It’s a toss of a coin between Dembélé and Eriksen for me. Dembele was in proper beast mode, his strength and guile with the ball is incredible. (Can’t believe someone on here started a thread about him being past it & getting rid of him :banghead:) Eriksen was sublime, he really took the game to Juve and some of his passing was phenomenal.
Probably give it to Dembele as I think he has been underrated this season.

We played amazingly well last night barring the 3 moments of madness. Dembele was just unplayable and Eriksen and Lamela caused them all sorts of problems.

Really surprised Kane didn’t score the header in the first half as he had time and is a big game player who normally takes those chances. The one negative for me was Aurier’s performance, was easy to commit in defence and stopped our buildup play to often by looking for a shortbball rather than crossing

Serge Aurier

I knew way before that he is a liability and accident waiting to happen...upgrade on Walker? LOL

Just like i was right on the two N'somethings

Just like I was right on the two lightweights Pritchard & Carroll
What a record you possess! Step aside Poch.... the cookiemonster is here to take us to the next level

Everyone played a positive part in this come back despite a few of those same players getting us into trouble a couple of times.

I like to keep things positive for the most part so I think Aurier deserves some praise for staying on his
Feet and showing some maturity in the second half. He could have easily played inside himself for the rest of the game.

Lamela is going from strength to strength and he put in a fantastic performance tonight, I was happy to see him on the teamsheet and think he more than justified his inclusion.

Obvs Dembele and Eriksen ran the show and what a delight it was to see them do it with such confidence and style.

What an amazing side we have now and competition for places in the starting 11 are being contested by fantastic players who all deserve to be there.

What an exciting time to support spurs

I dunno about anyone else but I do my ratings based off of how Football Manager does ratings, due to playing it for so many years it always seems to work in my head. So every player kinda starts as a 6 on the basis that they would have an average overall performance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

6 = Average game (Aurier)
7 = Good game (Sanchez, Lloris, Dier, Davies)
8 = Very good game (Alli, Lamela, Kane, Vertonghen)
9 = Excellent game
10 = Outstanding game (Eriksen, Dembele)

5 = Below average
4 = Poor
3 = Very poor
2 or 1 = almost impossible to be this bad. Maybe Bakayoko vs Watford bad, e.g. caught in possession with almost every touch, mis-place near enough every pass, sent off after 25 mins.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So I think my point is more around Aurier. I think it's easy to look at the penalty he gave away, with it being an absolutely shocking bit of play by him, and forget anything else he did. If we're honest, he didn't offer a great deal going forward but on the whole I think he marshalled Costa pretty well (besides the pen) and for that I would give him a 6.

It's easy to focus on the bad moments and not consider the whole game. Costa really didn't have much of an impact apart from 1 or 2 bursts of pace, 1 of which that led to a penalty that Aurier should NEVER have dived in for in the first placed so he gets marked down for that.

Apart from the spelling of ‘new’, I agree with this. Aurier wasn’t as bad as some are making out.

The rash challenge for the penalty aside, I thought he had a decent second half and blocked numerous balls with his head to stop their counters. Always showed for an attack too, though would’ve preferred more (or better) crosses.

But he does need to cut out the rash challenges. If he’d stayed on his feet he may have been able to run the attacker out of play. Rush of blood and all that. Hopefully Poch will coach that out of him as time goes on.

Dembele MOTM obvs. Eriksen just behind, just. What a match the second leg will be. It will take a massive, massive effort to get through, but we can, which is unbelievable considering the first 10 mins. What a game.
Poch is no idiot. Even after giving away a penalty and getting a card he didnt sub him why?He knew knew was playing against a world class winger with great pace and he didn't have the confidence in Trip to handle him, and apart from the penalty and one run he handled him well. His distribution was poor and needs improving but we must take into account his opponent before we write him off ,certainly based on what has happened last night Poch hasn't.
I fear for us in the second leg when he can't play as Costa is a real weapon.

How is that idiotic? Aurier controlled himself after the booking and didn't get himself sent off. If anything that is good man management - Aurier learned a lot after the yellow card and improved as the game went on.

It’s not idiotic. Which is probably why he says “Poch is no idiot”.

Trippier will be alright, Sanchez makes up for the lack of pace. Trippier has been a combative little bastard lately, as long as we keep them on the backfoot, we should be okay.

Got to give Aurier time in my view, he needs a full pre-season to get a proper "Poch-ing". Trippier looked average in his first season until the man got hold of him.

Difficult to be any kind of objective after a slobberknocker of a game like that (although certain @mpickard2087 & @Bus-Conductor will give it a good go), but the partnership between Eriksen and Dembele is turning into a pretty little flower.

I thought Jan was superb as well (shite clearance in the collective fuck up for the first goal aside obviously), and fair fucks to Lamela for putting himself about a lot. I'd kind of like a hybrid of Dembele-Lamela, one doesn't always do things quick enough, and one sometimes plays like he's had too much coffee.

Overall, decent game, looked like we played a 4-3-3 with Kane (r), Dele (c) and Lamela (l) in the first half, Aurier and Davies did well to forget about their errors and man up.

Man of the match, Mousa for me.

