefited from having Jan next to him, but I thought he did pretty well considering I don't get the impression he is particularly confident playing alongside Sanchez. Just my opinion.

Wanyama 5 - Looks a shadow of the player he was two years ago unfortunately. Maybe it's match fitness or fitness in general, I hope it's match fitness because it's a shame.

Winks 5 - game passed him by for 70 minutes. Could have done with having Dembele alongside him it has to be said as he wasn't getting a lot of help from Wanyama but again, looks to lack match fitness. Last 20 he suddenly came alive, more of that would be great! Would like to see him and Dembele together as I think overall they offer the most as a unit in the holding roles as such.

Son 5 - tried but looks off the pace and trying too hard. Understandable after a World Cup and the Asian Games but we need to get that sharpness back which is missing at the moment.

Lamela 7 - Was head and shoulders our best player, unfortunately the press only works when done as a unit and sometimes he can look like a bit of a headless chicken when the rest do not follow his lead. Has started to bring goals to the table as well which is encouraging, although is it just me but the way he strikes a ball when he shoots never fills me with that much confidence?? maybe it's just me, he seems to get a lot of scuffs and deflections! I do love him though.

Moura 7 - worked almost as hard as Lamela at times, never hid and tried to take the game to Barcelona, with varying degrees of success. Can sometimes lack positional discipline however.

Kane 6 - lovely finish for his goal, and seems to slowly be finding his feet after a sluggish start to the season - understandable with the amount of games he has played in the last two years. Can take an eternity to get the ball out from under his feet at times but his body strength against a side who pressure the ball for virtually 90 minutes was impressive.

Great game but some of our players just do not have the first touch or pace to worry the top teams. Not sure the missing players would have made any difference but giving away the first goal was a killer , Hackney marshes stuff from Lloris then the fourth we had possession then just squandered it.
Will wait until the next round results to see if it's worth wasting more time & money at a dump of a ground called Wembley, if we hadn't wasted so much building time on that waste of a gimmick called the Sky gantry under the North Stand roof at NWHL we might have been in by now. .

Lloris 3. Probably pissed.
Trippier 5. In a back 4 v Barca? Seriously?
Toby 7. Did OK under huge pressure.
Sanchez 6. Same as Toby but not quite as composed.
Davies. 5 OK but wasted a few opportunities going forward.
Vic 5. Tough game to come back in.
Winks 7. Overrun in first half, Not helped by Vic being knackered. Good last 30 mins.
Lucas 6. Worked hard enough but couldn't link up with HK.
Lamela 8. Ran his bollocks off and fought for everything.
Son 4. Generally poor.
Kane 7. Lovely goal but needs to stop trying to do everything.

Poch. OK but left Trippier badly exposed in a back 4 and presumably told him to push up which left oceans of space.
