So: run like maniacs to beat Everton.
Run like hell despite being 2 down against Chelsea
Have no legs for Palace

Is how it looked to me. Poch has yet to prove he can cope with 3 games in a week & this was a classic example. The fast press is tiring & a few looked out on their feet today. I guess if we'd have got a point against Everton lost at Chelsea & won handsomely today, we'd all be singing,

With the squad in a kind of weird flux due to injuries and 'injuries', the next team put out will be interesting. We've a ton of games coming up and suddenly are not overblessed with choices.

Individual additions, trying not to just repeat others.

Fazio is an absolute find.

I thought he had a great game; he literally headed everything & was composed throughout and the numbers back that up. In a young team, his solidity and experience is absolutely what we need, but whilst there are areas of defence that are settling down, the attack is still misfiring.
Credit Poch: his substitutions are smart, he knows as well as we do who isn't doing it & Lamela, Mason and Soldado can have no complaints at their replacement. I'm becoming sceptical whether Mason is gonna last out, he's been very lightweight this last week & it's still a problem position. Paulinho has to be pushing him close for the start,, even if not seemingly fancied by the coach or most of the fans!

I have my doubts about Mason but Paulinho pushing him for a start? Are you serious?

I said as much before the Chelsea game and no one agreed with me lol,.
The main problem for me today was 4231 with dier not supporting down the right and lennon not starting.

If we'd have had vlad in and lennon on from the start I think we'd have faired better and the team would have geared up more.

But vlad would also have gotten sent off. :D

Lloris 7 - Made the saves someone of his level should be making.
Dier 6 - Out of position and marking poor a little too often.
Fazio 7 - Decent game
Vertonghen 7 - Decent game
Davies 7 - Decent game defensively could have been a bit more direct going forward.
Bentaleb 6 - too many safe side ways passes.
Mason 6 - looked flat today
Lamela 4 - poor game not sure he knows what he wants to do always seems to take the hard option.
Erisken 6 - did not get on the ball enough
Kane 5 - flat needs a rest
Soldado 5 - does not do enough and misses too many half chances to be worth a place

Chadli 5 - did not do enough for someone of his size should be stronger against defenders.
Paulinho 5 - If he does not play as an attacking midfielder then I see no point.
Lennon 6 - lifted us a bit when he came on but not enough time to make a difference.

Pochettino 2 - dont think he will be successful with this group of players needs to be alot of movement over the next to windows but he should get more out of this bunch so he has been poor..

Yep, if you pull it apart and reject the widespread anti-Paulinho views, it's not that surprising.
Paulinho should be pulled apart for being such a lazy ****, IMO. Nearly every time he's come on to give us fresh legs recently, within minutes of doing so, he hasn't bothered his hole to track runners. I am sorry for the unparliamentary language, jair1970-it's nothing personal.

I think we would of faired better as well, without doubt.

But there's absolutely no doubt fatigue played a part. Kane was spent looking, Mason and Bentaleb much less influential.

You know I was at pains trying to point this out before the Chelsea game, I always feared a tired performance today if changes wern't made.

Did you??? ;)

I think we'd have gotten through it if we had the right personal on to begin with; they would have found the energy and the fans would have fuelled them as well.

Anyway, lots more games to come this month, let's get it!

More significant, for me anyway, would of been a fresher looking side who could of got closer to what we saw on Sunday - pressing the ball high up the pitch etc.

You see, this is the problem. The new dynamic is... the new dynamic; it is not the 'new dynamic' diluted by players who are not the 'new dynamic'.

Yeh get me.;)

To my mind we need to consolidate that progressive mentality with that group of players and then slowly incorporate other individuals who will become 'infected'.

It's tough though as tiredness is a factor. Not oblivious to that by any means, pinx.

He's not the Messiah, he's a very insipid boy

Here is the golden rule of football. If Tony fucking ****y headed Gale says it, then it's 24 carrot bollocks. Here's the silver rule. If the fuckwitted, we want our tottenham back, he plays on the left, WHL crowd sing it, it's almost certainly also 24 carrot bollocks.

This game presented us with the fucktardial trifecta, we had a terrible performance, Tony fucking ****y headed Gale punditing on about Aaron Lennon and the crowd singing "one fucking Aaron Lennon".

Like Aaron Lennon is Lional Messi riding in on a white charger with a face mask and a couple of shiny pistols. This is Aaron Lennon. Aaron Lennon. Aaron insipid invisible quick flick the ball to no one in case some one kicks me I can't beat anyone anymore gangsta ant Lennon. He of 5 assists and one goal in the last two seasons. He of 15 passes a game. Fuck me people, get a fucking grip. If we are holding out for Lennon to save our season we have officially reached the point of being fucked. Up the football creek without a paddle.

Lennon has one decent game in 6 months - and that was mainly without the ball - and everyone forgets the utter nothingness that has gone before, for months on end. Or even the shit game he had against Chelsea the very next game.

