Couldn’t have been described any better than from an Arsenal mania fan - ‘Haha that was totally ridiculous. He won the ball, got fouled, got pushed and then walked away immediately from the situation’

That just gives you an idea of what a fuckwit Pawson is, he fucks us over everytime, today it was let thug fc loose on us.

First half was about as bad as it gets. Across the pitch we just hadn't turned up, were getting outfought and lacked a bit of desire, and could/maybe even should have been a goal or two more down.

Second half multiple things started happening. We dialled it up a little, Fulham increasingly lost any ambition to their play and dropped and dropped giving us more territory, and ultimately they were punished for it. A bit of a smash and grab, there was some soft defending that helped with both our goals in all truth, but another example that this side has a bit of grit and determination about it and can scrap for the result, even with things stacking up against us.

Lloris - Made some good saves when needed, especially first half. Game could have been beyond us without him.

Alderweireld - First half was some of the worst stuff I have seen from him. Lost all his positional sense and made a lot of bad reads. Got a bit better as the game went on, but still not a great day at the office.

Sanchez - Probably his worst game for us. Yeah he got a bit better when Mitrovic got more interested in the handbags rather than schooling him at football, but for a good hour he was being made to look a fool.

Vertonghen - Pretty solid game. Came forward with the ball well two or three times.

Trippier - Defensively no real issues. Was shut down in attack and offered very very little.

Winks - Popped up with the winner. Even before that I thought he was up there as our best player in that game, good energy and kept us ticking over.

Eriksen - A bit subdued throughout I thought, and some abysmal set piece deliveries. Did provide the assist for the equaliser though.

Rose - Really good energy and kept providing our one real outlet. You hope one day that a bit more consistent end product will come about though.......

Lamela - Really poor game. Worked hard enough but with the ball his work was either a) pointless or b) wasteful.

Alli - Didn't think he had a good game either really. Personally I don't want him coming deep getting on the ball, what he does is slow and usually pointless. Get up in the final third into the box, that's where your talents and instinct are, boy. The one time he seemingly did, he grabbed the equaliser. He too though now looks like he is injured, so another problem to deal with.....

Llorente - What to say....... There was a close up replay of his reaction after the own goal, and you could just see it in his eyes that it basically crushed him. Personified that for the rest of the game, touch letting him down a few times, went into his shell a bit, and then his headed chance towards the end he isn't trusting instinct - tried to overthink it and was far too clever, trying to skim it into the corner, rather than just putting his head through it and powering the ball into the net. About as nightmarish a day as he could have had really, at the worst possible time.

I will say though that I saw many times in the game where a ball has been played into his feet around the box, he's back to goal pinning a defender, and our players are operating like a 30 yard exclusion zone around him..... We all know what he can, and cant, do. If you don't get men right in and around him then you have no chance of getting anything from his type of striker. We've had seasons now of Janssen/Llorente in this vein, at what point do professional footballers/coaches work it out........?

Subs:

Dier - Ok.
Nkoudou - Stood up a decent ball into the box, and look what can happen..... Maybe he should be out teaching some of our other players this trick.
Pretty much agree with every word.

Amidst all the doom and gloom of injuries and lack of transfers just stop for a second and consider this.

A Spurs team missing half the starting line-up goes a goal down to a comedy OG, loses Dele to another injury, but in the last minute of stoppage time the 8th choice forward puts in a peach of a cross which our home grown DM runs 70 yards to head home.

Think about that and tell me you don't love this team, whatever your views on how it's being run.

Probably the most important win of our season.

We drop points yesterday , with all the injuries and MU form , then we are in serious trouble, don't get me wrong, we still have a battle ahead, but they were 3 massive points .

Winks mom.
Good.. Hugo,Rose, Sanchez,Jan

The rest average to poor.

I love that when Dele got thrown into the stands they got a throw in for it. The referee was a **** of the highest order.

