Cruise control today. Never felt we were in trouble.
Highlights for me were- Kane, what a performance. Just wow.
Alli, not a great overall performance but the guy just delivers something every game. Movement was great. Knew he'd score today. Camaraderie between him and Kane got me stiff.
Verts- Bar the slip I thought he had a great game. So pleased to see his bombing forward runs coming back into his game. When he first joined us he did them all the time.
Sloppy goal was disappointing but meh.

That's harsh. He didn't mean to slip over and that's all I remember him doing wrong. Top class performance keeping lukaku in his pocket except on that slip

Agreed, with a bit more luck he could have scored as many as Harry today.

Should if been about 4-1. Massively flattering on them which was a bit irritating, but a great win that puts us in a really good position to strengthen our chances of finishing in the top 4.

Davies was very good, Kane obviously. Jan was great until the slip.

The noticeable thing for me though was when Dembele went off. Our grip in the middle was relinquished.

Overall though we played well today against a team that came to sit deep and frustrate like most teams outside the top 6/7 do at WHL.

Some really nice combination play at times. Davies was so involved, and Vertonghen driving forward was great to see, so graceful looking when he's gliding forward like that.

Two great finishes for Harry earns him another MOTM though and was unlucky not to have another hatrick.
Agreed, 3-2 absolutely flattered them, even 3-1 would've , they had 2 shots we had about 20 and competed cominated.

Verts was outstanding, Davies great, Wanyama great and Kane was Kane.

Great assist from Winks too.

Shame about Jan's slip.

Before that it was as good a performance from him as I've seen

Won a lot of headers, heavily involved and continually driving forward whenever possible

Davies did well up against the dangerous Coleman, who was kept very quiet

Harry would just edge it for me though because of the mistake

Always thought Everton were in it though.

Was impressed with Barkley, kept going for the whole game. Must be playing for a new contract somewhere!!

Thought everyone played well, subs included. Special plaudits to Harry (of course), Busy Ben Davies and non slip, missile mode Jan. And Christian Eriksen for, as usual, acting as half the team's attacking eyes.

Thoroughly deserved to get to 2 0 up, but then fell into that awkward space between actively killing the game off, and thinking 'suits us' whilst watching it die of it's own accord. In the latter case an out of the blue goal against can make it difficult to pick up the pace again. But to our credit we managed it relatively panic free, even if the last few minutes were somewhat bizzarre.

Came on here expecting to read about a how people thought it was a good team performance but Davies was a bit shite, and then...

So I hold my hands up, I thought Davies was the weak link, I thought they let him have the ball and he more often than not messed it up. I thought he was a bit average. However you can't argue with the fact that I'm in a complete minority on here in that view, so I have to accept I'm probably wrong. Which just goes to show...

Thought Ben Davies had a very good game seems to be getting better by the week very positive
The playing time seems to be helping him grow in to the role

That said - he's still no Danny Rose

I am not a fan and I too thought he was the weak link....................but only for the first 10 or so minutes!

He grew into the game and gave the sort of performance I didn't think he was capable of in that position, playing before a back three. Good game and was not sorry to be proved wrong. I am now more comfortable for him deputizing for Rose until he can come back and fight for his place!!

With an hour gone things were going very well indeed. 2-0 up against a decent in-form team, we'd made the breakthrough(s) against a team set up to stifle and offer us no space to play.

The two goals were very different, but both enjoyable. Kane's strike was as a clean a hit as you will get from 30 odd yards, and kicked the game into life for us as we then had our best spell of the game creating our best chances. The second was an alert piece of hustle by Dembele and then Alli to win the ball back very quickly high up the pitch and put Kane in to do what he does best. Two contrasting goals but a perfect illustration that you need that mix of both skill and hard work/determination to win football matches.

Most of the hard work was done...

Most, but not all. The game wasn't quite over, we hadn't yet got over the finishing line.

There was ultimately no harm done, but hopefully it's a gentle reminder that you shouldn't think you can coast through a game in the latter stages, which I think we were guilty of. Shortly after going two up we seemed to down tools. Content to drop off, and let them have their first spells of possession of the match and almost challenging them to break us down. As ever though, it only takes a moment for a goal to be scored and it to all start to look a bit different. The opposition has belief and momentum, the crowd gets jittery, it's not easy for players to switch back on physically and particularly mentally... For me it's a dangerous game to play.