Dembele in full on beast mode again. Yet another MOM performance and there's no sign whatsoever of him running out of steam. Not only does he show for the ball in any situation, he also puts in a major defensive shift. At one point he popped up with great tackle at RB. Eriksen and Lamela on the pitch together allows either to push up or drop deeper at will and Lamela looks like the player who was so instrumental to our pressing a couple of seasons back. We have some squad now when all are fit and firing.

Between Dembele and Eriksen of cours.

10/10 to Poch though really. It was amazing to be able to watch a tactical plan take shape so tangibly. I was kind of shocked when Lamela as starting over Son, but as the game wore on it started to make so much sense. It seemed that Poch's game plan was to hem them in deep in their half. They could barely get out of our press for most of the game.

Eriksen prowling behind Alli and Lamela looked like he had two rottweilers on leashes in front of him at times.

Rarely post, but have to go BC style for this one.

after 10 minutes, I sat there wondering what the fuck just happened.

....Just what the fuck....

2 super-soft goals conceded. First one just a glitch out of this world. and Davies just makes a complete mess out of practically nothing on the second.

A few more minutes in, and we just started dominating everything. Yes, they were 2 up, but fucking hell! It`s Juventus. Conceded just 1 goal in their past 19 matches, Juventus. No team in the world would let Tottenham dominate so much at their ground on will. We simply over-powered them by having a strong central line in Vertonghen, Dembelè and Kane, with Eriksen as the maestro.

Dembelè is the world`s best CM when in form like this last few weeks. His just a fucking nightmare to play against. Strong as an ox, and almost impossible to dispossess. Lately his more direct forward passing has just upped his game so much.

Eriksen just ran the show tonight and is SC most underrated player by quite a few. He just covers so much ground, works so fucking hard that for me his a fan favourite. What a intelligent player, and finally got his well-deserved goal from a set piece.

Lloris- 7.5- maybe he should have done better at their first? almost takes their first penalty, and is at the right place on their second penalty, if the ball was going under the bar. The usually not so good distribution, but more often did the right thing today and played more long balls.

Davies-6- think he was poor all game. shocking penalty to give away in CL. He has done very well lately, but for me he is just not fast enough for that position long term IMO. Becomes to predictable when his pace is what it is.

Sanchez-6.5- Is one of SC most overrated player IMO. Pace is well and fine, but looks very dodgy to me so far in more than a few occasions. His passing ability is his biggest liability, A hybrid of him and Foyth would probably be the world’s best CB. Think Toby needs to come in play from now, in a 4.

Vertonghen-8.5- been our best defender all season, and nothing changes after this game. solid as a rock.

Aurier. 5.5 - Just oozes the opposite of football intelligence for me. Has to up his game far more than this. has to start playing more to his strength to make this work. Think it will be a blessing in disguise that his banned for the next match.

Dembelè- 9- In form, he is the best in the world. Has added a directness that just do wonder for the whole team. Been at the heart of all the good games lately. Joint MOM with Eriksen

Dier-7- think he loses possession too often, and doesn`t make the right choice when his on the ball.

Eriksen- 9- Ran the show today. And we are so lucky that he is so "anonymous" for other big clubs.
Covers so much ground, and his silky touch is just a joy to watch. That pass to Kane`s chance just sums it up. what a class player. When other players move and create pocket he can pss to, he never has a bad game - when the player around him is shit, then his whole play gets effected, and therefor gets to much criticism. Joint MOM with Dembelè

Lamela-8.5- looks very sharp now. work rate as always. looks stronger than last year.

Alli- 7 - Typically Dele game. Loses ball often, trying flicks that don`t come up, releases the ball to slowly, try to run straight through players. But then he just adds goals and assist. Assisted Kane`s goal very well, with just the right touch, and got us the freekick also. Problem with alli is that when his not contributing with goal and assist, he has mostly (this year early season) looked a little meh.

Kane- 8 - should have scored the first header. but always makes defenders work. nice play for the second.

Poch. 8 – Got a good response from the players after their goals. Must have done something right

They handed us the advantage by dropping off after the second goal
as most Italian teams would especially Juventus with their defensive record
and many English teams and who would blame them.
They tried to get in our faces at the start of the second half but couldn't sustain it.

Gave MOM to Eriksen as Dembele clearly can't be MOM twice running..Both 9.
Dele and Lamela both 8 and Verts even though his sloppy clearance led to the first goal
Rest 7's apart from Aurier and Dier 6
What a game, what a week, what a month, what a team.
still tingling with the excitement.

There was a great description of Dembele's performance just now on the radio:
He looked like that dad at the picnic who's had a couple of lagers and is now playing football with the 7 year olds shouting 'Come on!...try and get the ball off me!!'

Aurier was nowhere near as bad as some of you miserable weirdos are making out.

Trippier deserves first choice atm, but he’d have struggled against Costa’s pace and trickery. Aurier got beat once or twice and gave a pen away. Bernadeschi had 2/3 chances cutting in on Davies’ side and Davies gave a pen - but Aurier is a liability because he’s new and this forum is full of “yer da”s

In addition to this, both were poor going forward and made no attempt to overlap into the box.

I would definitely do not think it's fair to judge Aurier based yesterday. He was up against Juventus!
Whilst I like with your sentiment, playing against Juventus didn't affect our other players so adversely, and it's not like it's the first time he's had a brain fart.
