I have. See my post above

I know, as long as you can see that it wasn't 100% Diers fault, which it seems your levelling at him, you do realise that Mourinho just sold a World Cup winning German International because he doesn't track runners, its kind of important.

Dembele MOM
Dier did well
Lamela ok
Thought eriksen was poor. Still yet to see him make a tackle. His final ball was awful tonight.

I still think we should try Dembele in CM. He was amazing in holding onto the ball and pass it to a teammate and he also seemed to be our strongest midfielder. I just don't think he creates or scores enough as a CAM. He did today, with his cock, but he can't seem to score in open play. I thought we would have looked better today with him in CM.
That's where he's always been playing, it's only in the last few ganes he's been pushed further forward and had a couple of decent games. Today may have been a good time to drop him back in there and bring on Chadli for Mason or Bentaleb.

Worst fears came true in that game.

I feared the movement of the Liverpool team would cause us problems, it somewhat happened. I feared the 3-4-3 would cause us problems, and that definitely happened.

That was a frustrating game to watch, and not a good advert for the Premier League. Both teams lacked quality and so it was neck and neck. We did show more resolve than previous Spurs teams would, and by hook or by crook got back in the game, but ultimately we failed to adapt to the system we came up against and in the end we were punished for it.

@jonathanhotspur , as you asked elsewhere what I felt we did wrong...

Tactically I think we have had an awful night, and as much as I praised him on Saturday, tonight unfortunately Poch has had a bit of a 'mare. It was some more evidence that he isn't the best at adapting to what's happening in game.

The areas where we could hurt them were obvious early on. A couple of times we won the ball back, sprung forward and had a man spare on the outside. Unfortunately we didn't make best use of the opportunities. With the three man defence their was also space down the sides to exploit. Liverpool were also pressing us quite high and doing a reasonably good job of reading what we were going to do with the ball, particularly recycling it through our centre mids, and swarming us. This created a couple of alarmingly misplaced passes that could have been punished.

Without the ball, where we might get hurt was also abundantly clear. We made the error of trying to close down too high and got our 'marking' all wrong... Wide players were too high, leaving Walker and Rose pushing up to Moreno/Ibe and leaving gaps for Markovic and Coutinho to run into, and dragging our centre backs out (Sturridge also drifted into the space vacated in the channels well at times). Especially on our left this was an issue all night, where we were constantly two against one.

For me the solution was obvious. You accepted this was a night to play on the counter against this formation and approach. Let their centre backs have the ball, two disciplined banks of four (Lamela on Moreno - Mason/Gerrard - Bentaleb/Henderson - Eriksen/Ibe then Walker/Coutinho - Rose/Markovic and the centre backs deal with Sturridge). Let them have the ball at the back, be disciplined, then counter at pace and expose the gaps in a three man defence which isn't the quickest, neither is Gerrard getting back in to cover.

We never did quite do this though and for me it was disappointing, especially not getting to grips with what we were doing off the ball and getting organised against their shape. It took till the end for it to be really punished, Rose is left 2 vs. 1, has to go out to Ibe, the ball is slipped inside to the second man who isn't picked up, goal scored. I have little sympathy for us, because there was enough of a warning in the previous 85 mins to do something about it. I'd have had Davies on at half time, pushed Rose to left midfield and gone from there to combat that side in particular. The subs that did come on offered little, and I didn't see the thinking behind them, it was just like for like when that wasn't working.

I think tonight also showed we could probably do with more pace up top in one of those four positions. As I said, their was space to be exploited but we don't really have anyone who has enough about themselves to hurt teams in this way when the situation calls for it. One for the summer to sort out...

We were a tad unlucky, we kept scrapping away and the players kept trying... But I think we need to play smarter at times, and Poch, although having shown us some good things to look forward to under his stewardship, has to find a bit of nous for what's happening during the game and show some signs of reacting to it. Work to do...

Lloris - Very disappointing for the first goal. Nearly got to the penalty, and a couple of decent stops. That first goal though...

Walker - Meh. Exposed at times, but also made a few silly errors and lacked composure.

Dier - I felt he did ok and acquitted himself well on the whole. A few times his pace and recovery challenges dug us out of danger. Maybe can fault him for losing Balotelli for the winning goal, but it was rifled across the 6 yard line between defence and keeper and one of those that's a nightmare to deal with.

Vertonghen - Did ok. Maybe a bit weak for the opening goal.

Rose - One on one defending was shaky, but in mitigation was left completely exposed and had two men to mark all night long. Silly challenge for the penalty. Not a good nights work.

