btw, Poch put Paulinho in because he was happy with a draw. Thats what he uses him for - because Pauli is good at slowing things down with a lot of simple passes and eating up time with possession that doesnt necessarily lead to anything.

Don't think anyone covered themselves in glory tonight tbh...

If I had to give a MOTM i'd go for Lamela, mainly on his application, but a nice pass for Kane's goal helped.

I think the whole team did just that; I thought we were great.

The only thing we did wrong was to hand them the game with a couple of lapses..

The game from the start seemed nervy. Very sloppy from both teams. We didn't display the same patience we did against Arsenal. We were clearly tired. Granted they did press more, but we looked too shaky at times.

Lamela was all over the place and Dembele was superb.

Bentaleb was tired. Had back pass after back pass that sent their front men in on goal. He wasn't mentally tuned in.

Overall, a good performance against a good team especially after putting in so much effort against Arsenal.

We have something with this core and we just need to keep developing. You can see the belief that they have in each other. Very promising.

He was never a CM2 and neither is paulinho. I'm pretty sure poch is aware that paul'o isn't, as much as he was aware that dembele wasn't.

My theory is that poch is still trying to explore our payers' scope whilst trying to integrate them, all at the same time.

It's all process.

We tonked chel$ea, annihilated arsenal and should have beaten liverpool at their gaff, comfortably - if we hadn't have been so generous.

This is only the beginning.

Where will we be next season???

Life is good. ;)
I'm really excited for next year also especially if we get a quality backup striker, (like that is going to happen):banghead::hilarious::inpain::(

To be brutal.. we need clyne (RB), a bastard raging LB; a striker to challenge/push/deputy kane; a CM to knock the socks off of what we already have and lift that role to a new level and raise bents and mason onto a higher plateau.

Our new era won't be built in a day though. ;)

Patience is all. :)

Unless Poch can figure a way to shore up the defence we are extremely unlikely to win bugger all. Two clean sheets from our last eleven games in all competitions and a sieve like defence conceding eighteen goals.

This is where the real issue lies.

Dier mom bentaleb why did you go and cover with rose instead of staying with your man, cost us the game

Not really - Chadli just watched Lallana run into space in the box and didn't bother tracking him. Bentaleb was right to put the cover on with rose.

What do you think of fans favour Jan Vertonghen?

I feel a lot of our defensive frailty steams from him, he dosent take charge and with him at the centre of our defence we'll always concede goals IMO.

Only as a good as your weakest player, and Rose and Walker were both very poor defensively. Not helped by Eriksen or Lamela. Our system still looks dodgy when attacked down the flanks.

Dembele was fantastic last night. Easy MOM decision. 8.5

Lamela was much better -particularly in the 1st half - and moves the ball with much more purpose. Worked very hard to win back possession for the team too. Tired in the second half, but so did all of our players. 7.5

Dier did well for the most part, still a rookie, but shows maturity beyond his years and has all the attributes a of a good centre half. 7

Verts was okay, at fault in the lead up to the first goal. Not his best display. 6

Walker found himself in some good positions in the attacking 3rd. But his use of the ball was disappointing. Solid enough defensively, nothing amazing though. 6

Rose was very erratic and needs to learn to stay on his feet more, rather than diving in. Always a threat going forward. 6

Both fullbacks need to learn to throw the ball to our players from throw ins - what was that all about last night? Have it away almost every time.

Mason looked knackered and his passing was very tired from the start. Almost put Liverpool in on goal early doors. Tried hard but it didn't happen for him last night. 5.5

Bentaleb - see Mason. Sloppy in possession at times and almost laid on a goal for them in the first half. Worked hard and kept going till the end, but looked tired. 6

Eriksen looked off the pace from the start. He got out muscled too often and failed to capitalise when picking up the ball in space. Nice 1-2 in the build up to Kane's goal, but not enough of that on display through the game. 6

Kane took the goal well - nice first touch and powerful finish. Lovely ball in for Dembele too. Should have pulled the trigger on his early chance and needs to be aware of team mates in better positions at times. Worked hard as always, but another who looked tired. 7

Hugo - a couple of decent saves before the goal. Should have done better with the first but he's allowed one error and I don't think the pitch helped him at all. Still God 7

Subs

Paulinho - shirked 1st tackle and did nothing after that
Chadli - didn't track Lallana for the goal
Soldado - not enough time (harsh decision to award the free kick against him when tussling with Skrtel). Doesn't look happy at all

Still promising signs, but I thought they were there for the taking. Had we had more time after the NLD to recover, I think we would've taken at least a point. I know they played a derby game of their on Saturday too, but that was more like a chess match while ours was a frantic affair with every player leaving everything they had on the pitch.

Lead to a defeat...

I wasn't surprised we lost, a draw would have been the right result, i feared that wanker would get the winner when he strutted on.

Can't fault most of the players effort, but i thought it was too soon after the epic effort on saturday to ask them to give the same again in a big game and they looked like the game came abit too soon for some of them.

Poch has been great, but i think he failed to address the threat of Ibe down our left, it was relentless at times, maybe switching Lamela with Eriksen midway through the first half might have helped.

Games done and gone, didn't see much wrong with us other than fatigue, maybe Poch could have given Bentaleb a rest after his ACN tournament......but we will go again and i have no worries.

Standouts ..Moussa and Dier .....Lamela played his bollocks off,

We still did well to come back from behind twice, which shows great character.

Also re: rotating Liverpool didn't rotate that much and I still don't get how players can be tired from playing two games in four games - after they've finished training they get lots of time free in which they could go beddy byes or chill in front of their Xbox, Playstation (or even Nintendo if feeling hardcore!).

I wouldn't mind being able to do that... :joyful:

Liverpool don't have double training and have played less games than us up to now, I'm pretty sure

Also, the were rubbish against Everton and didn't put in a tenth of the effort we did at the emirates

Okay dumb question but I've missed this - how comes we have double training?

Is it Poch's usual way or players catching up to Posh standard?
