lol you're totally obsessed with Bentaleb, BC.:D It ain't gonna happen.

Mason is our most important outfield player and had a very good game yesterday (watched it again today and watched him closely), we would not be playing most of the positive parts of our game, currently, without him. He's fantastic.

Agree with most of the other stuff though.

Listen, don't misunderstand me, I can see what Pochettino sees in Mason. Go back read what I've said about him from years ago, I'd rather he'd have been given his chance ahead of a plethora of wankers we've wasted money on and am fine with him getting a chance now. I'd rather see him out there than the likes of Dembele or Paulinho. I was pissed off helot sent out on loan instead of getting his chance sooner and checked every week to see if he was getting games at places like Lorient etc.

But Imo, Pochettino's got to find a way to make it work better. I've watched him play 4 games now, Arsenal, Southampton, ManC and Newcastle and our midfield hasn't worked brilliantly, certainly not for 90 mins, in any of those games. I think Mason is carrying some understandable good will, but for the defensive sacrifice to pay off, he's got to start producing more of substance. And by defensive, I don't mean he's scared to tackle, he's not, but he's positionally very indisciplined and as Steve said, he goes chasing the ball about. I accept these have been his first four games so, we have to be a bit patient and I appreciate that.

A couple of weeks ago I said exactly the same as @steve said above, that I'd happily give him a shot in the No.10 role when Eriksen has a couple of bad games and see how that works. That's the role he played as a kid.

Either that or, we switch formation. I would love to see us play a 433 with Mason right and Bentaleb left of Capoue.

I just think the EPL (and modern football in general) demands so much of a player in a CM2. You either need two with different but very strong complimentary skills, or two real quality all rounders.

Just can't agree with you BC, the boy has single handedly changed the way we play through the field.

It's that simple.

He's our MVP apart from Hugo.

Bring in someone with more steel to play next to him or try stambo, by all means.

I really could not disagree with you more on this.

And I do remember you hailing him and wanting him to be brought through long ago (the first I really heard about him was from one of your posts), so I don't think you're irrationally on his case, but I do think your hard-on for bentaleb is draining way too much blood from your head.:D

Our defence is a shambles, our midfield is full of pussies and our strikeforce is a joke!

Never want to watch the likes of Capoue or Adebayor in a Spurs shirt ever again...........two lazy fuckers who stroll about at their own pace with as much determination as Mario Balotelli.

We really have a squad bursting with mediocre players and the manager has his work cut out but he needs to stop making stupid decisions himself or he will find himself in deep shit a lot quicker than he can imagine.

A wee bit OTT mate.

Mason has looked decent to competent since he came in, but to say he has revolutionised the way we've played is pushing it a bit.

I agree with BC about this bit:

Personally, I don't think Capoue offers enough in Defence to partner Mason. If Mason plays (which is my preference) then I think we need someone who holds their defensive position better. Hopefully Stambouli is that player.

This season I think Rose has shut a few of us up including myself and stepped up since having a little bit of healthy competition from Ben Davies. Shame the rest of the squad didn't follow in Rose footsteps. :(

That's because he has a good mentality. The likes of Rose, Walker, Lamela etc would thrive off competition, always give 100% and strive to be the best they can. The problem is a lot of our other players like Vertonghen, Eriksen, Paulinho etc are very fragile in both the mind and the play. A lot of our players have only one zone of comfort and any match or opposition that forces them out of it makes them crumble. We have tons of talent, it's just that they are all of a similiar ilk in their presence on the field. Relaxed, indifferent.. Look at how Kaboul smiles after every pen/mistake he makes. Same goes for chiriches. Younes is supposed to be our captain yet he couldn't lead a trail of ants. It typifies our club mentality when a player like this is the best candidate for club captain, to lead our other players.

I kind of agree with you to extent but personally I think Capoue is key to Poch's system. He takes the ball from the centrebacks and quickly distributes it to the attacking full backs. Or switches play to find space. Although Stambouli might be defensively be more robust I haven't seen any evidence that he has the passing range to fulfill the role.

I think Mason needs to be more disciplined. Hopefully Poch has identified this and will work with him to rectify this because for all his neatness on the ball I feel that he weakens us without the ball.

I agree to an extent, but think Capoue doesn't offer enough protection to the defence to be the most defensive of the 2 CM's and doesn't offer enough going forward to be the most attacking. I think if we partnered Capoue with someone like Clasie, then it would work very well.

Out of the 2 I actually think Capoue needs to be more disciplined and hang back a bit (and it is more important for the team for him to do so) but agree Mason could improve a lot in this department to.

I was too angry to come on here after the match. There was nowhere on the pitch where Newcastle had a more talented or a superior player - we were stronger than they were at every position and the first half was duly a stroll, but one that should have produced more chances and thus more goals. At halftime, the general mood in the stadium was unusually relaxed and confident, waiting for the second and perhaps third goal in the second half, with no sense of threat or even much concern about the narrow margin of our lead. We were that much better.

Then Ameobi scored and immediately the whole team panicked, visibly, and started playing like 11 headless chickens. Lack of concentration having cost us a goal, the next thing that went was vision, as players stopped moving off the ball and passes started being hit at opponents. Then it was judgment that disappeared, with Kaboul (who was good in defence) repeatedly punting the ball aimlessly forward to a Newcastle player, when there were potential passes or runs available, or Lamela trying to beat three men instead of laying the ball off. Then, suddenly, we were 2-1 down and it was high time for a couple of short, sharp substitutions to add some passion and energy, so Pochettino ... did nothing.

That game was lost entirely in the mind. In terms of talent, technique and tactics, even physique, we had nothing to fear from Newcastle, but this leaderless squad has no idea what to do when it finds itself losing a football match. Everyone panics and evades taking any responsibility and on Sunday the manager just watched in an apparent state of impotence.

I was uncharacteristically furious at the final whistle and let anyone around me know it, loudly. There were nods of agreement everywhere. Collectively, it was a disgraceful, unprofessional, incompetent, mentally-weak and slipshod performance, which makes individual ratings rather pointless.

In fact, if I were to rate the players' individual performances, there would be some high scores: Mason deserves a 7 for the first half and Capoue hit some lovely passes (6.5), Rose (MotM, if one must have one) was vigorous and threatening throughout (7), Kaboul did some excellent defending (6.5), Adebayor was energetic and busy for 55 minutes and scored a good goal (6) and Eriksen did some nice stuff on and off the ball (6).

Unfortunately, we had a 20 year old central defender at right back and he got caught out twice, with no one covering for him. It's hard to justify blaming Dier (3.5), but on the other hand it's hard not to blame him, because he fucked up twice and it ended up costing us the match. But what really cost us the match was the collective lack of desire, evasion of responsibility and chaotic decision-making that followed one goal taken against the run of play at a psychologically-sensitive moment and then persisted for the rest of the match. You cannot do that in the Premiership and consider yourself to be a professional.
