What's still getting under my skin is the love in for Liverpool. We made a couple of sloppy mistakes and got punished but had we avoided doing so we would of won this game, we were so close to winning it in many ways.

Its just so exciting seeing us play with a real appetite and desire. Mistakes costs us tonight but it was a good effort nevertheless. Such a pity we didn;t get the draw we thoroughly deserved though, even with the mistakes, as it would of kept Liverpool four points beneath us.

Agree with many others on the ratings front, Dembele was easily my MOTM and Lamela had his best game for us yet, in the League anyway. His assist for Kane was excellent and he also forced Mignolet into a good save. He generally worked hard but my God, he still manages to really frustrate! One of the most inexplicable decisions I've seen a player make when all he had to do was roll the ball into the box for Mason who would only have had Mignolet to beat. Was that at 2-2 as well?

Had he done so we could well of been on the right side of the 3-2 scoreline last night.

Anyway, a few sloppy mistakes cost us and some poor decisions but overall we shouldn't of lost it.

Too many Captain Hindsights in this thread!

We played well, Liverpool are in great form as well and we were at their place so they had the advantage. We made a couple of sloppy mistakes that cost us a closely fought game. A match that barring a few better decisions by some of our players we might have easily nicked.

Either way i'm proud of the team and feel if we keep playing with the same intensity and desire we have got a good chance as anyone else as making the top four.

Look at how quick that cross comes in, he puts his foot on that it can go anywhere. Then also take into account he was tugged back.

Tugged back? Hardly.

It did move quick but surely he has the reactions to stick his foot out!? He knows balotelli is behind him.

Little tug. It's risky situation. But I think blaming him for it would be harsh since others failed to do their jobs beforehand. But I see where you're coming from, just think balls going very quick and a foot on it could go anywhere

Yeah I guess. Just think he must have known it would end up on balotelli's foot if he didn't get to it.

Meh. Doesn't matter anyway :(

It was so unbelievable, i screamed and threw something at my TV. It seemed playing in Mason was even the simpler pass too. Our player were just doing some thing nice and then immediately followed by something stupid half of the time. Like when Dier won a ball and then annoyingly mis-controlled a simple ball with no one around him for a throw in. They scored from the resulting throw in.

This is exactly true. Recently Poch has managed to cut out last seasons silly mistakes where we made the most in the league.
The manner in which we lost last nights game was a shame because their goals could have easily been prevented.
A bit of rest and more focus and the errors should hopefully not become a problem going forward.
It's important the players learn to find an intensity in all games going forward and not just the big games (liverpool, arsenal & chelsea for example).

I'm broadly pleased with our efforts last night and my glow from Saturday will remain till we face the Italians. Difficult opponents, including Dowd and his six yellows, and could easily have claimed what would have been an excellent point on the back of Saturday's exertions. Three points from the two games is a good return.

Hugo 6 one obvious mistake, one other spill of no consequence. That goal mouth was mush. Did the groundsman do some special work on it? Roll it at HT?! Honest as day is long, scousers
Walker 7 fine, where's the grief coming from? Got done once, at the end, took his card. Did I miss something important?
Rose 5 whole-hearted but very much second best against Ibe, didn't give Eriksen an option going forward either unlike v the goons.
Dier 8 not scapegoating him for the winner, defenders are generally told to hold the line not step backwards. Did really well otherwise and showed a good turn of pace.
Jan 7 the odd slip but solid and good distribution as always. One excellent break in the first half when young Harry could have played him in but made the wrong choice.
Bentaleb and Mason-both 6. Both fantastic at the weekend but both tired and sloppy at various points, although still full of heart and industry.
Dembele MOM 9. Superb, recycled the ball in really good areas and is beginning to add end product too. Club needs to offer him a new contract very soon I'd have thought.
Lamela 7 Lovely play in the build up to the goal and so nearly scored himself with a nice strike in the second half. Otherwise great off the ball but still regularly conceded possession through bad decision making. Easier to put Mason in on goal than try a reverse ball to their left back? Had a right to tire too, excellent stamina.
Eriksen 6 little support from Rose going forward although played him in beautifully once in the first half, another good free kick leading to a goal but always seemed to be in the wrong place to help slow Ibe down.
Harry 7 decent hard and low finish and intelligent assist, showing off his clever movement, awareness and two-footedness. Otherwise a little isolated and therefore trying a bit too much on his own.

Poch- awful subs, Mason blowing out of his arse is more than Paulinho, and Mousa was still well involved and a better option for the last 10 than our resident waxwork Soldado. Davies might have had a run for Rose from the hour. Stambouli??

Dowd- shit.

Poch: Absolutely inexcusable not to rotate. Absolutely no way players like Mason, Bentaleb, and Rose were going to be fit for this game. They worked tirelessly on Saturday, just no way to put in a repeat effort with this recovery time. Furthermore, the "letdown spot" is a pretty well known phenomenon, especially for younger players, and you could see they were all half as good as Saturday, coming off the high of a big derby win. Mason and Bentaleb in particular were absolutely woeful. Our squad is young and the mental/physical letdown simply had to be factored for, Poch failed to do so and we paid. I actually got Disagree ratings for saying Davies, Paulinho, Chadli, and even Fazio should all come into the side, look what happened...

Lloris finally messed up. He did it enough at Lyon and has done it for France too, so was going to happen eventually. Still the best GK in the Prem.
For what it's worth, much like Soldado and Adebayor in the strikers debate, we better not butterfluff this mistake and then criminalize Vorm for his blunder vs Leicester. Both GKs have been outstanding on every other occasion, but if you mess up as a goalie, you cost your team a goal.