If he'd have started or come on sooner I wouldn't have minded, it wouldn't have been the end of the world, but it wouldn't have saved it either. If the body of his oeuvre is anything to go by. Which makes the continual drivel from Gale and the crowd singing his name all the more unbearably surreal.

Even though our last two results weren't stupendous, there had been really encouraging signs, so it was immensely disappointing to witness the turgid mess served up today.

Palace aren't a terribe team, they have a good spirit, had a great result against Liverpool a couple f weeks ago, and have the pace and enthusiasm to give teams a tough time when they've got their dander up. What's disappointing is how easily we let them rattle us. Gone was the cohesion and unity we'd shown in the last two games. Back was the laziness, incoherence, ill discipline and carelessness.

I just don't get Pochittino continuing to pick Dier at RB. It does not work with his 4231 inverted wide strategy. It is counter intuitive. We have two very promising attacking RB's in the development group. They cannot be more of a compromise than Dier as a RB. I thought Pochettino was all about the youff.

Davies isn't much better offensively, he seems very reluctant to attack. And this system really, really needs full backs to provide the wide threat.

Just don't get it.

Apart from that decision I don't have too much problem with bringing Soldado back in. I wouldn't have minded him going off at half time though. As it was I thought Pochettino's subs were really poorly thought out and made things worse not better. Lamela wasn't having a great time - who was - but we didn't need another forward and one less creative player to create for them.

The Paulinho for Mason just made things even worse, with it's tactical alterations. Terrible sub that saw the game degenerate even further, when that hadn't seemed possible.

There was no pressing, this stretched the CM's and exposed the defence. And proves that it wasn't all Capoue's fault.

There were very few positives from this game.

Individual stuff:

Lloris - Great game

Dier - It's not his fault, he's not a RB. Terrible game though.

Fazio - Actually OK amidst all the detritus around him. Go figure.

Vertonghen - Not great, not terrible that I can remember.

Davies - Defensively OK, offensively stunted.

Mason - He wasn't having a great game, but as with Capoue before him, it wasn't all his fault. Those ahead and around were not pulling their weight.

Bentaleb - Tried hard but like Mason was left exposed too much by sloppy and lazy play around him.

Lamela - Same dwelling on the ball problem a couple of times, but I don't think he should have been tugged at half time. He was doing no worse than Eriksen, Kane or Soldado. He is also always an outlet for the CM's as he never hides.

Kane - Poor game.

Eriksen - Really timid and poor first half. Improved slightly second, but needed to.

Soldado - Credit for getting into the positions but has got to be doing much better with a couple of those chances. Piss poor finishing, especially the one when put through on the right.

Poch - Really poor subs made things worse. two steps forward, one big stride backwards.

Well yes, I would agree in the main - it was just this week, three games in six days - trying to press like we were against Everton, was never doable IMO,

But yes I'd certainly agree, about consolidating the good shit we've seen,

70% of our first 30 passes were between Fazio and Vertonghen.
Actually I just made that up.
But its right in spirit if not the letter of the stats.
What it said to Crystal Palace was:
it's ok your gonna be all right.
We ain't gonna bother you too much.
We're having one of our lazy days at home.
We might have nicked it
and the cracks would have been well and truly papered over again
or more likely lost it 2-0 which is what we deserved.
But we came out and played for the last 15 minutes
like we should have done for the first 15 minutes.
The cat was under the sofa from ten minutes in.
In fact I think she's still there.
Its ok Kitty I'm calm now.

Today for me was a direct result of squad rotation, or a least the complete lack of it, over the last week. I mentioned in the team thread for the Chelsea match that Poch has to be very carful about who he picks as playing with a high press for 90 mins is incredibly draining no matter how old a player is. Poch said fatigue played a large part in the performance today and I 100% agree, it also played a massive part on Wednesday which brings me to the crux of the matter. Yes we played well against Everton, but as much as we want to keep momentum and build on that performance Poch has to realistic. By not rotating the squad enough on Wednesday he threw away our chance at getting a result in both matches. Kane, Nabil, Mason, Eriksen even Soldado when he came on all looked exhausted on Wednesday, okay playing the likes of Dembele, Benji, Chadli against Chelsea might not be ideal but they would have been fresh and could have put up a fight. If Chelsea hadn't of had a similarly compact schedule as us they could have destroyed us easily. Today was a shambles, everybody looked tired and uninterested from kick off, frankly I think its a miracle we didn't loose. The fact that Lamela, who had a poor game, was our brightest spark going forward says a lot, we looked a lot worse without him on the pitch despite the fact he gave the ball away more then usual. This result today is 100% down to Poch and his poor man management in my opinion. We have a huge squad with no stand out players so when we face a congested period of games we have to make the most of the tools at our disposal. Hopefully Poch will learn from this mess.

Nail on head. Read this Lamela knee jerkers. For the record I would not have picked him as he is struggling but to put the blame for our overall performance and result squarely at his feet is ludicrous