Mason - Just about ok. Tried to drive forward a few times to reasonable effect. Never really stamped his authority on the game though.

Bentaleb - Pretty anonymous tonight.

Lamela - Tricky one. He got a nice assist, forced a great save and put in a real shift as per usual... Its just when he gets it wrong, he gets it spectacularly wrong... The one second half where he passed right for some reason instead of going left being one of them. I also thought his dribbling was very below par at times, got crowded out a lot. Did ok overall, but leaves you tearing your hair out along the way.

Dembele - first half especially did pretty good as a conduit for the ball. Less effective in the second. Still not much in terms of output...

Eriksen - I thought he was our most disappointing player. Booked early on and then seemed totally reluctant to get involved. Could/should have been subbed off even earlier. Week off will do him good.

Kane - A goal and an assist, but I felt he had a slightly below par game overall. Didn't really go for him, and when he did get it often made a poor choice. Tracked back well on a couple of occasions though, and as I said a goal and an assist, so I feel bad for pointing out the bad stuff and shows how far he has come and what we are starting to expect from him.

Subs:
Paulinho - No impact, where was Stambouli?
Chadli - Disappointing cameo, major culprit for the winning goal.
Soldado - n/a.

I thought Dembele was outstanding, bossed the first half especially well. Lamela did not stop working either, really put a good shift in. Other than that I think it was clear Bentelab, Mason and Eriksen need a rest, pleased we have a weekend without a fixture now but the games come think and fast after that.

It wasn't anywhere near as bad as some of the typical knee jerks reactions make out, it was a good contest but they deserved to win because they created the better chances it's as simple as that.

Almost the complete opposite of my post. He isn't made for a midfield 2.
Well i would play him alongside Eriksen and with Bentaleb behind them. He is in form right now and maybe playing the best footy for us, but i still think that a CAM should have more assists/goals. Our first goal was something that i'm afraid Dembele can't pull off. Eriksen had a mediocre game(i don't think it was as bad as some others think), but he is still our Modric. I think we looked clueless when he went off. I just can't see Dembele do the same for us in the long run.

I would really like to see Dembele in his current form in CM. But then again, Poch is not a 4-3-3 manager.

Not a good advert for the Premier League?! For the neutral that was a humdinger
For a neutral yes, quality wise from two of the better teams, I don't think so. There are mitigating circumstances, both teams had derby matches at the weekend, but I felt no team ever had any control of the game or showed any composure.

So what If chadli lost his man. Dier is still there to smash the ball behind.

I don't understand why you can't see it?

I've just been having another look at the first goal we conceded and I can't understand why Dier afforded Markovic so much time and space to get a shot away.

It's ok! We played a bit disappointing, but still gave them a game to the end. We are young, and we will be a bit up and down. Bummer it was a down vs the creepiest team in the league. Get behind them, cause it's a lot to look forward to with these faboulus young guys!

He didn't lose his man. he never even bothered to follow him, in this age of football you cant for a minute leave players to get a free cross in, Chadli is massively at fault for the goal. Not sure what kind of Speed you expect Dier to muster from a standing start but he would have to be like something out of a cartoon to "smash it behind" from there.

Is it Bentaleb following too? him and Dier both kind of dither, i think they pick the wrong men to follow if i remember right, kids still young though, needs to keep getting games and building confidence.

Yes looking at it again Dier could have closed him down more... I'd guess he's wary of diving in thinking he is last man, and/or there's little danger as he's pushing him away from goal... In any case, I'm not sure how Hugo has let that one get past him.

Bentaleb is on his tail but decides to hand him over to Dier and close off the option of a pass to Sturridge instead. Thought it was a poor piece of play by Vertonghen, too. And just before all that, Mason should have spotted Eriksen rather than taking a potshot.

A very weak hand. He'll be kicking himself.

Poch: Absolutely inexcusable not to rotate. Absolutely no way players like Mason, Bentaleb, and Rose were going to be fit for this game. They worked tirelessly on Saturday, just no way to put in a repeat effort with this recovery time. Furthermore, the "letdown spot" is a pretty well known phenomenon, especially for younger players, and you could see they were all half as good as Saturday, coming off the high of a big derby win. Mason and Bentaleb in particular were absolutely woeful. Our squad is young and the mental/physical letdown simply had to be factored for, Poch failed to do so and we paid. I actually got Disagree ratings for saying Davies, Paulinho, Chadli, and even Fazio should all come into the side, look what happened...

