The season rests on Wednesday night's match vs Newcastle
our season rested on beating palace and WBA at home. We need to target a cup this year. No chance top4 and not going down. whats the difference between 6th and 11th place. who cares. I just wanna watch the team at wembley and have a good day out.

I'm not one to criticize the players but tonight was an absolute disgrace, no passion, no will to win, no creativity, nothing close to what our club once stood for,
Only Walker and Vorm came out of this game with any credit, the rest, including Mauricio, deserve a zero rating for their performance.
The sad thing is 18 months ago we would have looked at that team and bench and creamed ourselves. One of the best strikers in La Liga, A regular starter for Brazil, The new argentinian Bale and a couple of young talented prospects. Turns out their all not very good at football. The biggest sign that levy and scouts screwed up is playing kane, benteleb and mason in front 0f £90m worth of star buys.

We weren't great but certainly weren't as bad as some are saying. First half we dominated and looked in complete control. Even bits of the second half we were decent. The problems came when poch changed the team with subs. After that we looked all over the place. I thought Dembele was Ok, kaboul looked strong in the first half, walker and rose were Ok. Stambouli was good. Townsend was awful though. I've never seen a more brainless player.

I'm just taking this season as it comes. It is clear that we need some serious quality in key positions and until that happens we might as well not get our hopes up too much!

First half was ok, there was some effort there and we had two or three pretty decent opportunities that may have been a goal if we had any other striker playing for us. However a lot of what we were doing was very familiar, sterile and static possession that didn't seem to have any purpose to it. This is acceptable (just about) if we control throughout and get out of their with a share of the spoils, however the second half was more scrappy, we then went behind, and didn't look like we had any idea about how to up the tempo, show some purpose and get ourselves back into it and after 1-0 we were definitely looking a ragged bunch.

Individually, it mostly reflects the above. Some of them had a decent/ok start to proceedings, yet as the game wore on things took a turn for the worse.

Very disappointed Poch didn't use some of the youngsters and instead decide to bore us all with some of the same ol' faces.

Vorm - Not much to do.

Walker - Some decent bits of play. One of our better performers, but was done in behind twice in 30 seconds for the goal.

Kaboul - Ok up until the build up to the goal, then completely torn a new one.

Chiriches - Couple of heart in mouth moments but ok.

Rose - For the first hour or so was probably up there with Walker for best performer, was everywhere for us even taking up positions the No.9 or 10 should be edge of the box. However then seemed to get exhausted and was stranded up pitch too much in the last 20-25 mins. I prefer his intent to Davies and think it is better for the team, and he was just back from injury, but needs to get fitter.

Stambouli - Tidy bits of play at times.

Dembele - Pretty good first half, second reverted to playing like an OAP with a hip replacement.

Paulinho - Worked pretty hard first half and showed brief glimpses of being a midfield driving force. Still not enough though.

Townsend - Needs coaching, desperately. And to watch some Arjen Robben videos 24/7 to see how you play as a left footer on the right.

Chadli - Doesn't look fit.

Soldado - Fuck off.

Subs: Wasn't much logic to them, but I liked Poch sending a message of hauling off the only (non) striker we had when we were losing. None contributed anything of note.

Pauly, Bobby and Erica when he came on, shocking

Those 3 transfers have been nothing short of a disaster. Not surprising we're struggling

When your not scoring goals the whole situation turns to shit. Currently we are in a shit situation relying on a young kid (Kane) to get us out of it which is huge pressure on his very young and inexperienced shoulders

Sell or loan out our other 2 shit strikers asap and get some fresh meat in upfront. Look at the Spammers, transformed team now because they are dangerous upfront
Wasn't everybody saying the same thing about Southampton not to long ago?
The seasons 38 games not 15.
I do agree about up front. all THREE strikers keep missing the target.
January Striker should be no.1 on the list.
We're creating just not scoring.

Except we were playing away.

We lost away to Dukla in 1961 letting in four goals to boot.

Think you mean Gornik who beat us 4-2 away (4-0 with 20 minutes to go!). We beat them 8-1 in the return; one of the trully great nights at the Lane.

We lost 1-0 away against Dukla, beating them 4-1in the return.

You just know that Sigurdsson will be hell bent on showing us what we've been missing on Sunday and with Bony bullying our gutless centre backs I can't see a positive result.. I hope I'm wrong.

My take on the game was, we controlled it until an individual error by Kaboul, we lost our way for about 5 to 10 minutes after that when they started to up the pressure, but then as we were getting back into the game again, Poch decided to kill it with his decision making from the bench.

steady on...he's only been back 15 mins...he'll fuck it up for you miserable lot in the next game for sure :D

I really rate walker. I know he's not world class or anything and he probably shouldn't be in the top 5 players in the team if we want to be challenging for titles, but at the moment he is. Whether that says how good he is or how poor the rest are currently is up to you

Yeah, an obviously talented 22 year old player who's started 15 PL games hasn't set the league alight yet, better get rid immediately instead of, I don't know, working with our highly paid coaching staff to improve the weak parts of his game.

I imagine our coaching staff have been working with him over the past 15 months. A player that is our record signing is still an expensive luxury who keeps getting caught in possession . How much longer would you say he should be given before he is expected to deliver ? 6 months ? A year ? 3 years ? The reality is he is being kept because Levy doesn't believe in taking hits on players in the transfer market and right now I doubt he could be sold for much more than 10 m. Same with Soldado by the way. Eriksen and Lloris of course can be sold for big profits and that is what is most important to Levy.

They been working to get him fit for around 8 months.
If your judging players on 15 games, then a lot of this squad won't make it.
He's played well in half those 15 games and done well in the cups.
Go and read the match ratings for this season and you will see what I mean.

Ok so you don't agree that he is too often caught in possession through over elaboration and out muscled ? My own opinion is that if he plays it almost has to be as a second striker in a 4-4-2 or as a number 10 in a 4-4-1-1. Where he has almost no defensive responsibilities but of course Poch does not believe in either of those 2 systems. He is a perfect illustration of a player totally unsuited to the current formation and the " pressing game ".
Just to repeat my question, how long would you give him to show our investment in him as our record signing was justified ? I see nothing to indicate that it was.

So many still claims he was poor vs Besiktas.....

http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014...-tottenham-star-dembele-shines-in-new-posit/?

Moussa Dembele played in an attacking midfield role for Spurs, and was a bright spark in an average display from the side.

Having left Christian Eriksen at home, Tottenham needed a replacement for the Dane against Besiktas.
They turned to a player who once played in the position regularly for former club Fulham, and revelled at being switched into what is a 'new' role for him at Tottenham.
Moussa Dembele answered Mauricio Pochettino's request to play behind striker Roberto Soldado, and while he was unable to help engineer a goal for his side in the 1-0 loss, he showed plenty of bright touches.
It has been reported by various sources that Dembele is on list of players available for a January transfer, losing his place to Ryan Mason in central midfield, and rarely playing 90 minutes - either substituted early or brought off the bench late on.
Against Besiktas he was impressive in the number 10 role, making 91 touches, completing 89 per cent of his passes. He provided two goalscoring opportunities, and still managed to track back and make three tackles.
It may not be enough to dissuade Pochettino from a sale if a big offer comes in, but the extra string to his bow shows he is viable, temporary, alternative to Eriksen if Tottenham need him.

How long do you give any players?
What do you want him to do to justify the price tag?
Me personally I would say 18 months playing time.

I will say that as bad as yesterday was, that is one of the worst pitches in all of world football (the Besiktas fans themselves acknowledge this).