A lot of people will say it was an unfortunate slip that let them into it, but really the goal was just a lack of intensity across the park. They've got the ball in midfield, no pressure. Ball goes left, their man breezed past two, picks a pass through non-existent lines. Lukaku can take it and turn under no pressure... At this point if there hadn't been a slip, he has an untracked Barkley arriving on his right shoulder to play in one on one. It wasn't one individuals ill fortune or error, the team were punished for a drop in intensity. It also wasn't just defensively, Kane's miss at 2-1 I think was a prime example also - if not mentally relaxed then I think he just smashes that as per.

We then got both sides gifting each other a set piece goal... Not much to say here but very soft defending and left the game ending on a calamitous note.

As I said, no harm done... But a lesson not to coast and think the job is complete until the final whistle is blown.

Lloris - Not a huge amount to do.

Dier - Ok, but yet another set piece goal where he hasn't covered himself in glory.

Alderweireld - Ok, also seemed a little culpable on first watch for the last goal.

Vertonghen - Well... First half some pretty ropey passes and trying to force it a bit too much. Second half some barnstorming runs taking the game to them. Then the slip led to a goal, but as I've said that was the most obvious part of a long list of errors from us.

Walker - I'll be honest, I can't really recall much of what he did, with Walker I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. A few decent passes that he did pick out that do come to mind.

Davies - Was fine, a few nice moments. But fucking hell some of you lot are easily impressed...

Wanyama - Unlucky with his shot against the post, but I'm going to disagree with the majority again - I thought he had a pretty 'meh' game.

Dembele - Solid enough. Great alert piece of pressing for the second goal.

Eriksen - Thought he had a decent first half, but waned as the game got into the latter stages.

Alli - Lovely flick for the goal. Ok all round performance and worked pretty hard today.

Kane - After criticising him only a few weeks ago... Delighted to say that it's all falling into place currently. He's more involved in the game, hassling and bullying defenders, running channels, and the icing on the cake in smashing long-range efforts into the net. Whether it's confidence, he's injury free, or there was a kick up the backside, it doesn't matter - long may these performances continue.

Subs:
Winks - Nice pass, but it was awful defending.

Sissoko & Janssen - n/a.

Ben Davies won more tackles (5), created more chances (4) and completed more attacking-third passes (17) than any other Spurs player today.

Verts for me, some great tackles, great runs, won headers and the slip could happen to anyone

Sure most has been covered but...

Lloris's distribution was really good today think it will continue to improve as we use the current system more.

Verthongen was pure class I've really grown to appreciate him this season.

Great win great performance with some star contributions from the usual suspects, great time to be Spurs!

Can we make the next level, lift a pot and compete twice a week? Dunno, but crikey I've seen some dross down the years so I'm not complaining.

Kane MOTM - first goal was vital as they were beginning to get set. He should stop trying dink finishes though unless it's the only option. Players over 6ft often find them difficult to pull off routinely and the best exponents tend to be shorter players. He said after the match he should have put his foot through it. He's best when he finishes like Shearer - with power and/or placement.

Everyone played well but Dier's absent moments are a cause for concern.

Kane has been brilliant these past two games, he's doing more than just banging them in and that's what i've wanted to see more of all season from him. He held up the ball well and ran his socks off again today.

Really loved the performance from the lads today, a tad random but my favorite moment from the match besides the goals and pochs celebration. Was Davies absolutely flying fully committed into a tackle on Coleman at the edge of Evertons own box. So well timed, so aggressive and hungry it was a wonderful moment for a good footballer whose had a bit of a tough patch. Would really like to keep Ben as cover at lb and lcb he's a fantastic part of our squad.

I was in south lower east corner and Everton fans were so quiet, wonder if anyone else noticed.

I did have the misfortune to sit next to a few on the way back to scouse street. They probably thought they were home.

I thought Toby and Jan did really well for 80 minutes against Lukaku and then as @mpickard2087 says we let them back into it and the game changed. Two preventable goals out of nothing could have cost us two points which would have been a steal.

Other than that no real complaints, if I were really picky I'd say Kane should have been more clinical with his two other chances in either half but his first goal was excellent and reminded me of the Chelsea 5-3 game when he 'arrived'.

I continue to find Dembèlé frustrating. He is brilliant at what he does in winning the ball back, holding on to it, effortlessly gliding past players but his range of passing is relatively poor and he is shy to shoot.

Perhaps being over critical just general musings before motd2.