Lloris 3
Walker 4.5
Vertonghen 5
Dier 6.5
Rose 3.5
Mason 3
Bentaleb 3
Lamela 6.5
Eriksen 4
Dembellly 6
Kane 5

Away support: 10

Dier (did well for the majority of the night and some crucial tackles) and Lamela (fantastic workrate and bagged an assist - unfortunately the workrate wasn't matched by his teammates and the pressing was useless unlike v Arsenal) were the standout players for me.

I prefer Poch's approach in that you have a team bang-in form so you start with that team, get a foothold in the game and bring fresh legs on later on.

Ultimately, we gave a good account of ourselves in a very tricky fixture. Don't really know what your problem is re: team selection.

Typical fan-hindsight. If he'd made loads of changes and we'd lost, you'd be banging the 'why change a winning team' drum.

It was a good effort last night:

Lloris - 6
Walker - 6
Dier - 7
Vertonghen - 6
Rose - 5
Lamela - 8
Mason - 6
Bentaleb - 6
Dembele - 9
Eriksen - 6
Kane - 7

Subs - Meh

A decent display but some tired mistakes costs us. It's a shame to lose because i thought we looked the better team with more control in our play, whereas they only looked dangerous when they pumped direct balls over the top for the most part.

Still, as some have said, i'd have definately taken 6 points out of the last 3 fixtures if offered prior.

As soon as you hear the words' he hasn't scored in the PL since...you just know what's going to happen.
A fixture too far and too soon for some but a spirited attempt to take the game to Liverpool at Anfield.I prefer us to go down fighting

Lloris..........6.........Well that's got the annual mistake out of the way. Good to go for Cup Final then?.
Walker........6.........Combination of quick and aggressive but that's about it for the moment.
Dier.............7.........Unaware for Balotelli's goal but otherwise pretty sound.
Verts...........7-.........Lack of pace exposed at times. OK overall.
Rose...........6........Just when you thought left back was sorted. Ibe ran him ragged.Faults to the fore last night
Mason.........6........A game too far Mauricio. Give the boy a break.
Bentaleb.....6........The spirit is willing but the legs are protesting.
Dembele.....8+......Much more businesslike. Two good performances in a row and clear MOM.
Lamela....... 7+......Lovely assist and unlucky not to score.Still running into trouble though.
Eriksen........6+......Bit isolated and lacking support. Always plays with his head.
Kane............6+......Scored of course but not the force he usually is.

Pochettino....Never change a winning team is nonsense with the number and frequency of games in the modern game. Substitions too late and irrelevant. Happy with three points from those two though.

Holy shit. Lol. Read my post(s) in this thread and on multiple occasions I said I proposed rotations on Saturday/Sunday afternoon. This isn't a kneejerk post. I got disagree ratings in the starting XI thread and disagree ratings in this thread, but in the end I'm right. That team was just too tired in some parts. You have to rotate some on these short turnarounds when you put in an effort as big physically/mentally as the players did on Saturday. It's not sustainable. I've seen it happen time and time again in every sport. We lost because some players weren't ready for this. Don't forget we only scored one real goal, that 3-2 was a bit misleading.

I proposed to switch out Rose, Dier, Mason, Bentaleb (these two in particular), and Lamela.

3 of those 5 ended up being the worst players on the pitch.

A lot of this stems from the twats they have either as pundits or co-commentators. BT in particular. Owen co-commentating with Scholes, McManaman and Owen Hargreaves at pitch side.. No surprise there is a strong Bias to the Bindippers and Manc's

It was absolutely avoidable, not leaving two men unmarked out wide for starters. Bentaleb then comes into a nothing position where he isn't needed with Rose already out there which puts us in danger of having two men taken out of the game, and then Chadli is inexcusably bad in not even bothering to bust a gut to get back in considering he has just come on the pitch.

BC you seem to have gone in to your 'we tried to press them, so everything was ok' mode...

You and me have had many conversations over the years along the lines of "why can't we just get players working and pressing the ball properly from front to back".

The last two games have been the first time I have seen a Spurs team showing 90 minutes of coherent collective commitment to that cause for two games consecutively and at that level for as long as I can remember.

So I can can kind of forgive many of the mistakes made last night, both tactically and individually. Chadli excepted as he had no excuse, as you say.

I'm also a realist, and know that with this group, this kind of performance is something I doubted I'd ever see, so I think credit is due.

No one played badly. You say you were proved right, but what evidence for that is there? As I said we played well but lost. We scored only one real goal and 3-2 was misleading? Come on fella you can't be serious anyone can do that in a game. We also could well have had a penalty for a foul on Kane. We dominated a lot of possession and even the scousers largely feel they nicked it.

There was nothing really between the sides.

Who is to say with a load of changes we'd even have been competitive in the game? Sorry but away against a tough opponent you stick your strongest XI out

Sakho: 10 for sitting on his ass 1 and a half minute of the injury time.
Phil "the tank" Dowd: 10 for adding 15 seconds to the 4 minutes of injury time where Sakho "the convict" was sitting on his ass wasting half off it.

We had a great chance at 4:15 of the injury time gone, should have been atleast 5 mins, even my Liverpool mate admited that. And he blows the whistle, what a pussy.

I fucking hate refs in the PL, every last one of them, theyre out of shape, have bad eyesight somehow, biased towards hometeams, old fucking pussies who needs to get with the times. Don't get me wrong, we do get our share of bad decisions going our way, but I hate injustice.

Get them all out, we need a new generation of refs, in my opinion just get rid of them on the pitch and go video reffing. But since that won't happen at least we can get in some proper refs. The refs should be athletes themselves, to keep up with this furious tempo. Phil Dowd is almost as fat as me! DISGRACE!
