I think some of them did okay, Fazio and Vertonghen were our best players.

Paulinho is done in my book, I think I've been patient enough and apart from 45 minutes against Stoke he has been bad/mediocre at best.

Lennon, isn't good enough anymore. He does NOTHING.

Townsend, Kane and Davies also had a bad game.
Paulinho was good in the first half

Watched the first 25 minutes and then the final 15 because of 5 a-side footie. Bloody glad I missed the middle part.

For us folk who have no access to these games can someone go into more detail? I am very interested to hear why Davies was so poor... not just read ratings and small snippets of how good or how shit they were.

Lenton covered naughtons ass on several occasions

To say he done nothing is just stupid

This is coming from someone who doesn't like him, as he doesn't offer anything in the final third.

But he did put a shift in

he wasn't massively poor, just got done a few times and never really offered anything going forwards either, a 5/10 performance(although if it was rose then it'd be a negative 12).

Townsend - 6.5 - I thought this was the best display from Townsend since before his injury - he was our best attacking player in the first half, despite being fortunate to avoid a couple of yellow cards. He usually passed instead of running into dead ends and he troubled their fullback enough for him to be substituted. Taken off by Pochettino at the right moment.

Yes, that is how I saw it. Astonishing how many people are slating Townsend. I swear it is just force of habit.

I'm on holiday in Spain and as we were walking to the restaurant we passed an Irish pub that had the match on. I stood there for two minutes watching Paulinho Get the ball with a ton of space, but still managed to lose the ball when a player came from behind his back... Then Townsend player an awful pass which Lead to a counter-attack... "Move along.." I thought, and went for a steak... (Did pop back every 5 mins to check the score of course)

Tough little gig.

Great but hostile atmosphere, tricky little team, diabolical pitch, homer ref and an almost total reserve outfield made this a very difficult night. Despite the aforementioned problems, we put in a solid display that was much better first half than second but remained solid throughout.

One of those nights where collectively we were competent, but amongst that collective decentness was some really woeful individuality. Davies and Kane were absolutely shockingly awful.

Kane is a trier, and he's not without some ability but there are days like today when he looks so bad it's unreal. His touch was terrible, every time he had the ball in good areas he just walked straight into defenders or other equally inanely stupid things. The camera pans onto his face and the expression is very much one of "no-one's home".

Davies had a torrid game. Going forward he looks incredibly reluctant but you'd hope the pay off would be defensive solidity, but tonight he was really poor defensively. Continually in the wrong place, making the wrong challenge or timing things badly.

Lennon doesn't actually engage the opposition physically very often at all, most of the time he jockeys, or shadows in a very non confrontational way. Which is one level above pointless. He is even more of a coward with the ball. You can't give it too him with an opponent too near because he'll just try one of those stupid "ooh ooh ooh man up my arse, the balls a hot potato" flicks that cede possession. Or if he does get on it he'll invariably take the safe choice and rarely does anything incisive. So disappointed we offed Pritchard. Kid might not be the real deal eventually but I'd so much rather be learning what Pritchard is about than watching a player we all know isn't about much of consequence.

Townsend just drives you fucking nuts. The definitive headless chicken. Such a shame because the boy shows glimpses of some inert talent, but it's buried well and truly under a bushel of lobotomised grey matter. He did one little burst that took him past two men, then played the right pass to Paulinho in space. Great. But that was it. He's got to make these kind of contributions several times a game to justify the compromises he brings defensively. Everything else he did was agonisingly poor. Poor decisions, as ever, often a really bad first touch and of course the waste of the odd good position through not getting his head up.

Paulinho was also very disappointing, played through the centre in the advanced position in a game where room was very tight where he was operating, but he really didn't do enough. I'd have left him on rather than Kane because as "meh" as he was he was more involved than Kane and unlike Kane, didn't look like he was wearing his legs on backwards. But it was a tough call.

Four players came out of this with some credit. Vertonghen was very decent on a tough night, Fazio bar one blip was equally sturdy looking. Both looked good together. Stambouli put himself about and was very sturdy and dependable. Bentaleb edged MOTM for me, saw more ball than anyone on the pitch bar Fazio (by one pass) and was the most composed footballer out there. First half better than second half, but still never hid, kept looking for the ball and tried to make things happen. You could see him get the ball, sometimes spin and drop a marker and get his head up, desperately pleading for an option, unfortunately the movement ahead of him from Lennon, Townsend & Kane showed the alacrity and wit of zombies on smack.

