1st Half. Very sloppy with nothing positive to write about other than Kane scoring twice. The poor selection resulted in a very poor and gutless performance. I believe players like Son were picked on last season's reputation rather than being on form.

2nd Half. No change of a very poor performance, comical at times. Still not enough composure all around. Nothing to write about. The only consolation is we didnt concede a late goal on this occasion Still very underwhelming. We need to up our game big time not to be humiliated by Barcelona, a game I am now not looking forward to. We have lost our mojo of the past three seasons.

Kane MOTM by virtue of his goals

Huddersfield didn't have a clear chance the entire game what are you on about. Yes they hit the bar but that was more a great volley than an obvious opportunity.

And how the fuck was it 'gutless'? They had about 20 long throws into our box and we won every header.

Best harsh, clean sheet away from home, 2-0 win and could of been more, add on top the shit load of injuries we have at the moment, not too shabby

Agree with all that apart from Son.

Clueless opening post

We showed desire and alot of positive performances
Harry, Sanchez, Victor to name 3
Probably I was expecting more. You were probably satisfied, I was not. The Spurs of last season would have taken this poor opposition to town. Glad you are happy and clued up though

Kane - goals, and hold-up play.

Gazzaniga - honourable mention - really should be #2 for the rest of the season. I think he has earned it.

We missed a creator today - both Son and Lucas are better off the ball, than trying to create on the ball. Both are struggling a bit at the moment.

Gazza 7 did what he had to do and a little bit more
Trips 5 average performance with a good cross
Toby 9 man mountain
Dave 9 don't think he lost an aerial duel all match
Verts 7 did well until he came off
Rose 8 i'm a known critic of him but he was top notch today
Dier 3 in midfield/6 at CB think we found his position
Dembele 6 solid
Wanyama 7 solid, calm, composed performance
Winks 3 didn't look like he knew what he was doing
Sissoko N/A not enough time
Lucas 7.5 was our outlet for most of the match and kept their defense running all match, a goal and he'd be MOTM
Son 4 off the pace, give him a rest
Kane 8.5 fouled all match and still put in a solid performance and a brace

MOTM Davinson with Toby running him very close

EDIT: forgot rose and dembele

Didn't think anyone stood out today. MoM to Kane for the goals and for that fact that he looked a bit more fresh.

A better team would have destroyed us. We were disjointed. Ball out of defence was extremely poor in first half and we had to go long in second. We have been outpressed again.

This game showed how important Lamela is to connect play.

Kane, Lucas, Sanchez, Rose and Gazza played well, Wanyama was ok.

MotM, Kane for scoring 2 goals.

We often talk about grinding out results. We have a few injuries and tired players mostly due to the world cup. We haven't played yet to our fullest potential as past seasons but today we still have 3points and still around top 5.

Unlike the rest of the season so far, I don't think it was the system that caused so many to play poorly. There were so many simple misplaced passes, poor touches and stupid decisions offensively + defensively that we never go into our grove. We still created plenty and they created little. We dealt very well with the almighty amount of balls put into our box which is a plus.

Gazzaniga 7 - Couple of decent saves and was assured when he came for things. Couple of dodgy passes though.

Alderweireld 7 - Great block in the second half. Was good defensively but looked uncharacteristically unsure on the ball.
Sanchez 6 - Defended fine but, again, didn't look comfortable on the ball.
Vertonghen 6 - Decent enough. Don't remember anything particularly bad from him...?

Rose 5 - Decent enough first half. Attacked well enough and for the most part defended fine. Second half he was terrible. Stupid decision making and needlessly diving in when he didn't have to.
Trippier 6 - Wasn't the best defensively in the first half, but put in two great crosses. Better defensively in the second half.
Dembele 6 - We bypassed midfield a lot with their press + poor passing/control from everyone around him meant he couldn't get in the game. Both him and Dier were too deep in the first half when we had possession.
Dier 6 - Bad in midfield. He shouldn't play in midfield when we have a back three. Not too bad in the second after a silly foul.

Son 6 - Caused problems with his running and not all the passes played to him were great, but he lost the ball so many times with poor touches.
Lucas 6 - A lot of his good stuff is being done individually rather than through good team played. Probably should have done better with the opportunities he had. Was he fouled in the build up to the first?
Kane 7 - Great header. Dealt well with a lot of awkward/terrible passes to him. Looked spent after about 60 minutes.

Wanyama 6 - Decent. One of his better displays in recent times.
Winks 5 - A bit like Dembele only with needless fouling.
Sissoko - Didn't put a foot wrong.

And how the fuck was it 'gutless'? They had about 20 long throws into our box and we won every header.

Why do people have to pick up on 1 or 2 adjectives made in one's brief on a game and make it as if someone's observation of a generally poor performance (compared to what we've become used to) is an unacceptable slagging off???

Everything @Bulletspur said is absolutely spot on!
Thats not to say we didnt try. We absolutely did. But his points are correct imo. Son was pretty shit. the performance did look gutless (Lucas had so many wasted efforts and was a lot of huff n puff and no final product even tho he tried hard). Players looked sloppy and lethargic, therefore gutless, but not in the sense that they didnt wanna try. Its just that there appeared to be not much in the tank of a few players. And on composure, he was absolutely right again. They did look like they didnt have composure (the countless times did Son, Lucas and Kane fluff at a critical moment when they could & should have done better) and it was not a performance to write home about. ALL these points were right...
However, you are right too.... Huddersfield did not have any real good chances, partly because they werent great and we we more on top than they were. And again, you were right that we won every header. Absolutely correct.

Wanyama imho was an absolute beast when he came on. He wont practically every headed challenge which really helped.

Can't people just agree that both sides of the argument are right?
No one is wrong imo but you are both right.

We’re playing through a sticky patch and won 2-0 away from home whilst never really looking in any danger. Very surprised Lamela did not start and equally surprised he did not come on. Maybe he’s being saved for Barca?

Come on, we were missing Eriksen. Everyone knows we struggle to create and control games without him. Considering he was unavailable I thought we coped well

There was an Eriksen-shaped hole in the midfield. That was the main problem.

The defence was really solid today, winning and heading away countless aerial balls, especially Sanchez. The wing-backs were OK, Rose the better, but without doing anything brilliant except for Trippier's assist, which was, well, what Trippier does.

On occasions when we could keep the ball for long enough to mount a break, the front three looked hungry and quick, if somewhat uncoordinated at times (Son mainly).

But Dier had one of his brainless-passing games, steering the ball directly to an opponent several times when under no real pressure. Winks was OK, but still needs to get his fine touch back. And Dembélé was competent but uninspired. And there was no Eriksen, haring around, pressing, dropping back when required, making the link and joining the attack.

The result was a lot of Huddersfield pressure, ball-winning and harrying that added up to very little, because they have no one with any craft or creativity in the final third. Pritchard was OK, but seems to have lost whatever magic he had as a young player. Perhaps he's better than that and just has no one to be creative for. They're well-drilled in midfield, naive in defence and toothless at the front - pretty much the opposite of us today.

We did the job: scored a couple of goals through quality and then slammed the door. Can't decide between Kane & Sanchez for man of the match.

P.S. Gazzaniga was good again. Pochettino's patience with young players is an underrated trait. He knows when to introduce them. Many fans think he brings in young talent too late, but the results suggest otherwise. Gazzaniga looks like a good premiership goalkeeper now.

Seven games. Five away. Five wins. Actually a good start to the season, especially when we doesn't play well.