Lloris finally messed up. He did it enough at Lyon and has done it for France too, so was going to happen eventually. Still the best GK in the Prem.
For what it's worth, much like Soldado and Adebayor in the strikers debate, we better not butterfluff this mistake and then criminalize Vorm for his blunder vs Leicester. Both GKs have been outstanding on every other occasion, but if you mess up as a goalie, you cost your team a goal.

Lloris 3
Walker 4.5
Vertonghen 5
Dier 6.5
Rose 3.5
Mason 3
Bentaleb 3
Lamela 6.5
Eriksen 4
Dembellly 6
Kane 5

Away support: 10

Dier (did well for the majority of the night and some crucial tackles) and Lamela (fantastic workrate and bagged an assist - unfortunately the workrate wasn't matched by his teammates and the pressing was useless unlike v Arsenal) were the standout players for me.
Think absolutely inexcusable is a tad harsh - if he had of rested said players and we played crap he would have got slaughtered for that!

Can't win really lol.

ok so this was a tense game to watch very entertaining and plenty of positives to be taken from it but there was also a lot of costly error's by both teams. I think we played quite well first half and pressed them pretty well, we looked dangerous and looked lively going forward , Liverpool pressed us well and always looked up for it but we caused our own problems we kept making silly passes and giving it away cheaply in really silly areas. I think we played some nice football at times in that first half though and it was just a shame Lloris who had made a great save just before made a rare mistake but we showed what a good team we are and come back I always felt we could get back into this game.

2nd half was a bit more disappointing we seemed to stop pressing them like we was doing and we just didn't seem to keep the ball. Rose is a good strong footballer who gets forward well at times and does make some good challenges but he costs us far too much, what the hell was he doing? He did not need to make that challenge. As soon as they scored I thought that was it, we stopped working as hard, and didn't seem to be able to keep the ball aswell but fair play we come back and got the goal somehow.

Things could of been different in this game, I think kane could of got a penalty earlier on and if that Lamela shot had gone in. I think we deserved the draw tonight. both teams made silly mistakes at times, we didn't get outplayed we showed great strength and determination to come back it was silly errors which cost us tonight.

It Was hard to see it all on the stream I was watching so wont do ratings but Dembele looked like he played well, Lamela gave it his all as usual, presses well and great build up play for the 2nd goal, Mason worked hard again done good things done sloppy things as usual he always seems to do good things like get into good postitions but always fucked it up at the last moment, Dier made some crucial challenges but could of gave away a pen and could of done better for there third goal, Kane didn't seem to do much apart from score.

That game was absolute shit to watch from our perspective. we looked scared to press the ball and close liverpool down. bentaleb was AWFUL. no pressing, bad passing, terrible positioning. he looked like he was out of his league tonight. Make no mistake, liverpool are a shit team, and we lost to a crap side tonight by totally surrendering the midfield and that is what is hurting me especially after we JUST destroyed arsenal by pressing like crazy. positives, lamela was really good, dembele bossed it, dier did really well and mason was above average today..and as for Harry, well he was our harry.

ratings

Lloris - 7 did well except for the error for the first goal which shouldnt have happened in the first place

Walker - 7 did okay he and moreno were in a tussle all game

Dier - 8 well done Eric. love him at CB

Verts -6 terrible passing from out the back. seriously woeful. made some good forward runs though

Bentaleb - 2 awful. terrible. bad cant use enough words to describe his performance. love him as a player though. probably tired and whatnot. I also cant understand why poch kept him on

Mason - 7 stepped it up this game. rate the effort

Eriksen - 6.8 worked and did what he did best. nice free kick for our second equalizer. dont understand why poch took him off.

Dembele - 8.2 MOTM. bossed them. scored, set up goals, passed. looked a real menace. wonderful

Lamela - 7.2 lovely lovely assist. sublime pass. worked his socks off, made mingolet save alot, some grating tackles. im excited by what im seeing. will be an amazing player. decision making let him down a bit though as usual but I can see he's getting it slowly but surely

Kane - 8 wonderful. nice goal, worked hard for the team etc.

SUBS
Chadli - 6 didnt offer much
Paulinho - 5 I like him. but he shouldnt be playing for us. i hope to see him do well somewhere else
Soldado - NET (on a side note i hope poch is rehabilitating him behind the scenes so he comes out firing when we see him again)

Poch - 4 bad squad selection (why no stambo?) bad subs taking off eriksen and dembele....im surprised he didnt blow up the players and tell them to close down the ball more. really odd decisions all round.

onwards and upwards. stings because they are shite and were there for the taking but whatever cant win them all