Collectively was where some of the positives came. We showed clear signs of some organisational capabilities of the coach. Without the ball people were generally diligent and quite zippy, even Townsend put in some off the ball tracking. Miraculous. There is still a fuck load of work to be done, and it shows. The pressing from the front was hit and miss, and the cohesiveness was also a bit hit and miss, a couple of times I noticed the forwards pressing in unison but Bentaleb, Stambouli or the fb's hadn't pushed up to provide the next wave cover.

Overall though, we didn't allow too many clear chances and considering that was an almost total reserve side, a dire pitch, bar a 15 min phase in the second half, it wasn't a terrible away performance in Europe.

Individual

Lloris - Decent when called on

Naughton - OK. No more no less.

Fazio - One blip, otherwise very sound.

Vertonghen - Very good game. Defensively good, and played some decent football at times too.

Davies - Awful night.

Stambouli - Put himself about, showed a couple of nice touches, took a couple of nasty hits.

Bentaleb - Quietly goes about his job of keeping the ball recycling. Liked that he dropped a shoulder a few times and shook a marker off. Still needs to work harder on tracking his man off the ball.

Townsend - The usual Townsend gamut. Some chutzpah, a soupçon of something good, lots of headless meandering and frustration.

Paulinho - Very, very meh.

Lennon - The gangsta ant just doesn't fool me.

Kane - An uncooperative pair of pins and an out to lunch expression. A worrying combo.

Lamela - Looked lively for 10 minutes, then seemed to get lost in the intellectual vacuum that was the Lennon, Kane Axis.

Hostile crowd, terrible pitch, surprisingly meh opposition, a long way from home. Terrible game but a point is a point.

Lloris...........6.....Did very little very well.Even annoyed Mauricio with his kicking.
Naughton....6.....His reputation precedes him They steered clear of our right hand side.
Fazio...........7+..Sound and forceful. Very positive with his plays.
Verts...........7+..Quiet and reliable performance. Partnership bodes well.
Davies.........5.....Decidedly dodgy at times. Rose can rest easy.
Bentaleb......6.....Tried and kept going. Decent show.
Paulinho.......5.....Briefly thought about showing his talents but decided not to.
Lennon........5.....Play him on the right wing or nowhere. Usual shift but little impact.
Townsend....6.....Started well but disappeared up his own fundament eventually.
Kane............5.... Early shot promised much but was very misleading. Not a lone front man.

Lamela.........6+..Things livened up once he was on but too little too late.

Lloris did what he needed to do, all routine stuff barring one great save when the linesman had flagged offside already.

Naughton was relatively steady in defence, missing in attack.

Fazio, barring one crazily misjudged/ mistimed jump, looked both assured and imposing, while also able on the ball.

Vertonghen dealt with everything well and brought the ball out in style too.

Davies was pretty poor, looked slow and was caught out of position more than once. Improved as the game wore on though and played a couple of lovely passes.

Stambouli looks impressive. Two footed, driven, clever in the tackle, I like him.

Bentaleb gave his usual display of many touches but little taking of responsibility. With Capoue and Dembele both seemingly playing well, and Stambouli making a promising start, he may find game time limited unless he starts imposing himself more.

Lennon worked hard and covered well, made a couple of decent time but failed to create anything of note. He does seem like he's lost a bit of pace.

Paulinho had a couple of nice touches but barely got involved and didn't look like a guy trying to work his way back in.

Townsend was our brightest attacker, a lot of ambition with the ball and some very nice skilful moments, but no end product either.

Kane had as poor a game as I've seen him have. Started with a great shot but afterwards everything he tried was clumsy. Can't understand why he didn't attack the Soldado cross.

Lamela injected some creativity and unpredictability to our play but he's not a the 'carry the team' stage just yet.

Soldado started brightly but just couldn't get into the game.

Capoue brought a bit of composure and control back after we began to lose the midfield.

All in all I'm okay with tonight. Some decent ideas, even if our play wasn't too coherent, and most of them worked hard and pressed. A draw was fair, and it was a difficult game against a decent side.

Yeah saw it very similar to that BC.

Was thinking exactly that about Kane. I like him, but tonight it was like he was trying to walk into the first defender he could!

Like you say though, terrible pitch and all things considered its a decent point.