To quote @Bill_Oddie from ages ago on twitter: “The referee was Pawson.” “I know, dad”

Winks became more of a threat once Dier came on and he was released from his defensive shackles. He did his defensive job very well and his attacking job even better. He is too often unfairly criticized for not making enough incisive passing but that is because he has been playing deeper. If Dier doesn’t come on then maybe he wouldn’t have made that run but he did and I’m very happy for him. He is going to be a very important player for us and hopefully with this performance following his excellent second half against United people are starting to see it. MOTM in both games for me.
You can make incisive passing from deeper. In fact his role as regista demands it.
True, players are not making the runs in front of him, but that is because they know no attempt would be made to find them.
They know on the right wing, if a striker runs into space, Trippier, for all his faults, will make that pass.

But Winks is one of our own, scampers like Perryman, maybe has an eye for a goal (which is more than we could say for Dembele) and hopefully has a long career at the club.

It’s ironic but if Dele had not been injured GKN would not have come on as a sub and there would have been no last minute cross to score from

And for all of us who were frustrated or mystified by Dier for Lamela substitution it allowed Winks licence to roam and that paid off
Well done Poch
And keeping 3 centre backs till the end of the game allowed Toby to go forward in 93rd min and make space for Wnks
Well done Poch again

BTW who can advise me I am visiting London next week and would like to go to Watford game at Wembley? Official Spurs site has no tickets available but most games I watch at Wembley on TV do not seem full
Ticket agencies want high prices - Footballticketnet want 100 pounds for a good ticket
Is there a better option?
Are tickets available at Wembley on the match evening.?
Advice appreciated

It was not a good performance by the team against a newly promoted side, likely to go down.

All my potential MOTM contenders had flawed games.
Rose was pretty active but his crossing remains poor.

And Winks was not creating, for all the good possession he had in our half.

But as it turned out, Winks got the winner at the death. And that is all anyone will remember.

Tickets are available on the Spurs OS. I am assuming you are not a member and therefore you will be eligible to purchase a ticket during the general sale period which starts on Friday 25th January from 11.00 Hrs BST.
Tickets will not be available at Wembley on the night of the match.

Can't agree, mate. You're completely dismissing (or just forgetting?) the fact that, if it wasn't for Lloris' 1st half performance, we'd have been at least 3 down at half time & 3 points worse off right now.

Winks knits it together well at the back, but I can't remember him passing forward.
He was absolutely no threat at all, until he turned up at the end.

This is absolute nonsense.
Did you fall asleep at kick off?

Dembele, Sissoko, Dier and Wanyama
are not much of a threat
in that sense either
but are all 'beasts'
in the Spurs popular imagination.
Winks hasn't gained that accolade yet
and never will
if you can't even remember
62 forward passes

OK. I see. I thought you were a Winks ultra who would not accept that without the goal, he wasn't necessarily MOTM.

Lloris had a good game and made a good nearside save as I remember.
But he himself wants clean sheets. It was only by a technicality that their second was ruled out.
If Babel hadn't come off and continued to test Lloris to his limits, then Lloris would have been a strong contender, but as it turned out, he had little to do in the 2nd.

This is hardly an exact science, and if Lloris is your man, then great.

Enough of the bus stoppery. :)

Winks was a pivot and fed the wings and switched play. He had loads of possession and was very tidy in our half, where 'our half 'actually extended well over the half way line for much of the game, if you know what I mean. Vertonghen and Alderweireld were often in midfield positions.
He played well and now Dembele is gone is probably in the 1st eleven regardless of other injuries, which is incredible given I thought he'd never play for us again.

But those figures above are misleading. Nearly all his passing was more sideways than forward. He wasn't finding the AMs unless they came right back to collect the ball. He wasn't cutting Fulham to shreds. His was a safety first AVB type game.
OK, normally he is better than this so I guess without a DM of some description beside him, being risk averse was the best tactic. And once Dier came on, he couldn't have been more attacking.

Neither was my man, to be honest. Rose was my personal standout player. I wasn't looking for an argument, or detracting from your opinion. I was just pointing out that you insinuated that only Winks actually did anything of any significance, but Lloris' saves in that first half are really the only things that gave the Winks goal the relevance it ended up having.
